Bing Bang by Anna Sheffield brass cuff

By Andrea Thatcher on February 25th, 2009

Blue Brass Mixed Chain Cuff 2.JPG

I have to say I hope cuffs never go away. I know, I know, they’d come back around again. But I’m not ready to let them go. With statement necklaces all over the Fall 09 runways, statement bracelets are surely still in the running for spring.

This blue brass mixed chain cuff by Bing Bang by Anna Sheffield was part of a collaborative presentation with clothing designer Bensoni during fashion week. With the lasting precious materials Sheffield is known for, this is no Forever 21 throwaway, but it won’t break the bank either. The designer’s Bing Bang line is more affordable and brass cuffs are generally in the $200 range.

Retail site review: St. Kilda Jewelry online shop

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 12th, 2008

St. Kilda jewelry.jpg

Shopping for jewelry is one of the more intimidating areas of retail. Even for a more modest piece you’re left asking a store assistant to take things out of a case to think about and try it on in front of her with her two cents thrown in where you don’t need it.

That’s why we love shopping for jewelry online, and were excited to learn about St. Kilda’s new online shop. Read on to see what we thought.

The return of turquoise?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 19th, 2008

Turquoise bracelet 1.jpg

Turquoise may never really have gone away as far as hippies and Southwestern tourists are concerned, but is the stone making a comeback in fashion?

The latest incarnations of turquoise jewelry are less American Indian-inspired and more polished, implying that this time around it’s more about the color than the stone.

J. Crew shines a spotlight on accessories

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 18th, 2008

J. Crew accessories.jpg

Looks like we’ll have more accessories to lust after at J.Crew as they unveil their extended assortment and a new accessories-only catalog this Friday.

The assortment also includes the new J.Crew fine jewelry collection. These pieces are a bit more formal (and expensive) than the costume jewelry line.

To get an idea of the prices, a 10-karat gold boule ring with pearl is $495 and a ribbon-tied long pearl necklace is $200.

“This is our first foray into fine jewelry,” Creative Director Jenna Lyons Mazeau told WWD. “We want to be approachable.”

The new variety of bags, shoes, and jewelry is already available on J.Crew.com.

For more on the bags and shoes, keep reading.

Marc Jacobs link watch

By Andrea Thatcher on January 24th, 2008

Marc%20Jacobs%20watch.jpg

This Marc by Marc Jacobs link watch would make a really cute everyday staple with style. For only $175 you get a cute watch and don’t even have to turn the face inward on your wrist so fashionistas can’t see the brand (remember Andy in The Devil Wears Prada?). I would wear this to work, shopping, travelling and more.

By Andrea Thatcher on January 16th, 2008

Nomination%20earrings.jpg

Flipping through a Tiffany catalog, especially with Christmas just passed and Valentine’s Day right around the corner, can be downright depressing. The perfect thing to combat the blue-box blues? Nomination Italy’s Tiffany-inspired Glam earrings.

Real amethyst stones and colored cubic zirconia illuminate the 18K gold settings of the earrings which ring up at $233, as opposed to $4,100 for a pair of Tiffany Paloma’s SugarStacks earrings.

Scissor cuff from Toy Me

By Andrea Thatcher on January 4th, 2008

scissor%20cuff.jpg

Once, in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen while on a mission trip with the Tennessee Outreach Project, I created a cuff out of two run-of-the-mill forks and fell in love with it. The cool thing, I felt, was that you could create completely different pieces by using completely different forks.

Well, this scissor cuff from Toy Me kind of reminds me of that experiment. Check out the images over at NOTCOT.com where we discovered the piece to see how it actually opens, as well.

There’s definitely something a little bit edgy about wearing a cutting tool on your wrist. Dreamed up by Paris designer Thomas Jaillot and Marco De Michelis, the cuff is part of an upcoming Toy Me collection to be presented next week.

Subversive Jewelry had a great 2007, is set for 2008

By Andrea Thatcher on January 2nd, 2008

Subversive%20Jewelry%20necklace.jpg

After being named a CFDA/Vogue fashion fund top ten finalist but missing the top prize, Subversive Jewelry has finally broken through as a winner in the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation awards. Not only did Justin Giunta’s jewelry earn the label a slot among the seven winners, the designs earned it the title of the first ever accessories winner in the Ecco Domani competition. Designers win $25,000 toward the presentation of their collections at New York Fashion Week, so we’re not sure where Subversive Jewelry will get to spend its prize. But we hope it goes towards more designs like this double strand pearl necklace, $560.

Cole Haan gets in on collaboration trend, first up Bing Bang Jewelry

By Andrea Thatcher on December 20th, 2007

Cole%20Haan%20Bing%20Bang.jpg

Cole Haan is planning to celebrate its 80th anniversary with a seasonal collaborative series in 2008. They plan to work with designers from the fields of sculpture, architecture, industrial design, and jewelry – which is first up with Bing Bang designer Anna Sheffield. Bing Bang recently did a line of jewelry with Marc Jacobs, so will certainly bring some high-fashion cred to Cole Haan. Sheffield will be creating decorative jewelry accents, clasps, and closures for Cole Haan handbags and jewelry. This is a particularly interesting collaboration since Cole Haan’s accessories aren’t really known for a lot of embellishment or fancy hardware. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.
