Trend Alert: Blouses

We love this opulent jewel-printed blouse - so on trend! Wear with a maxi skirt and some huge earrings for a dramatic look. Find it Asos.

One of the absolute staples that you will definitely need this autumn is one of my favourites: the blouse. Pussybow, sheer, printed or oversized – they’re absolutely key for your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Pick the right one and it’ll see you the whole way through to the next year.

Marc Jacobs, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jonathan Saunders all included feminine, old-fashioned blouses that walked the line between austere and sexy in their collections. We were especially big fans of Jonathan Saunders’ jewel-coloured silk high-necked blouses, which, teamed with a skinny pencil skirt and heels, were glorious. If you want to kill two trends with one stone then opt for one in an unusual, quirky print, as pattern and shape are the two absolute key words for this season.

Our favourites? Personally, I’m a big fan of American Apparel’s illustration-print blouses and Topshop’s quirky 60s pastel-pink blouse with a peter pan collar (you know how I’m a sucker for anything disgustingly retro). Check out the gallery for our favourite blouses from the high street.

New York Fashion Week Gallery: Jonathan Saunders Fall / Winter 2009

By Gemma on February 16th, 2009

Shoulders. Shoulders, shoulders, shoulders. We’re only a couple of days into fashion week, but already there’s a big trend emerging. We say ‘emerging’, we’ve known about the return of the shoulder for ages, but it’s really showing itself in the collections in New York. Following a much softer silhouette last season, Jonathan Saunders has delivered a much stricter, more powerful collection for Autumn / Winter, with shoulders at the forefront. They were chunky and square, round and bubbled, or accentuated with sashes of bright colour. The main inspiration was birds, with bright colours cutting through a black background, and touches like rich brocades, bold prints and skyline-effect belts cut through to add interest. As usual, Saunders was on top form, bringing together all kinds of ideas but somehow delivering them cohesively.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2009 Trendwatch: Sea-inspired colors

As the international fashion weeks roll out, we’re still processing everything we saw in New York – especially as a lot of it has shown up in London and Milan.

From bluemarine to seafoam, colors inspired by the sea are big for spring 2009. While blue and white are often used in combo, it’s anything but nautical – much more chic and streamlined.

Above are some of the more innovative blues we saw on the runways – from Jonathan Saunders, Tuleh and Peter Som. Tuleh took the colors of a seaside sunset straight from the landscape for his skirt suit and Som’s design captures all the colors of the ocean.

News just in: Jonathan Saunders is Target’s newest GO designer

By Kimberley Foster on May 22nd, 2008

jonathansaunderstargetannouncement.jpgIs Jonathan Saunders on the path to world domination?

Firstly he is given the job of creative director at Pollini and now we hear that the British designer is Target’s newest GO International designer – as we speculated way back in January.

In creating a range for Target, Saunders joins the likes of Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Proenza Schouler, and more recently Richard Chai and Rogan Gregory.

Jonathan Saunders next designer to Go International for Target?

By Andrea Thatcher on January 15th, 2008

Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders seems to have something of a penchant for the cheap chic. His collection for Topshop will be hitting stores over in the U.K. soon, and now it is rumored that he will be the next designer to create a collection for Target’s Go International range.

It’s possible the Scot is trying to raise his American profile since he plans to show his fall 2008 collection in New York, not London where he has previously shown.

Known for his colourful geometric prints and for dressing Thandie Newton on a regular basis, he’s set to bring some colour to the runways of New York and now perhaps the streets of the suburbs.

For pictures of what could be in store, keep reading.

Make room in the tents for Jonathan Saunders who moves his fashion show to New York

By Andrea Thatcher on November 28th, 2007

Last month sister site Catwalk Queen wondered if one of their favorite designers was on the move.

He is. So New York Fashion Week will have to make room for another U.K. designer because Jonathan Saunders is joining the British brigade of designers who make the biannual trip to the city to show their new collections. I guess it’s not much more trouble to cross the Atlantic if you have to pack up your showroom anyway, but it’s got to be a lot more expensive! I suppose they hope the U.S. exposure will be worth it.

Known for his colourful geometric prints and for dressing Thandie Newton on quite a regular basis, he’s set to bring some colour to the runways of New York.
