It’s time to sort out that make-up bag and make way for the next must-have makeup trends. With SS 2012 nearly upon us those winter beauty hues are being placed in the bargain bins to make room for the latest colours.
One trend that made a huge impact on the catwalks for the next season was red lips. Vixen reds, dark berries and orange tints are pushing out those gothic red lips of AW 2011 with Anna Sui, YSL and Erdem all leading the way.
Go for the classic Hollywood red lips as seen at Jason WU or go for a dark shade as shown off at Donna Karan. Pale skinned beauties will look great wearing a red lippy with an orange tint, while the matt look shown off at Erdem is great for darker skin types.
See the gallery below for all the designer hues hot next season.

Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2012
As we all know by now, Jason Wu’s runway show is always an absolute highlight for me when NYFW rolls around again. I love his cool, nonchalant approach to fashion, which is perfect for city-slickers and sleek fashion-lovers everywhere. Those people won’t be disappointed with his new Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
Like his previous collection, this collection featured heavily on contrasting shapes and silhouettes as the young designer paired form-fitting, almost Oriental structured blouses and shorts with billowing, slouchy coats for an edgy take on city dressing. Again, much like last season, Wu used the blouse as a staple in his work with an array of crisp white shirts with gem-encrusted collars. Workwear just got taken up a notch.
As for colour, the collection was a pretty myriad of soft peach-pinks with dark blue and grey prints which played off well against each other. I’ve got serious designer lust for his high-waisted, uber-sexy 50s style bikini in a dark grey and blue Eastern floral print – it manages to give a cheeky wink to pin-up girls of the past while still remaining a modern classic.

Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 2011
And so the Fashion Week fun begins, girls and boys, as one of our favourite fashion months of the year starts off in New York today. I don’t know about you but I’ve been waiting for the NYFW mania to begin for a while now – and while I wait with baited breath to see what the USA’s finest will come up with this season, I’m taking a look at one of the Big Apple’s best designers: Jason Wu.
Wu, who has a large celebrity following including Michelle Obama and Diane Kruger, is one of my favourite Manhattan-based designers because he simply knows how to make a girl look good. His collections may not have the over-the-top couture drama of iconic designers such as Dior and Gaultier, but they are something far more important – truly stylish, wearable designs for real women. When I imagine who Wu, in his mind, designs for it is not a madcap Isabella Blow character but the average fashion-savvy woman on the street.
His last two collections or so are particularly special to me because to me, they show that Wu has really hit his stride now as a designer and found a trademark in elegant tailoring and cocktail dresses. My dream Jason Wu piece? The slate-grey men’s coat from his Autumn/Winter 2011 collection (pictured above in the gallery) with the black lace sleeve details. Such a modern take on masculine fashion.
Take a look at my favourite Jason Wu moments in the gallery above – and keep checking back on the site for NYFW updates.

Jason Wu’s new A/W 2011-12 collection just reminded me of why exactly he’s one of my favourite designers. In short, it was the kind of collection that dreams are made of. Built up mainly out of beautifully structured basics, and elaborated upon with prints, embellishment and Miu Miu-esque bows, the collection managed to encompass both the chic spirit of European fashion and the high-octane power and edginess of New York fashion.
As soon as the first look came down the runway, it was obvious that Wu had knocked it right out of the park yet again; the model appeared in the perfect pair of low-slung tailored trousers and tuxedo jacket, a sweet monochrome print on the shirt beneath. With an industrial grey lace-trimmed coat slung casually over the model’s shoulders, and a black silk bow tied at the shirt collar, this was girlish androgyny at its best. What followed after this first flawlessly put-together look was a long stream of perfect separates which we predict will become wardrobe staples – sharply high-necked, stiff-collared printed shirts, neat A-line skirts, bows at the collar and high-waisted dress pants. One of our absolute favourites out of his more casual looks was the leather A-line skirt/high-necked lace blouse combination, which, teamed with a vintage-esque monochrome handbag and red metallic heels was a knockout. ASOS, if you’re reading – please, please, please copy these pieces ASAP.
When it came to formalwear in Wu’s 2011-12 collection, lace, feathers and lavish embellishment were all key themes. With simple tailored skirts, jackets and blazers all adorned in the same extravagant costume jewellery detail on the hemlines and shoulders, Wu has basically single-handedly reinvented tailored dressing for women. Like many other designers this season, he favoured lace in both casual and formalwear – lace trims running up the sides of sleeves and legs were seen everywhere in this collection, bringing each look together smoothly and cohesively.
So basically, we absolutely adore this A/W collection from Jason Wu. To check out highlights from his NY Fashion Week show, check out the gallery above.

The nominees of this year’s CFDA Awards have shown off their designs in the latest CFDA Journal. Instead of using models, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang and the rest of the nominees have modelled their own creations as part of Diane von Furstenberg’s push to celebrate their work. I particularly like Marc sporting a pair of rabbit ears he designed for Louis Vuitton, and which have been made famous by Madonna at this year’s Met Gala.

Here it is folks! The much-anticipated March ’09 Vogue cover starring Michelle Obama. It seems it was accidentally posted on WSJ’s fashion blog ahead of its launch tomorrow, and quickly picked up by Jezebel for our viewing pleasure (thanks peeps!). Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, there has been plenty of chatter already on forums about the portrait and of course the choice of outfit – a sleeveless fuchsia dress by Jason Wu.

Yesterday, designers Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo – two folks who have become household names overnight – appeared on the Today show to talk Michelle Obama. At one end of the spectrum we have Wu, who at 26-year-old designed the ivory one-shoulder gown that the new First Lady wore at the inaugural ball. While on the other hand, we have 48-year-old Cuban-born Toledo, who has 25 years of experience behind her, and whose lemongrass sparkly suit was also selected by Mrs Obama to wear to the swearing-in ceremony. Hear what their reactions were to seeing their creations be part of history, by clicking the video above.

The fashion community was expecting a lot of things from Michelle Obama, but an ethereal ivory gown wasn’t one of them! Talk of jewel tones was rampant, speculation about a halter neckline, premonitions that it would be something sleek and chic all swirled around the media.
But no, Obama suprised them all, including the designer, with her one-shouldered Jason Wu dress. The ivory silk chiffon confection was embroidered with silver thread and embellished with organza and Swarovski crystals.

The CFDA is quite proud of the variety in its Fashion Fund finalists this year – with good reason. A green designer (John Patrick of Organic, natch), a milliner (Albertus Quartus – whose design for Proenza Schouler Fall 2007 is shown) and a jewelry designer (Irene Neuwirth) are all included on the short list for the prize.
While the CFDA also touts that two of its finalists are non-New Yorkers, we could only find a few designers who were born or started out in California, none who were based there now.
