More pieces from Isaac Mizrahi’s first collection for Liz Claiborne are now available on the company’s Web site, some even for purchase. More looks are slated to go up on the site February 15. So far we think Issac’s doing his job, creating more modern clothes with more stylish silhouettes that still won’t scare our Moms when they walk into Macy’s. The strapless dress is definitely the one we’ll see bridge the gap and pull in a younger shopper. What do you think so far?

New York Fashion Week Spring 09 Trendwatch: Just peachy!

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 10th, 2008

nyfashweek_trend_peach.jpg

While we’re running around New York, the team at Catwalk Queen has more time for analyzing. (Guess we’ll have to return the favor during London Fash Week!) Gemma Cartwright writes…

We’re only a few days into New York Fashion Week, and already obvious trends are emerging. Most of these surround colour, which is no surprise considering trend predictors have been tipping folk off for months about what hues will be making waves in the future.

In New York, everything is (in the words of Betty Rizzo) “peachy keen, jellybean”. At almost every show so far, we’ve seen shades of peach or soft coral in every fabric from suede to chiffon…

Bargain Pick of the Week: Isaac Mizrahi for Target taffeta couture bodice dress

By Andrea Thatcher on January 17th, 2008

In honor of Isaac Mizrahi’s big news, we decided to peruse his short-lived collection for Target for our bargain pick of the week.

Even though calling everything and anything coutore is sort of a pet peeve of ours, we still really liked this taffeta couture bodice dress in bing cherry for only $49.99. It comes in lots of other colors, including basic black, if you like the cut but not the hue.

The Audrey Hepburn silhouette will obviously look lovely on the slim, but the waist is also high enough to camouflage heftier hips.

Will Macy’s be the new Target? Department store excited about Isaac Mizrahi’s move to Liz Claiborne

By Andrea Thatcher on January 17th, 2008

We’re slowly getting over our crushing disappointment that this will be the last year to find Isaac Mizrahi designs at Target, since Catwalk Queen yesterday reported his defection to the Liz Claiborne brand. We’re going the hopeful route and exploring the possibility of wearing Liz Claiborne before we turn 40.

This is just the attitude that’s getting Macy’s chief executive Terry J. Lundgren cautiously excited. “It’s a good step — I am encouraged by this move,” Lundgren told WWD. “Obviously the answer will come in the product itself and the response to the product. I’m hopeful Isaac will bring some freshness to the product.”

The brand has been struggling for years and losing ground in department stores like Macy’s. But if Mizrahi really can refresh the brand, perhaps it will earn back more floor space, its old customers, and some new.

One thing to look forward to in 2008? Isaac Mizrahi returns to TV, sort of…

If, like me, you’ve watched the same 10 or so reruns of Isaac Mizrahi’s short-lived talk show on the Style network over and over, you’ll be happy to know that new segments of Isaac’s entertaining and witty style advice are coming your way. On Feb. 1 Isaac is launching his own internet TV show on WatchIsaac.com. There are already a few clips up of Isaac telling you why to watch and what he’ll be featuring.

Fashion stars like Isaac Mizrahi, Stuart Weitzman and Jeffrey Kalinsky celebrate Hannukah

By Andrea Thatcher on December 6th, 2007

Fashion headliners shared with WWD how they’re celebrating Hanukkah this year, and it’s no surprise a lot of plans have to do with shopping!

Isaac Mizrahi created a Hanukkah dog line for Target, just in time to gift items to his boyfriend’s Jack Russell-Beagle mix.

Stuart Weitzman is on the receiving end of the gifting, his wife searches for fabulous antique shoes – some designed by Weitzman’s father – to give him for Hanukkah.

And Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey New York is so pleased that his parents have taken to shopping for designer items, he’s going to gift those items to them this year. If you’re interested in gifting the platinum and diamond Star of David pendant at left, it’s available at Tiffany’s for $1,950.
