Tribecca Film Festival 2011: Eva Mendes, Miranda Kerr and Julia Roberts

By Andrea Petrou on April 26th, 2011

This week stars have been out in full force, showcasing their latest films and frocks at the Tribecca Film Festival 2011.
Eva Mendes made an appearance at the premier of Last night in a stunning red chiffon floaty dress, while Rachel Roy gave a huge nod to the pastel trend in pink trousers and a pale blue top.
Julia Roberts donned her trademark suit look for the premier of Jesus Henry Christ and Sharon Osbourne followed with this trend at the God Bless Ozzy Osbourne. She was joined here by Kelly Osbourne who opted for a tight fishnet skirt and blazer, which showed off her curves.
Also showing off her amazing figure was Miranda Kerr who went for a classic shift LBD for the premier of the Good Doctor. But it wasn’t just Miranda who looked dressed to impress in an embellished white frock at the debut of hers and Karl Lagerfeld’s original film series inspired by Magnum Ice Cream.

Yay or Nay: Is Julia Roberts a style icon?

By Andrea Petrou on September 23rd, 2010

As we touched on this morning, Julia Roberts is no sheep when it comes to fashion. Yesterday the actress opted for a white trouser suit for the London premier of Eat, Pray, Love, shunning the standard frocks often worn by A-listers on the red carpet.
However, this is most definitely not the first time Ms Roberts has stepped away from traditional style. The actress who has in the past caused a stir with her love of hairy armpits (we’re sorry Jules but we just can’t see the attraction of having a hairy wet rainforest growing out of our pits) and made her name in the much loved Pretty Woman film. However her outfits couldn’t be more different to her character here, instead bordering more on her Erin Brockovich personality.

Trouser suits, knee length shift dresses and casual jeans form staple parts of the actresses wardrobe and although she’s been spotted in a rare ball gown at some events, the actress seems more comfortable in androgenous suits, flats, long sleeved dresses and frocks that hide away that gorgeous figure.

But what do you think? Is Jules a style icon or is her fashion sense a little bit on the frumpy side. View the gallery and then vote below to let us know.

Before they were famous: Kristen Stewart, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and more

By Andrea Petrou on August 27th, 2010

Come on admit it, all of you at one point in your teenage years had a stage where you didn’t look exactly like model material. Mine was from around 12-16 when GHDs hadn’t been invented and I didn’t know what a pair of tweezers were (think Ugly Betty and multiply it by 10 and you get an idea).

And it seems I wasn’t alone in my “ugly duckling” with celebrities, such as Kristen Stewart, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Winona Ryder and Posh all going through this phase before they transformed into beautiful swans.

We’ve put together a gallery of their pasts and presents to cheer you up on this wet and miserable Friday.

Warning: Some photos may shock you.

L’Oreal signs up Diane Kruger as its worldwide spokeswoman

By Andrea Petrou on December 7th, 2009

It seems to be the day for celebrity endorsements. Not to be out done at the news of Julia Robert’s new title as Lancôme’s new global ambassadress, L’oreal has just announced that it’s recruited Diane Kruger as its worldwide spokeswoman.

The German born actress, whose face “launched a thousand ships” (she played Helen of Troy in case you’re confused), will represent the brand’s new launches in hair care, hair colour and make-up.

Diane said: “It’s a great honour and a huge pleasure to become a Spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris. I admire the brand, not only for the quality and innovation of its products, but also because it represents diversity and excellence across the world, values which are very close to my heart. I am, of course, also delighted to be joining the other L’Oréal Paris Spokespeople, an extremely talented, widely-admired group of people.”

We hope the two latest announcements, featuring the faces, which will launch a thousand brands, don’t spark the next battle of cosmetics. It would be a tight contest.

Julia Roberts is signed up as Lancôme’s new global ambassadress

By Andrea Petrou on December 7th, 2009

Julia Roberts won our hearts a very long time ago in Pretty Woman and she’s continued to do so ever since, starring in films including Notting Hill and Runaway Bride.

Julia.jpgSo we were really pleased when we heard she’ll not only be gracing our favourite romcoms but also the pages of mags and ad breaks following being signed up as Lancôme’s new global ambassadress.

Following in the glittering footsteps of Kate Winslet, the Hollywood star known for her flawless complexion and big smile will represent Lancôme across the globe, however details are still shaky about what she’ll actually be doing.

Youcef Nabi, president of Lancôme International, told WWD: “By her remarkable personality and career, Julia Roberts is an emblematic woman of her time,”

“Her exceptional talent, her radiance and her strong commitments perfectly echo Lancôme’s values. We are convinced she will embody the brand in the most sublime way possible.”

Golden Globes non-event coverage: who we wish we’d seen

By Andrea Thatcher on January 13th, 2008

Golden%20Globes%20black.jpg

With the Golden Globes reduced to a half hour press conference, the red carpet traded for a picket line, and all the parties cancelled, it was not a very glam evening. But with many winners being of the lower-profile, less headline-grabbing sort, would a gala telecast have been a letdown anyway? Would everyone have worn black?

Take Julia Roberts, for instance. Pretty much the most megawatt star you can find, she has been sticking to basic black on the red carpet for a while (here at the American Cinematheque Awards and the Charlie Wilson’s War premiere). Her film did not win any of the five awards it was nominated for, giving way to lesser known performances like Cate Blanchett in I’m Not There and Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men.

For more on why Angelina Jolie and Juno star Ellen Page, while excellent performers, probably wouldn’t have upped the glamour quotient anyway, keep reading.

Spring Costume Institute exhibit to focus on Superheroes … fashion world scratches it’s head

By Andrea Thatcher on October 23rd, 2007

Roberts%20Clooney.jpg
Like the rest of the fashionable we wait with baited breathe for the Costume Institute spring exhibit each year. And like good little patrons of the arts, we don’t just mean the Gala (while yes, that is the most heart-pounding red carpet of our voyeur year). We love the exhibits themselves! Validating fashion as an art form, bringing the country together in celebration of one theme from fashion, a trip to NY if you’re not in the city, it’s all very exciting. So it’s with disappointment we relay our underwhelmed attitude toward the 2008 exhibit. Superheroes? Seriously? Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy. The Fashion and Fantasy part sounds fun and exciting, but the superhero part is going to be way more intriguing to my husband than myself. I can’t imagine Giorgio Armani, the honorary chair of the event, being that excited either. Maybe Julia Roberts and George Clooney, co-chairs of the gala dinner will be excited, as actors. But can we have one thing in fashion not infringed on by Hollywood?
