Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld team up to create charity t-shirts for Japan.

By Andrea Petrou on May 24th, 2011

Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld have teamed up to create charity t-shirts for Japan.

The eccentric pop star and the Chanel designer are among a host of celebrities who have collaborated with Uniqlo and Conde Nast Japan to design 10 t-shirts with profits going to the Japanese Red Cross, which is working to alleviate the impact of the earthquake and tsunami on the country in March.

Other stars who have gotten involved include Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Alber Elbaz, Cyndi Lauper and Victoria Beckham.

Blake Lively – who was recently named the face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle handbag range – and Uniqlo brand representatives Charlize Theron and Orlando Bloom have also designed t-shirts for the initiative.

The creations will go on sale on June 25 with Uniqlo expecting to donate profits of $1.2 million to the fund.

This is not the first time Uniqlo has donated to the Japan cause, Tadashi Yanai, chairman and chief executive officer of Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., has personally donated $12 million, with the retailer also sending $8.5 million in clothes and $3.6 million in funds immediately after the disaster.

Petra Nemcova’s “heart was broken” by footage of the tsunami in Japan.

By Andrea Petrou on March 15th, 2011

Petra Nemcova’s “heart was broken” by footage of the tsunami in Japan.

The supermodel – who survived the Indian Ocean disaster which struck Thailand in 2004 and killed her then-fiance photographer Simon Atlee – spoke of her grief at replaying the memories of her own personal tragedy as the same event unfolded last week.

She said: “To see them [the video and pictures] on Friday (11.03.11) morning was horrifying. My heart was broken.

“My love was going to everyone in Japan. It is something so hard to imagine without going through. When a natural disaster happens it’s amazing to see the unconditional love coming from every direction.”

The 31-year-old beauty – who used to date James Blunt and is now engaged to British actor Jamie Belman – also opened up about her own fight for life, recounting the day she held on to a tree as Simon was swept away.

She explained on Good Morning America: “You feel powerless, the more you fight, the more you lose energy and the chance for survival.

“The best thing you can do is try to stay calm. That can save your life.”

The star will take part in the 12th series of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ alongside Kendra Wilkinson, Kirstie Alley and former boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard.

ShinyStyle Watch: Lady Gaga in Tokyo

By Andrea Petrou on May 20th, 2010

We hated (ok that might be a bit strong) Lady Gaga when she defaced her Hermes bag with Japanese characters on the first day of her Japan tour.

However, we’re over that now, especially since we’ve heard that it was the handiwork of performance artist Terence Koh who has contibuted vocaly to Ms G’s songs.

We know this, because our friends over Grazia have just been watching ‘Gagakoh!’ the film put together by MAC, who sponsored Lady G’s Viva Glam gigs in Tokyo last month. And we’ve also managed to get hold of it for you to see!

Sit back and watch Miss G in her finest hour with very little attire and tell us what you think.

Lady Gaga defaces Birkin bag to show Japanese fans how much she loves them

By Andrea Petrou on April 14th, 2010

Lady Gaga Arrives In Japan

If you have a love of designer handbags and are one of those girls who would sacrifice their right arm than see their bag rest on the floor or get dirty, then you may want to stop reading now.

We love Lady Gaga but we’re shocked at what she’s done to her Birkin bag on the leg of her Monster’s Ball tour in Japan. The singer was snapped walking through the airport carrying a bright white Birkin with the message ‘I love Little Monster, Tokyo love’ scribbled across it in Japanese Katakana characters.

Little Monsters, in case you were wondering, is the term she uses for her hundreds of fans.
And yes, we’re still one of those, but next time Ms G maybe you can use wipe off ink?

Zooey Deschanel and Solange Knowles sign up as Rimmel models

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2010

First it bagged Kate Moss to front campaigns, then Lily Cole and Georgia May Jagger, but it doesn’t seem Rimmel will be stopping the celebrity campaign front anytime soon.

The British make-up brand has just announced that at kooky actress Zooey Deschanel, Solange Knowles and model Alejandra Ramos will be joining the Rimmel clan to front campaigns and be Rimmel spokeswomen.

The move comes as the brand attempts to conquer China, Japan, India and Latin America.

Coty president, Renato Semerar, said: “At a time of extraordinary worldwide growth for the brand, these three strong, successful and uniquely beautiful women will help ensure that Rimmel London’s image continues to be modern and globally relevant.”

We can’t wait to see the campaigns.

By Andrea Thatcher on November 8th, 2007

Cate%20Blanchett_tokyo.jpgExpecting mother Cate Blanchett looks lovely in a sparkling black lace tiered gown at the lighting ceremony Tuesday in Tokyo, Japan of the new Giorgio Armani flagship store. Doesn’t it seem like just about every celebrity’s pregnant these days? And Cate Blanchett certainly does seem to have that special glow about her. She’s pictured with Giorgio Armani himself, who seems very proud of himself and a little short next to Cate. Armani Tower, located in the central shopping area of Tokyo, is 11-stories high with 2 basement floors, and provides its own brands as well as a spa and cafes.

Paris Hilton and Nicky Hilton announce launch of Samantha Thavasa Christmas collection in Tokyo

By Andrea Thatcher on November 5th, 2007

Paris%20and%20Nicky%20Hilton_tokyo.jpgParis Hilton and Nicky Hilton attended a press party today at Club XROSS in Tokyo, Japan to announce the launch of the new Samantha ThavasaChristmas collection. The Hilton Sisters have been promotion models of the company for the past five years and are visiting Japan again for the first time in two years. I’m glad that they are using both sisters instead of just the bigger celebrity Paris. I like Nicky’s style much better–she looks so much more classy and sophisticated. And her collection that debuted during L.A. Fashion Week was really well done–I hope her career takes off and she doesn’t gain the same reputation as her sister. Although I do like Paris’ sequin dress, paired with the striped tights is too much–just let the dress speak for itself. What do you think?
