By Kimberley Foster on May 13th, 2008

As we mentioned yesterday, John Galliano is currently over here to collect an award from the Savannah College of Art, as well as to present his spring/summer ’09 cruise collection for Christian Dior. Last night, the designer took to the catwalk at Gustavino’s in New York wearing his usual outlandish dress to close a show that dazzled in colours, embellishments and animal prints. But was it just a rehashing of his last cruise collection?

John Galliano goes back to school in Savannah

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 12th, 2008

John Galliano.jpg

After presenting his cruise collection for Christian Dior tonight in New York, designer John Galliano is headed to a whole other culture – the south.

In his first visit to Savannah, Georgia Galliano will be accepting the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Who better to fully appreciate the drama of Galliano’s designs and handle his full-on ball gowns than a southern belle? We can easily see one or two of his creations on Scarlett O’Hara.

For more fact and less fiction on the visit, keep reading.

Paris Fashion Week: Christian Dior

By Andrea Thatcher on February 26th, 2008

Isabelle over at Catwalk Queen says “There’s nothing guaranteed to lift my spirits more than a picture of the wide-eyed Masha, except maybe a picture of the wide-eyed Masha with eye make-up that makes her peepers even bigger!” It seems the “dead socialite” look was alive and rocking at the Christian Dior fall 08 show in Paris. Galliano hemmed in his usual kookyness to produce a retro slice of psychedelia. For more, see the whole story here.

Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2008: Christian Dior

By Andrea Thatcher on January 21st, 2008

John Galliano’s spring haute couture collection for Christian Dior spoke volumes. Volume in taffeta and satin bunched, swagged, bustled and draped. And volume in bright, saturated, pastel and jewel-tone colors.

The collection was full of drama with oversized toppers that resembled objets d’art more than hats, painterly prints, paillettes and embroidery. Gone was the delicacy and old-fashioned femininity of Galliano’s fall collection. Instead of exaggerated waists, caricatures of silhouettes gone by, proportions were blown out in the opposite direction, ballooning away from the body with a structure belying the craftsmanship of the collection.

Paris Fashion Week: Christian Dior

By Andrea Thatcher on October 2nd, 2007

The Christian Dior ready-to-wear spring 2008 collection was smokin’! John Galliano celebrated the 60th Anniversary of Christian Dior with steamy hot ’20s through ’40s-themed designs depicting all the styles he’s created throughout his 10-year career with Dior. Set to the beat of Sting’s “Englishman in New York” as the perfect ‘mood’ music, Galliano debuted with his renowned pant suit in the form of a three-piece pin-stripe with a chic hardware-accented baret. His other designs primarily consisted of trench coats, zebra and leopard print, leaf patterned pencil skirt sets, and pagoda-shouldered renditions of his Madame Butterfly collection. And oh how we loved the accessories galore! Big, fabulous handbags, dazzling jewelry, strappy heels, and of course, sexy vintage-inspired hats. Check out more photos from the show after the jump.

Fashion blogging gets a dose of high art, and vice versa, with The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute

By Andrea Thatcher on September 26th, 2007

costume%20institute%20collage.jpg

Apparently The Metroplitan Museum of Art has caught on to the fact that we all love to blog about it’s Costume Institute and decided to get in on the action. With “blog.mode: addressing fashion”, WWD reports, the museum hopes to create an instant discourse about the clothes, with computer terminals at a “blog bar” right there in the musuem. About 40 costumes will be on display from the museum’s permanent collection, some of which have never been on show.
