Nicole Scherzinger started counting calories when she was 14.

By Andrea Petrou on November 22nd, 2011

Nicole Scherzinger started counting calories when she was 14.

The X Factor judge says she was aware of her body shape from quite a young age and admits it started take over her life.

She told Shape magazine: “I started jogging and counting calories when I was just 14. I’ve been on every diet you can imagine. By the time I was in the Pussycat Dolls, I was on the scale all the time. It became my enemy because I noticed that when I exercised really hard, I’d gain weight.”

However, the 33-year-old beauty says she’s more relaxed with her diet and doesn’t deny herself anything.

She said: “Now that I’m in my 30s, I’ve stepped off the scale. I just go by how my clothes fit.

“I’m more accepting of my body and have learned to really embrace it. These days it’s all about finding balance. My new motto is: ‘Stay active, eat everything in moderation, and stop being so tough on myself.’ “

Christian Dior will announce John Galliano replacement shortly – Alexander Wang is tipped to be the new designer

By Andrea Petrou on October 3rd, 2011

Christian Dior is set to announce the name of John Galliano’s successor imminently.

Bill Gaytten, acting head of design for the French fashion house, explained the label has experienced a “tough period” since the former creative director was sacked earlier this year after being accused of racism and anti-Semitism.

He said: “It’s been a tough period, but what can I say?

“My lips are sealed, but all will be revealed.”

However, Dior’s autumn/winter 2011 collection will see the label move away from the “fantasy narrative” associated with Galliano’s designs, and move back to “classic”, but contemporary styles and shapes.

Bill added in an interview with the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “It’s definitely more about reality than fantasy. The fantasy narrative was very John.

“We’ve gone for classic Dior shapes, but contemporary.”

Alexander Wang is now being tipped to take on the role of head designer at the company after frontrunners Haiden Ackerman, Marc Jacobs and Riccardo Tisci were recently ruled out.

A source close to LVMH, the parent company of Dior, explained: “For Dior, it’s a pretty tricky situation, as the three frontrunners really can’t take the job.

“Haider Ackermann is said to be ‘way too edgy’ for Dior; Marc Jacobs wanted the job a lot, but LVMH wants him to stick with Vuitton; and Riccardo Tisci simply refused, saying that he was feeling more than comfortable with the job at Givenchy. So nobody’s taking over so far.”

Yay or nay?: X-Factor Tulisa’s new hair

By emilyborrett on August 18th, 2011

Yesterday was the X Factor Press launch in London’s leafy Greenwich, and we couldn’t resist having a gander at the paparazzi photos to have another gawp at our new line-up of judges. Neither could we help staring long and hard at Tulisa Contostavlos’ new hair, which has acquired some yellowy stripy bits in it all of a sudden.

We all know that dip-dyeing (the ends of your hair being lightened for a surfer girl look) is a big hair trend at the moment, but we’re not sure about the streaky chunks of blonde at the top of Tulisa’s hair.. Maybe it’s just us but we thought that streaky hair was finally a thing of the past – but maybe that’s just us. Personally we preferred the N-Dubz singer’s dark chocolatey locks..

What do you think? Vote in the poll below to let us know whether you think Tulisa’s new dye-job is a do or a don’t.

See pictures from The X-Factor press launch here.

What do you think of Tulisa’s new hair?
It’s a thumbs up from me

Dannii Minogue thinks more dresses need to “flatter” arms

By Andrea Petrou on June 30th, 2011

Dannii Minogue thinks more dresses need to “flatter” arms.

The Australian star works on her own fashion line Project D with friend Tabitha Somerset Webb, and although she has no technical experience, the sexy singer does believe she knows what works to help women feel their best.

She said: “I have worn dresses in the glare of public scrutiny. I know how a great dress needs to work.

“I want to know, for example, what is it with designers and sleeves? Why is it so hard to buy a dress that flatters your arms?”

However, the 39-year-old star admit she was not completely confident when she decided to wear a Project D dress on the UK version of ‘The X Factor’ for the first time because she had only just given birth to first baby Ethan with British hunk Kris Smith.

She told Grazia magazine: “The first time I wore Project D on the show I was so nervous. It was the Jingle dress – fitted, knee-length, full skirt – very ‘Mad Men’.

