Happy birthday Kate! As the Duchess of Cambridge turns 31, we look at 31 looks from her royal engagements

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on January 9th, 2013

Since becoming a fully fledged member of the royal family, the Duchess of Cambridge’s fashion choices have been analysed to the minute detail. And she’s been awarded a A Star for style.

Whatever Kate is photographed wearing you can be sure it’s sold out within hours, as women desperately try to copy her style. From high street fashion and Zara, to high end bespoke designs by Alexander McQueen, Kate has risen to the task and has become an inspiration for young and old, as she’s represented Queen and country at home and abroad.

Not veering too far from her signature style – knee-length dress or jacket/skirt combo – Kate has shown that she can wear military chic as well as she wears sportswear and dazzling gala dresses.

In 2013 it’s not so much Pippa’s bum, than Kate’s bump that will receive attention. As the royal bump grows, we’re sure the Duchess will continue to delight and surprise us in her fashion choices.

Here are 31 of Kate’s royal engagement looks, starting with… her very own engagement announcement to Prince William.

Happy Birthday Kate!

Kate’s Style List app lets you stalk Kate Middleton’s clothes

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 24th, 2012

These days a day rarely passes without a photo of Kate Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge – and her latest fashion choices appearing in the tabloids or magazines. Each outfit is dissected to the littlest detail, with every dress and pair of shoes selling out as soon as the label is revealed – usually a high street brand.

With this fascination for the future queen of Britain and her style not seeming to fizzle out anytime soon, someone has decided to capitalise on the Kate effect and made an app for that. Yawn, do we really need this??!

The app, called Kate’s Style List, aims to keep her biggest fans, fashion lovers and stalkers up-to-date about where she’s been spotted, what she’s been wearing and how to copy her looks.

As far as apps go Kate’s Style List is just on the right side of ridiculous (for examples of those on the other side, check out Knocked App and I Just Made Love), but we still can’t help but feel if you’re downloading an app dedicated solely to the material that one person wears on their body then you need to have a long, hard think about your life.

Available from iTunes for 69p

What’s next? A Her Majesty’s Best Gin Recipes app?

The blue dress has been hanging around in the fashion wings, ever since Kate Middleton opted for this hue in the shape of her Issa engagement frock.

However, this season, this colour is really shining, becoming a key trend on both the red carpet and highstreet rails.

Katie Holmes showed how to wear this style for a daytime look, opting for a shirt style frock, while Diane Kruger took this look to smart levels with a 50s dress at Chanel’s haute couture show last week.

Giving a nod to Kate Middleton’s wrap frock was Rihanna and Emma Bunton, while Emma Stone showed how this hue could be bought bang up to 60s trend with a Peter Pan collar number.

Pictures: Kate Middleton’s five days of fashion

By Andrea Petrou on June 19th, 2012

Kate Middleton has had a week of being in the fashion spotlight.
The Duchess of Cambridge went on a range of Royal visits including meeting the cast of the theatre version of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. For this event she opted for a simple royal blue dress and coat.

However, the style changed over the weekend when Kate opted for a casual, albeit budget busting, look of £300 Le Chameau wellies, Zara jeans and jumper, a Burberry shirt and waterproof waistcoat for a countryside visit.

She later made up on her spend wearing a cream sculptured, double breasted coat by Alexander McQueen, which she was first spotted in at last year’s Trooping the Colour procession.

See her five days of fashion in the gallery below.

Everyone’s wearing: The red dress

By Andrea Petrou on June 7th, 2012

Kate Middleton dazzled in a red dress, complete with a pleated skirt and hat, when she stepped on board the Royal Barge for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant this weekend.

However, she’s not the only A-lister turning to this hue in a bid to make an impact. That’s right ladies it seems the LBD is this year being replaced by the red frock with a range of celebrities and designers showing off this colour.

Prada and Marc Jacobs were two of the designers which showed off red frocks, while Emma Stone, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Kylie Minogue are just a few of the celebrities showcasing this look.

Duchess of Cambridge voted the most fashionable royal female and we celebrate with a gallery of her hats

By Andrea Petrou on May 3rd, 2012

Catherine Duchess of Cambridge has been voted the most fashionable female royal according to a new poll.

The wife of Prince William scored a third of the vote pushing Her Majesty the Queen into second place with 21 percent.

The poll asked more than 1,000 female members of  bingo site DottyBingo.com, to choose the most fashionable from a list of eight royal women.

Other royals who scored well were Zara Philips and Sophie Wessex who received 14 percent and 11 percent of the vote respectively.

Other than Her Majesty, older Royals did not fare particularly well in the poll with Princess Anne and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall both scoring seven percent.

Younger royals also scored poorly with Princesses Beatrice getting five percent of the vote and Eugenie three percent.

Kate’s fashionable sister Pippa Middleton was excluded from the voted as she cannot be considered a royal.

A spokesperson from DottyBingo.com said: “It is no surprise that Kate has achieved the top spot of the UK’s most fashionable royal, as for the last year she has hardly left the media spotlight.

“She is a real trend setter, as she only has to be seen wearing something once for it to be an immediate hit on the high-street. What’s more, because of the Duchess’ fantastic shape clothes fit her perfectly.

“Nevertheless, Kate would have had competition for the top spot if we had let people vote for her sister Pippa. However, due to the fact she is not a royal, we decided to keep her of the list.
To celebrate we’ve taken a look back at Kate’s hats. See the gallery below for the best.

Pictures: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s London and New York wax figures

By Andrea Petrou on April 5th, 2012

Wax figures of Prince William and Kate Middleton have been unveiled at London’s Madame Tussauds and the museum in New York City.

The figures, which mark the first anniversary of the royal couple, have been styled and modelled on the pair at two separate events.

