Designer spotlight: Jeremy Scott

I’m in kind of a silly mood today so I’m going to take a look back at the works of one of fashion’s more out-there designers: Jeremy Scott, a label which combines a glorious blend of grotesque cartoon imagery with horror references and splashes of zinging colour. If you’re a fellow lover of kitschy bad taste like I am then J-Scott is probably a designer that’d be right up your alley.

I love Jeremy Scott’s designs because they’re a big, glittery scream-in-your-face departure from the austerity and seriousness of Fashion Week. The likes of Chanel, Versace, Dior and co will always be special and inspirational to me, but Jeremy Scott’s collections are somewhere between a cheesy 80s horror movie and an episode of The Flintstones, and I’m afraid that when my good and bad tastes do battle, the bad tastes always win. I know that I’m not alone in this – Katy Perry and Rihanna love him too.

In the gallery above are some early examples of Jeremy Scott’s work along with his more recent, ridiculous collections featuring the likes of Pixie Geldof on the catwalk. Check out our favourite Jez moments and let us know whether you’re a lover of his work or a hater.

NYFW Hightlights: Jeremy Scott

By Andrea Petrou on September 16th, 2010

Jeremy Scott decided to ignore the classic looks displayed by many designers at NYFW, sending his models down in 80s chic.

Kanye West, Solange Knowles and Kelly Osbourne watched from the front row as models made up like clones of a young Marilyn Monroe,  took on Debbie Harry fashion with printed 80s tees (we’re sure Vivienne Westwood and Henry Holland would approve), PVC skirts and bustier dresses.

Others strutted down the runway in (fake) prosciutto dresses (take note, Lady Gaga), garbage bag dresses and even a straitjacket wedding dress…. well some people say you do have to be mad to get wed….

NYFW celebrities at the front row: Alexa Chung and Kelly Osbourne

By Andrea Petrou on September 16th, 2010

We’ve been giving you all the fashion fun from the New York Fashion Week catwalk, and today that’s set to continue but before we step back onto the catwalk we thought we’d give you a rundown of more celebrities who have been gracing the front row.

Alexa Chung once again made an appearance, this time for the Philip Lim  show in a black dress over a flowing cream top. Coco Rocha also opted for a black frock at the same show, which she accessorised with orange lippy (what do we think ladies, like or loathe?)

Kelly Osbourne went for a glam look in a black bustier dress teamed up with blue heels for the Jeremy Scott show and Beyonce’s sister Solange went for a jewelled jumper for the same event.

Unsurprisingly Kelly Rowland went for the double denim look for G-Star Raw, which we predict was from the label, and Denise Richards worked the Capri pants and cardi look at the Pamella Roland show.

See all the star style below.