“I’d only just had a baby and had completely changed shape. I felt so insecure.”

Cheryl Cole annoyed by Cowell snub

By Andrea Petrou on June 8th, 2011

Cheryl Cole was annoyed Simon Cowell didn’t have the “guts” to tell her she had been sacked from the US ‘X Factor’.

The 27-year-old beauty – who was officially replaced on the show by Nicole Scherzinger earlier this week following two weeks of speculation – is upset the music mogul had created a “circus” around the talent show and believes it is “shoddy” her dismissal was made public before there had been any official statement.

A source said: “Cheryl is very much her own person and she hated the circus that the ‘X Factor’ had become.

“She was annoyed that when the bad news came, Simon did not even have the guts to tell her himself and left it to another executive.

“But she was even more upset that the discussions over her contract became open season for everyone. It was shoddy to say the least.”

Cheryl is also said to have hit out at 51-year-old Simon by claiming she is no one’s “puppet” in text messages to her friends.

The source added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “After the reports surfaced at the weekend that Cowell wanted her back, her pals were clamouring to know what was going on.

“Her text response was short and brutal – that she was ‘no one’s puppet.’ It said it all. And while not mentioning Cowell by name it was clear who she meant.”

Meanwhile, Nicole – who was originally supposed to co-host the show with Welsh presenter Steve Jones – has confirmed she only found out she had replaced Cheryl as a judge when she read reports in the press.

She said: “I haven’t said this yet, but I think it’s official that I have been made a judge. It’s an amazing opportunity.

“I’m kind of finding out along with everyone else. It’s kind of crazy to read about it in the newspaper first.”

Cheryl Cole receives three film offers

By Andrea Petrou on May 18th, 2011

Cheryl Cole has reportedly received three movie offers in the US.

The ‘X Factor’ star is said to have impressed Los Angeles film bosses during her four-day appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in the south of France so much they have approached her about appearing on the big screen.

A source said: “It has been amazing to see the reception Cheryl has had after going to Cannes.

“As soon as she got back to America, people from California were getting in touch about having her in their films.

“When she went to the festival last year there was a lot of interest from the media but nothing like this kind of attention from movie companies. It just shows how quickly her profile has rocketed now she is on the US ‘X Factor’.”

Although Cheryl will be busy judging pop hopefuls on the panel of the Stateside version of Simon Cowell’s talent show, she is keen to try her hand at acting as soon as she gets the chance.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: “At the moment it’s just about sorting out when she can actually fit in any filming because her schedule is full until Christmas. She’s very keen though.”

It’s not just production companies who have taken notice of the 27-year-old singer – Angelina Jolie has apparently been praising Cheryl as well.

The actress told her fans she thought Cheryl was “very beautiful” and revealed she is “causing a stir” in the US.

Cheryl Cole confirmed for US X Factor: We take a look at her style

By Andrea Petrou on April 5th, 2011

The grapevine is buzzing this morning with reports that Cheryl Cole has been confirmed to judge the US X Factor.

According to the rumour mill, record producer and confirmed judge L.A. Reid let it slip that the pop princess was to star alongside him on the show.

In a conversation with Perez Hilton, he said: “We’re gonna compete against American Idol just fine. I’m very confident. But along with Simon Cowell and Cheryl, I don’t know who the other judge is.”

However, Simon Cowell still won’t play and confirm or deny the rumours. It is thought he originally had reservations about moving Chezza to the US over fears that no one would be able to understand her Geordie accent.

We however think she’ll do amazingly. Especially in the fashion stakes. Just to remind you of her style we’ve put together a mini gallery of all her red carpet and casual looks.

Nicole Scherzinger signed up to host the US version of ‘The X Factor’

By Andrea Petrou on March 22nd, 2011

Nicole Scherzinger has been signed up to host the US version of ‘The X Factor’.

Simon Cowell has reportedly signed up the former Pussycat Dolls singer – who is managed by his rival, ‘American Idol’ boss Simon Fuller – to present the show after negotiating a deal with Nicole’s American label CAA to ensure she has a clear schedule when the series launches later in the year.

