Model citizen: Irina Lazareanu

By Andrea Thatcher on October 18th, 2007

Born in Romania and raised in Quebec before moving to London at 13 to study ballet at the Royal Academy of Arts, model Irina Lazareanu is helping bring back the supermodel. She became friends with former Libertine rocker Pete Doherty while living in London. Kate Moss, Doherty’s girlfriend at the time, picked Lazareanu to appear in an issue of French Vogue, which Moss was guest editing. Moss also picked Lazareanu to be the face of her first collection for Topshop. Lazareanu’s rocker vintage style is muse to designers Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel and Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga. Lazareanu says of her look, ”I’m very influenced by the whole ’60s-’70s London era, not only in terms of my clothes, but also in terms of the music I listen to, the movies I watch, the writers I read. Those influences probably translate into my personal style in an unconscious way.”

We know we’ve been inundating you with a lot of Kate Moss news lately, but that fringed filly is everywhere! Now, we bring you runway pictures form her holiday dress collection for Topshop and by extension Barneys here in the U.S. (where we will overpay for the pieces.)

Last night Kate Moss and Phillip Green hosted a dinner to launch the long-awaited party dresses from the Kate Moss for Topshop range. Catwalk Queen has pics of Kate posed with models last night before they took to the catwalk in the new collection.

More Moss: Simon Doonan dishes on Kate Moss’s Topshop office manner

By Andrea Thatcher on October 15th, 2007

Kate%20Moss%20topshop.jpg In his latest edition of Barneys Babble, Simon Doonan teases us with the knowledge of whether Kate Moss has a corner office or lowly cubicle at the Topshop head office in London. He never gives us the dirt on that question, but says Kate, shown here at the Kate Moss for Topshop Barneys New York launch, is very popular with Topshop employees (gee, go figure) and that she tries on every design for her line herself. Apparently she comes in weekly for meetings and goes on coffee runs for workers, which is nice since they’re probably chained to their desks working on her stuff while she can flit in and out as she pleases.

American customers paying more for Kate Moss Top Shop than UK customers

By Andrea Thatcher on October 12th, 2007

katemoss.jpg
The Daily Mail, a British newspaper, has reported that Barneys is marking up the price of items in Kate Moss’s Topshop collection. Flare jeans that cost £50 ($100) at Topshop cost $158 at Barneys. The Daily Mail predicts American shoppers may begin flying over to the UK for better shopping deals if this trend continues, the way UK shoppers have been hoping over to our side of the pond for years because clothing has traditionally cost less for them in America since the pound is currently stronger than the dollar.

My Experiment with Vogue

By Elaine LaPersonerie on October 12th, 2007

cover_vogue_190.jpg
This may sound crazy but I just achieved a life long quest: page by page I went through the October issue of Vogue to count the number of advertisements. I am always taken by the number of ads and what little content lives between them. The issue has 440 pages–all of which are filled with a variety of news stories–short designer profiles, longer fashion features, celebrity interviews and of course advertising: the glue that keeps the publication from folding. But here’s what’s amazing–before reaching any type of content (and by that I mean valuable reading material) I flipped through 60 ads. In hindsight the number 60 doesn’t sound so intimidating. 60 seconds, $60, 60 minutes–no matter how you slice it, 60 is pretty tolerable. But now take that number and imagine your freshly manicured fingers having to lick and turn 60 pages 60 times. A little insane right?

Kate Moss for Topshop new arrivals at Barney’s Co-Op

By Andrea Thatcher on October 1st, 2007

We get our Topshop fix where we can here in the US, not to mention our Kate Moss fix. Luckily, Barney’s Co-Op supplies both with new Kate Moss for Topshop arrivals in a monochromatic black-white-gray color palette. I’m not quite as excited about these pieces as the original collection, I prefer a bit more color in my wardrobe, but Kate Moss acolytes will surely be pleased. The cropped leather biker jacket, $375, is clearly a standout piece. The scarf top, $55, and deep V dress, $160 are chic staples for any model wannabe.

Kate Moss for TopShop: the sequel

By Andrea Thatcher on September 6th, 2007

campaign_image59.jpg
Following the consumer success of Kate Moss’ line for TopShop, the model that entered the stratosphere will design a second collection for the high street shop. Available September 7, 2007, in three hundred stores across the UK and online, this new collection is said to be more professional and braver than her previous one. Moss dares to break away from re-designing her own wardrobe, creating truly unique pieces this time around. The clothing takes inspiration from a range of sources including 1920s flappers, grunge, and Ali McGraw in Love Story. The pieces range in price from £12 to £150.

High-waist Jeans from Scarlett Johansson and Kate Moss to your Legs

When Scarlett Johansson strode down the Imitation of Christ runway in spring 2006 in a pair of high-waist, skinny dark jeans hugging her curves, it sent a shock through the fashion industry used to season after season of ultra-low, thong-revealing jeans. Then Kate Moss showed up for a TopShop press conference wearing pale, high-waist, wide-leg denim and everyone wanted to know where she bought—turned out they were vintage Chloé. Now retailers are starting to stock similar pairs. No more endlessly pulling up your pants with these jeans. Try these Chloé look-alike jeans from TopShop (“K Jean,” UK£40) or this pair from Silver Jeans (“Eternity,” US$90).
