Kate Moss launches her first jewellery collection at Paris Fashion Week.

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2011

Kate Moss has launched her first jewellery collection at Paris Fashion Week.

The British supermodel – who has already collaborated with High Street store Topshop and French label Longchamp to create fashion and handbag lines – celebrated the debut of Kate Moss for Fred at the iconic Ritz Hotel with shoe designer Christian Louboutin accompanying her as her date.

According to WWD, the 22-piece collection features necklaces, rings and earrings based on the model’s tattoos and an anchor, a star and a crescent moon feature among the designs.

Sold online and through luxury department store Harrods in the UK, the line ranges in price from £400 and £40,000.

Meanwhile, Kate made her return to the Parisian catwalk earlier today (04.10.11) when she closed the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2012 show – headed up by designer Marc Jacobs, a close friend of the star – wearing a white laser-cut feathered mini-dress.

The likes of Nicole Richie, Uma Thurman and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour turned out to see Kate walk the runway for Louis Vuitton for the first time since she caused a stir at the autumn/winter 2011 show by smoking a cigarette while walking down the catwalk wearing tiny leather hotpants.

Zandra Rhodes would never go out without accessories

By emilyborrett on August 22nd, 2011

The bonkers designer Zandra Rhodes, who is currently working on a new accessories range with Adele Marie, says that she could never be without jewellery or accessories. We know you couldn’t, Zandra, we’ve seen you!

Zandra’s new collection was designed in accordance with her own personal love for trinkets and beads. She said: “Firstly, I never go out without jewellery, ever! When I saw what Adele Marie did I knew that this was jewellery that I could be wearing. As a designer you have to want to wear what you are putting out. I like to get away and take inspiration from the kind of things I want to be wearing. With collaborations it’s different – we merge our ideas and visions together.”

Mama Rhodes’ new collection, basically, is for women like her who aren’t too scared to make a few brave choices about their look.

She told Marie Claire: “It’s for women who just want to wear a unique piece of jewellery. They’re very strong pieces, which emulate me. It’s not shy jewellery; it’s for women who want to make a statement.”

Fashion wishlist: ShinyStyle’s dream buys for the week

By emilyborrett on August 18th, 2011

Black Chelsea Girl Peter Pan Jumper

It's all about quirky knitwear this season thanks to Givenchy. We love this quirky knitted jumper from River Island which will look great layered over a midi dress with costume jewellery.

It’s time for a round-up of Shiny’s dream buys for the week! I’m starting my fashion illustration degree in September and I’ve got serious fashion nerves at the moment; whenever I look at my wardrobe I feel like I’ve got nothing to wear (which is definitely not true, but sadly this is the way a compulsive shopper’s mind works).

So I’ve been scouring the high-street sites for the past couple of weeks mentally compiling a shopping list that I thought I’d share with you- this week I’m inspired by the “eccentric granny chic” look that Givenchy brought to the catwalk, which means quirky jumpers, layerable midi dresses, lavish costume jewellery and clashing prints. Basically, a look that is really fun to put together.

My ultimate star buy of the week is Topshop’s faux fur leopard-print coat, which is oh-so-sixties and will look amazing with a plain tunic dress and opaque tights. Check out the gallery for this week’s top picks from the high street.

Kate Hudson’s new jewellery line reflects her personality

By emilyborrett on August 15th, 2011

Kate Hudson’s new jewellery line is said to reflect the actress’ light, carefree personality.

The blonde surfer-girl actress, who is famed for her hippyish bohemian style, has collaborated with her friend Laurie Lee Stark to create the new line “CK+KH”, which specialises in jewellery charms and accessories.

Laurie told Elle magazine: “We use a lot of aquamarines because Kate loves them. But to me they also evoke her personality. She’s so open and light.”

The design duo also have Kate’s famous mother, Goldie Hawn, to thank, as Kate has admitted her iconic mother inspired her own tastes. She confessed that her love for jewellery was sparked as a child when she saw Goldie wearing a particular choker necklace.

Kate said: “It was one of the first pieces I ever remember my mother wearing, and it was like, ‘Wow, I hope one day I get to wear jewellery like that’.”

Hot jewellery trend: Ghetto-style statement earrings

80s girl-rap group Salt-N-Pepa are our jewellery icons this season - it's all gotta be gold, tacky and huge

Picture 1 of 9
Picture 1 of 9

If you have a soft spot for cheesy, tacky 80s and 90s fashion, which thanks to the likes of Ungaro and Henry Holland is now acceptable to admit to liking (any still from the Fresh Prince could easily be part of a lookbook now) then you’ll be all “OMG” over the upcoming jewellery trend, which is all about tackiness and over-the-top bling a la Salt-N-Pepa. S-s-s-s-s-Salt and Pepa’s here!