However, with the 32-year-old beauty originally tipped for a role on the judging panel of the US ‘X Factor’, her “natural” ability in front of the camera convinced the 51-year-old music mogul to offer her the coveted hosting job instead.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Never has there been so much behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing as with ‘X Factor’ USA. “Having lined up Nicole as a potential judge, Simon decided to try something different and unexpected, and have a non-mainstream presenter present.

“Nicole’s had screen tests and is a natural in front of the camera. Autocue does not faze her at all. As an established singer, both as a solo artist and in a group, Nicole will be great with the contestants and knows what she is talking about.

“The approach was made a few weeks ago. And although she has still not formally signed, it’s all looking very positive.”

With Nicole having bagged the presenting job, Simon is still attempting to convince Fox bosses to sign up Cheryl Cole for the judging panel, amid concerns the ‘Promise This’ singer is relatively unknown in the US.

The source added: “On the judging front, things are changing almost daily, but Simon has put his neck on the line to sell Cheryl to network bosses. After being stonewalled initially, Simon believes he has convinced them to sign off her deal.”

Simon and record producer L.A. Reid are the only judges confirmed to appear on the panel so far, while Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Paula Abdul have all been linked to the two female roles.

An as-of-yet-unnamed male star will also co-host the series alongside Nicole.

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer meets with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2011

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer has met with her judge in a bid to keep her out of jail.

The troubled star is due in court later today to say if she will take a plea bargain in her alleged felony theft of a $2,500 necklace from jeweller Kamofie & Company.

Her lawyer, Shawn Holly, met with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz – who is hearing the case – and Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers yesterday (09.03.11) in a bid to convince them to revise their plea deal of six months jail time.

A source told website Radaronline.com: “Holly is trying to use the fact the jewellery store owners sold the surveillance video of Lindsay to keep her client out of jail, or at least consider greatly reducing the six months that the District Attorney is seeking for probation violation.”

Earlier this week it emerged Kamofie & Company had sold the CCTV footage of Lindsay in the store on the day of the alleged theft for profit, which it has been claimed could work to her advantage.

A source said earlier this week: “The owners of the store’s credibility is on the line, and going to be scrutinised. The price of the necklace is going to be revisited again.

“For Lindsay to be charged with a felony, the necklace had to be priced at over $900.

“Holley has an excellent argument that the owners could have inflated the price of the necklace to the authorities.”

If Lindsay doesn’t take a plea deal, her case will proceed to trial, and she will face a much longer sentence if found guilty, as she will be classed as a repeat offender.

The 24-year-old star’s legal troubles all stem from a 2007 Driving Under the Influence arrest, and in January she completed a 90-day court ordered stay in rehab.

X-Factor style war: Cheryl Cole vs Katy Perry

By Andrea Petrou on August 31st, 2010

Last year we became accustomed to pitting Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue against each other during each and every episode of the X-Factor.

However, with Dannii Minogue off looking after her baby it’s down to guest judges to fill her spot. And of course this has given us a great opportunity to begin an X-Factor style war. Two weeks ago Geri joined Cheryl, Simon and Louis on the panel, but if we’re honest we think Cheryl beat her hands down. However, this week the tables turned with Katy Perry making an appearance, donning a sparkly frock, which we think rivalled Cheryls military style.

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of the two and want you to tell us who you think is the most stylish. Is it Katy with her sometimes smart, sometimes quirky style? Or is it Cheryl’s designer get-up that wins your vote?

Vote below and let us know.

Tyra Banks blames poor economy on firing Paulina Porizkova from ‘America’s Next Top Model’

By Kimberley Foster on May 20th, 2009

tyrabanks_paulinaporizkova_fired.jpgHas Paulina Porizkova become just another victim of the global economic crisis? That is what Tyra Banks is citing after the Czech model was fired as judge on America’s Next Top Model. The only problem is that Paulina doesn’t quite see it that way.

She revealed on the Late Late Show that she was fired because it was suggested that she had a big ego. She then insinuated on Access Hollywood that behind-the-scenes Tyra is a diva, who was consistently late to set and only spoke to her in front of the cameras. Now, Tyra has responded to the claims by releasing the following statement:

“The current state of the economy has forced shows to make major budget cuts industry wide. America’s Next Top Model is not immune to these financially challenging times. We’ve had to make significant cuts in every area of the production and, unfortunately, Paulina was a casualty of these cuts.”