In London Kate wears the famous blue Issa dress that she wore when the couple’s engagement was announced.

“We created the engagement scene, that press call when they both looked a little bit nervous but so happy,” Louis Wiltshire, the sculptor of Kate’s head, told the Telegraph.

Over in New York the Duchess is dressed in the pale lilac Alexander McQueen gown that she wore to the BAFTA Brits to Watch event.

And if that wasn’t enough, fashion fans can also get a look at Kate’s War Horse Alice Temperley black dress in Amsterdam where another replica is displayed.

See below for all the pics.

Top five style influential woman in politics and the Royal family: Sarah Palin, Kate Middleton and more

By Andrea Petrou on March 19th, 2012

There’s no doubt about it, whether we like it or not, the royals, politician’s wives and politicians themselves have a huge impact on our style.
Whatever highstreet number Kate Middleton wears sells out in seconds, while her inlaw Zara Phillips shows us that casual can be cool.

We’re hot on Michelle Obama’s style, and Samantha Cameron’s love of Erdam and patterns also shapes the way some of us dress.

Then there’s the politicians that we thought would never feature in an influential top five. And in this case we’re talking about Sarah Palin.

We never thought this middle aged politician’s uniform high waisted skirts and satin blouses would make the grade but it seems this style, plus her love of all outdoorsy wear has hit a fashion note with the nation – well they do say fashion is fickle.

See the gallery below for our top five.

Women's Team GB hockey captain Kate Walsh watches the Duchess of Cambridge play hockey with the GB hockey teams at the Riverside Arena in the Olympic Park.

Well Kate Middleton certainly looked the part as she visted the Olympic site in her capacity as an ambassador for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. She specifically requested to meet the hockey team as she enjoyed playing the sport on the left wing at her school, Marlborough College.

The Duchess met team captains Kate Walsh and Barry Middleton, who joked that he was always asked if he was a relation, as well as Emily Maguire and Niall Stott. Picking up a stick for the first time since leaving school, she took three shots from the left hand side of the goal – all missed – and then moved to a central position, where she actually hit the target.

Afterwards Kate Walsh said: ‘Actually she was really good. She told me that she missed playing as part of a team.

‘She also told me that she used to hit the penalty corners and you could see that. She got low and her shots were really sweet.

‘We put her too far out to the left on goal but we was determined to keep going until she got one in.

‘It takes a bit of getting used to after such a long time away from the game.’

As she left, the Duchess said: ‘I really hoped to be here, I would love to see you play in the games.

‘Now I have seen the set up and got to see behind the scenes it would be really exciting to come back and see everyone in action. Good luck with everything.’

Great Britain’s men’s and women’s teams are both ranked fourth in the world, and with six weeks to go until final squad selection, are considered serious medal prospects.

Paris Fashion Week AW 2012: Alexander McQueen

By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2012

Sarah Burton has become a household name since she designed Kate Middleton’s wedding frock, but with her AW 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen she showed she was a fashion force to be reckoned with.
Depicting the outlandish McQueen style, models clad in big fur creations, including puff short dresses and evening gowns, marched down the catwalk, while ruffles and pleats in skirts gave a nod to the the Elizabethan dinner party.

Mixing in today’s futuristic trend, these styles were teamed up with wide shield glasses, big structured belts and super high platform boots.

Further into the collection Burton added a more intricate feel with lace fabrics and feathers taking the main stage.

Tulle was also added to evening wear, although fur still made an appearance on cuffs and necklines.

Now to find a suitable event to show one of these off.

Get the look: Kate Middleton’s Missoni blue coat worn on her visit to Fortnum & Mason

By Andrea Petrou on March 2nd, 2012

Kate Middleton once again showed off her style on a trip to Fortnum & Mason yesterday.
The Duchess of Cambridge gave a nod to the impending spring in a blue chiffon dress, which she teamed up with Rupert Sanderson suede heels.

However, what really caught our eye was her stunning blue Missoni boucle coat, which she accessorised with a little daffodil.

We know that not everyone is lucky enough to splash that cash on a designer coat so we’ve scoured the highstreet to bring you some affordable alternatives.

Give a nod to one of this season’s hottest trends and go for a cobalt blue shade or go for a more casual take with an oversized boyfriend blazer.

If you’re a fan of the military trend why not opt for a double breasted alternative, or go for a high collar.

See our top picks in the gallery below.

Top five celebrity denim styles: Alexa Chung, Angelina Jolie and Kate Middleton

By Andrea Petrou on January 12th, 2012

We’re not afraid to admit that we have far too many pairs of jeans.

Yes, some may look like another pair, but the fit is different and it would of course be rude not to own as many styles as possible. Some show off our booties while others elongate our legs.

Some can be worn with heels for a night out while others are great teamed up with trainers for a casual day at the park.

However, sometimes we struggle to find that perfect look and that’s where celebrities come in handy. We heart Rihanna’s take on the boyfriend jeans, while Angelina Jolie shows how to wear the bootcut look and give it a smart edge.

Then there’s Jessica Alba and Alexa Chung who rock the coloured jeans, teaming them with a plain top to really accentuate that hue.

See the gallery below for all the celebrity denim inspiration.

Kate Middleton wears Alice Temperley at the War Horse premiere

By Andrea Petrou on January 9th, 2012

Kate Middleton showed once again why she made our top five best dressed royals list last week.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning as she stepped out for the War Horse premiere in a black lace Alice Temperley fishtail dress complete with a plunging neckline.

She kept her trademark waves dry with a large clear circular umbrella and finished off her look with a small black clutch bag.

According to sources, Kate had the kleenex out from the beginning of the weepy film directed by Steven Spielberg. We hope she didn’t smudge her make up.

See the gallery below for images of Kate’s fab frock.