Last year you had to trek to the middle of a market in South London to buy jewellery like this but now the high street is cottoning on to it as well and replicating the retro styles of eighties jewellery – but if you enjoy the hunt, it’s worth digging through charity shops and vintage stores for the real thing.

This is not a trend for the shy and the meek – if you’re going to wear jewellery like this you have to wear it LOUD, and with the attitude to back it up. I’m going to go and practise my swagger right now while you guys check out the best ghetto-girl earrings you can get online in the gallery above.

Shiny Style loves: Jewellery at RockNRose

Butterfly Headband

Here at ShinyStyle we’re all suckers for quirky, unusual accessories to add interest to a trusty old outfit. I’m especially a fan of vintage-inspired designs, which are having a bit of a revival at the moment, so it was great to finally check out the up-and-coming jewellery brand RockNRose today and see what their store is all about. What I found was a riotous and quite magical explosion of colour and shape which took inspiration from antiques and Victoriana to create a new, exciting jewellery brand. Pixie Lott and Peaches Geldof are already fans.

Especially exciting is their special collection of intricate headbands. If you’ve ever fancied a high-drama, quirky look like Anna Dello Russo or similar, this is the place to try it out, as RockNRose offers a pretty and theatrical array of fascinators. Our personal favourite is their much sought-after hummingbird headpiece, which is handpainted leather and gives a nod to this Autumn/Winter’s craft trends – wear it with a cocktail dress for a cool and exciting party look.

As well as their own vintage-inspired designs, they sell the real thing. Check out the Vintage section of their online store for specially sourced, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Have a peek at the gallery for our favourite bits and bobs from the RockNRose store – and girls, don’t buy everything at once!

Kate Hudson is collaborating with Chrome Hearts on a jewellery line.

By Andrea Petrou on April 27th, 2011

Kate Hudson is collaborating with Chrome Hearts on a jewellery line.

The ‘A Little Bit Of Heaven’ actress is the first actress to partner with the company on a range, which will be called CH + KH and sees Kate team with Chrome Hearts founders and close friends, husband and wife tram Richard and Laurie Lynn Stark.

According to WWD, the collection – a one-off set for now – will be 18 and 22 carat gold bohemian pieces set with white diamonds, fresh water pearls and aquamarine, green tourmaline, peridot and citrine gemstones and will launch in late summer in selected Chrome Hearts stores.

Kate is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend, Muse rocker Matt Bellamy, and recently said although she does not know the sex of the baby, she thinks they will have a girl after doing a “pendulum test”.

Kate – who also has a seven-year-old son, Ryder, from her marriage to Chris Robinson – said: “So here’s the pendulum test. You take a piece of hair and you take a ring, and you string it through – this is very witchy of me!

“And then what you do is you hold it over your stomach. And then if it moves in a circle, it’s a girl and a boy goes back and forth.”

Paris, you’ve been naughty: The squillionaire heiress faces a lawsuit over nicked jewellery

By emilyborrett on April 7th, 2011

Girl-about-town and impossibly rich heiress of the Hilton hotel nest-egg, Paris Hilton, has found herself in a bit of a sticky situation with the law – and all because she forgot to give back about $60,000 worth of jewellery that was borrowed for an event. Don’t worry Paris, we’ve all done it – except with library books, not diamonds.

The cheesed-off jewellers in question are the Italian company Diamani, who lent Paris the jewels all the way back in 2007. Apparently ever since Paris has been trying to sneakily avoid giving the jewels back, ignoring letters and requests from Diamani to have the loaned items back. We would have thought that Paris is so rich that she doesn’t actually need to steal jewellery, but you know, whatever – maybe she’s just been having a bit of a Winona Ryder moment. She must be a bit worried at the moment, as the jeweller’s have pulled out the big guns and filed a lawsuit against her yesterday.

As we all know, this isn’t the heiress’ first scrape with the long arm of the law, most recently recieving a one-year suspended sentence for possession of cocaine. Come on Paris, we’ve all seen photos of you in that orange jumpsuit and it didn’t suit you one bit – it’s not going to suit you now either. Sort it out girl!

Giles Deacon is a fan of statement jewellery

By Andrea Petrou on April 4th, 2011

Giles Deacon is a fan of statement jewellery.

The fashion designer – who, along with London jewellery star Hannah Martin, led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design earlier this week – says he likes pieces that stand out and can transform an outfit as well being something most people could wear.

Speaking about why he crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner for his stunning ring – which was made from the rare and precious metal palladium – Giles said: “I did make my final decision very quickly, actually. It was very much an initiative thing with me. It was something that was very kind of quality instant, very, very strong. I like statement jewellery and something that many people could wear and you don’t need a manual to understand and I think the one I chose did that.”

Giles said he was hugely impressed with the competition – a collaboration between Palladium Alliance International and Masters Design students specialising in Jewellery Ceramics and Furniture at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design – and the work everyone produced.

