Top five worst dressed celebrities at the 2011 Golden Globe awards

By Andrea Petrou on January 5th, 2012

We heart January over here at ShinyStyle.

The Christmas party season is over, the sales are on and spring fashion colours are peeping through on the highstreet. However, the best thing about this month is of course the Golden Globe awards, which are guaranteed to bring out some of the best and worst dressed stars in Hollywood.

There’s only ten days left until we get to see all of this year’s red carpet style but to celebrate the huge event we’ve decided to take a look back at some of 2011′s fashion disasters.

Making the list is Leighton Meester who opted for a Burberry frock that couldn’t decide which trend it wanted to channel. Then there’s Helena Bonham Carter – don’t shoot us – whose glasses mixed with an over patterned frock made her look more silly than stylish.

And let’s not forget Halle Berry and January Jones who both showed us why it’s sometimes best to cover up at such events. Less is sometimes not more ladies.

See the gallery below for our top five worst dressed.

Helena Bonham Carter was “amazed” she was paid to become the latest face of Marc Jacobs

By Andrea Petrou on July 4th, 2011

Helena Bonham Carter was “amazed” she was paid to become the latest face of Marc Jacobs.

The ‘King’s Speech’ actress appears in a new campaign for the designer and while she never got to meet him while doing the ads – which were shot by photographer Juergen Teller – she says it was a dream come true.

Helena – who is famed for her eccentric dress sense – told Elle.com: “I’ve never met Marc, but I’ve always admired his clothes. And he just said, ‘Would I be interested?’

“Also just go with it and wear whatever I wanted, if I wanted to wear shoes that were different colours. In fact there were strict instructions, ‘Please make sure she wears shoes that were different colours.’ It came out like that.

“I just had a great day, I was amazed I was paid to do it. Frankly, I had a great day’s fun of dressing up and playing around with Juergen. He’s the least controlled, the least affected.”

Helena, 45, also spoke about her unique sense of style, admitting it’s not to everyone’s taste.

She said: “My instinct anyway, unfortunately, as some people can tell, is to dress up. I do like dressing up, and I feel like you’re channelling different people. They might be very unfortunate creations or sometimes more fortunate.”

Top ten red carpet awards dresses for 2011: Oscars, Baftas, Grammys and Golden Globes

By Andrea Petrou on April 19th, 2011

It may not be the end of the year, or in anticipation for the next awards event, but let’s be honest, we really don’t need an excuse to put together a list of red carpet award dresses.
This year an abundance of A-listers have turned up to celebrate key red carpet award events including the BAFTAs, Oscars, Golden Globes and of course the Grammys. Each have chosen a frock, which they hope sets them apart from the rest, and while many did that, there, in our eyes can only be a top ten.
First up in our top ten is Angelina Jolie who looked stunning in a green sleeved Versace  dress at the Golden Globes. Also sporting a best dress at this event was Christina Hendricks who showed off those enviable curves in a red frock.
Over at the Oscars, we had three ladies who really wowed. First up was Michelle Williams who went for a white dress with on trend beading and capped sleeves. She’s followed here by Helena Bonham Carter for her sheer eccentric black outfit, which she teamed up with glasses. Also at this awards event is the lovely Natalie Portman who showed off her baby bump in a cute scoop neck purple frock.
Rihanna’s white and sheer Jean Paul Gaultier frock at the Grammys also gets a mention, while Jessie J’s BRIT playsuit also comes in top here.

Emma Watson’s one shoulder lace frock at the BAFTAs gets in too as does Amy Adam’s  gold strappy number.

Helena Bonham Carter dresses for herself.

By Andrea Petrou on April 1st, 2011

Helena Bonham Carter dresses for herself.

The ‘King’s Speech’ actress is famed for her eccentric fashion sense but says she doesn’t worry what people think as she hates dressing the same as everybody else.

She said: “I’ve always been happy to wear things I like and not follow what’s in fashion. I just thought I never look good in what everybody else wore.

So there’s no point trying. You just have to do what suits you, and it doesn’t matter if you don’t look like everybody else. Be you. That’s our gift and we’ve got to celebrate that, but it does take ages. I was wracked with self-doubt for years. I get spasms of it even now – I’m not indelibly self-confident.”

Helena also revealed how she never wants to get too skinny because she thinks it will age her.

The 44-year-old star told Stylist magazine: “I love food. Elizabeth Taylor once said you have to choose between the body and the face at some point and I think she was right. I did diet when I was younger but now I just eat. I don’t overeat though. I’m rounder but I think it does help the face.”

Helena Bonham Carter is a fashion “genius”

By Andrea Petrou on March 23rd, 2011

Helena Bonham Carter is a fashion “genius”.

The ‘King’s Speech’ star is famous for her eccentric dress sense including famously wearing one red and one green shoe to this year’s Golden Globe Awards but Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman loves her style.

She says Helena is “a genius who made my [Golden Globes] evening so much fun. And why not wear two different colored shoes?”

Georgina founded her eveningwear label in 2004 with co-creator Keren Craig and despite their success- with A-List celebrities frequently spotted wearing Marchesa – she admitted it was a struggle at first.

Georgina said: “Sure, there was Valentino and Versace, but there weren’t a lot of young brands out there doing eveningwear. People thought we were crazy. They said no one does evening anymore, which only encouraged us to do it more.”

The British designer has been married to Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein since 2004 but Georgina admitted they attend award ceremonies hoping for very different outcomes.

She told US Harper’s Bazaar: “Harvey will be at an awards show, worried if an actor in his film is going to win, and I’m thinking, How does her dress look? We’ll both be biting our nails. And sometimes his doesn’t win, but if I see my dress up at the podium, I’m clapping and screaming, ‘I won! I won!’”