He said: “The work that has been presented by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design MA Design and Jewellery students using palladium is as I would have hoped , inventive, beautiful and directional.”

By Andrea Petrou on March 31st, 2011

Giles Deacon led a judging panel to find the winner of the Central Saint Martins Palladium Jewellery Design competition last night (30.03.11).

The renowned fashion designer was joined on the panel by London jewellery star Hannah Martin and after looking at the bespoke work of the five finalists, they crowned Leigh Cameron as the overall winner in a glamorous ceremony at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts.

The stunning winning ring, made from the rare and precious metal palladium, was inspired by large architectural shapes and the talented student said: “It has been an amazing experience, I never thought that I would win and as I am studying furniture, designing jewellery is a whole new experience for me. Working with Palladium has been fantastic and I look forward to working with it again in the future.”

Giles said he was hugely impressed with the competition – a collaboration between Palladium Alliance International and Masters Design students specialising Jewellery Ceramics and Furniture at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design – and the work everyone produced.

He said: “The work that has been presented by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design MA Design and Jewellery students using palladium is as I would have hoped , inventive, beautiful and directional.”

Milla Jovovich has been named as the new face of jeweller Jacob and Co

By Andrea Petrou on March 31st, 2011

Milla Jovovich has been named as the new face of jeweller Jacob and Co.

The model-and-actress – who previously had her own fashion label, Jovovich-Hawk, with catwalk beauty Carmen Hawk – was unveiled as the new ambassador for the Swiss brand at a cocktail reception at Baselworld, the annual watch and jewellery tradeshow in Switzerland.

Jacob & Co. is a luxury watch and diamond jewellery house, founded over 25 years ago by Jacob Arabo and is best known for its five time zone watches.

Jacob said: “We have been looking for the right personality and beauty that represents what I call; ‘The Jacob Girl’, she is a sophisticated world traveller, self accomplished and exudes an assertive feminine personality, lastly, she is absolutely gorgeous!”

Milla was decked out in diamonds – provided by Jacob and Co. for the occasion – and joked it was not a new occurrence for her.

She said: “Well, it’s not much. This ring is $20 million. This bracelet is probably $10 million. Necklace is about, I don’t know, 6.5. The earrings are 10. No big deal.”

ShinyStyle loves: Quirky jewellery at Chelsea Doll

By Andrea Petrou on March 24th, 2011

Birdsong Necklace

You may remember that a while back we looked at the boutique online jewellers Chelsea Doll, whose speciality was a charming blend of quirkiness, with a few of the current trends mixed in for good measure. Well, it’s been a while since we had a look at their site, and we have to say that this is a boutique who has only gone from strength to strength since we were last there. Once selling a limited selection of their sweet designs, now they have absolutely masses to choose from – and there’s something for everybody.

If it’s cutesy, ironic kitsch that you’re after, as seen in the past few seasons at Louis Vuitton and and Miu Miu, then Chelsea Doll is the place to look. Birds, insects, vintage homewares and flowers – all key themes in Chelsea Doll design which will add a cute twist to any outfit.

Our absolute favourite piece is the frankly adorable “Birdsong” necklace, which is a row of tiny sparkling birds on a silver chain. How very Miu Miu! Or if you want to go further down the opposite route to toughen up your outfit, there’s a great series of skull jewellery which will add a great twist to a party dress or girlie outfit – we absolutely love their scarlet crystal-studded skull earrings.

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer meets with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2011

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer has met with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

The troubled star is due in court later today to say if she will take a plea bargain in her alleged felony theft of a $2,500 necklace from jeweller Kamofie & Company.

Her lawyer, Shawn Holly, met with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz – who is hearing the case – and Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers yesterday (09.03.11) in a bid to convince them to revise their plea deal of six months jail time.

A source told website Radaronline.com: “Holly is trying to use the fact the jewellery store owners sold the surveillance video of Lindsay to keep her client out of jail, or at least consider greatly reducing the six months that the District Attorney is seeking for probation violation.”

Earlier this week it emerged Kamofie & Company had sold the CCTV footage of Lindsay in the store on the day of the alleged theft for profit, which it has been claimed could work to her advantage.

A source said earlier this week: “The owners of the store’s credibility is on the line, and going to be scrutinised. The price of the necklace is going to be revisited again.

“For Lindsay to be charged with a felony, the necklace had to be priced at over $900.

“Holley has an excellent argument that the owners could have inflated the price of the necklace to the authorities.”

If Lindsay doesn’t take a plea deal, her case will proceed to trial, and she will face a much longer sentence if found guilty, as she will be classed as a repeat offender.

The 24-year-old star’s legal troubles all stem from a 2007 Driving Under the Influence arrest, and in January she completed a 90-day court ordered stay in rehab.
