Have your say: Should Primark be criticised for selling padded bikinis for 7 year olds?

By Andrea Petrou on April 15th, 2010

Primark.jpg
A few weeks ago Katie Price came under our Shinystyle spotlight for announcing that she was thinking of creating a range of make-up for children and judging by your votes many of you agreed that it was encouraging children to grow up too quickly.

And it seems she’s not the only one accused of encouraging this. Primark this week has come under fire from MPs and parenting charities after its decision to sell padded bikinis for 7 year olds.

David Cameron joined Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Mumsnet kicked off at the store, which has since removed the £4 range from shelves.

Following complaints Primark issued a statement claiming: The company has stopped the sale of this product line with immediate effect. Primark will donate all the profits made from this product line to a children’s charity, and apologises to customers for any offence caused.’

But it doesn’t look as though the chain will be getting off that easily as yesterday politicians were still furious

Mr Cameron said yesterday: ‘There is a classic example today where Primark are apparently pushing padded bras on seven-year-olds, which I think is completely disgraceful.

‘The sort of country I want is one where it is not just the Government that feels outraged about the early commercialisation and sexualisation of our children, but companies should stop doing it, they should take some responsibility,’ he added.

Do you think Primark behaved immorally by selling these bikinis or do you think it’s just a lot of fuss over nothing. Vote and leave your comments below and let us know.

Talking point: Should Jordan be allowed to launch a make-up range for kids?

By Andrea Petrou on March 17th, 2010

Katie and Princess.jpg

It seems ShinyStyle has taken on a child friendly theme today, but this time we’re not really sure what to think of the rumours that Katie Price (Aka Jordan) is launching a make-up range for kids.

The model, mum and author (although that’s debatable) announced plans to launch the range on her ITV2 reality show, What Katie did next, and said the range would be inspired by her two-year-old daughter Princess.

“Obviously the story would be she nicks my make-up all the time, it’s not safe for her to use a lady’s mascara… edible lipstick, little case with wipes to take your make-up off – you can get a nice case for make-up wipes, lipsticks, blushers and mascara and nail varnishes,” she said.

There’s no doubting that Katie is a good mum and if we’re honest we all dressed up and played with make-up when we were little (does anyone else remember the Tinkerbell range?) However, we’re not sure Jordan’s idea is meant to be for the home. She’s been blasted in the press for taking out Princess with lipstick and fake eyelashes.

Do you think a range like this could encourage young girls to grow up to fast? Let us know what you think by leaving your comments and voting in the box below.

Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 after party worst dressed: Selma Blair

By Andrea Petrou on March 9th, 2010

Selma.jpg

Like with the Oscar‘s ceremony we were a little bit hard pressed to find a worst dressed celebrity at the Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 party. Katie Price stuck to Elton’s do, and other celebs really dressed for the occasion.

However, there is always one that gives us an excuse for a little “what was she wearing” comment and we’re sorry to say that these words have fallen on Selma Blair.

We don’t mind the sparkly frock, but the length is a little bit confused for us, sitting too far under the knee and too high up to make it full length. We also think the blazer the actress has teamed it up with is too heavy for the outfit.

And we understand that it was cold, but Selma, really, you’re already wearing a blazer, you don’t need a scarf. Take a look around you and have a think about all those ladies who have braved the freeze without even a shawl.

Jordan wins our worst dressed award for her frock at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.

By Andrea Petrou on March 9th, 2010

Katie Price Oscars.jpg

Many people are pitching Katie Price (AKA Jordan) and Victoria Beckham against each other in the fashion stakes at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.

After all, they’ve been well publicised enemies for many years now. However, we’re not sure who would say Ms Price looked good in her frock, let alone beat a fashionista.

Now don’t get us wrong we generally don’t have a problem with Katie Price (we’re not team Pete or team Price t-shirt wearing girls), however, we have to say that her frock has got to be the worst one of the Elton John after party night.

To be fair on the model, mum and business woman, she kept her (er) assets covered up proving she can be elegant, however, the shiny fabric and huge flowers make her look like a mermaid who got lost in a poppy field.

We think that’s 5-1 to Victoria, Jordan.

If you’re still looking for that special Christmas present to put on your wishlist and have a small piece of admiration for Jordan then head Katie Price.jpgto Ebay now.

The former glamour model and I’m a Celebrity star is having a pre New Year clearout and selling some of her old clothes on the auction site.
Items include the £350 corset Jordan wore on her first date with ex husband Peter Andre, as well as designer heels, statement handbags and a range of bomber jackets.

A percentage of the money raised will also go to charity.

What make-up should the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ girls have taken into the Jungle?

By lotte on November 17th, 2009

I’m a Celebrity has kicked off once again on ITV1 and we’re addicted already. Most of us will probably be tuning in to watch Katie Price be subjected to a series of horrible trials, either enjoying it or feeling sorry for her, depending on which team you support. (I’m with Team Andre.) But there are five other women in the Australian outback as we speak. Allowed only one luxury item each, you can imagine how difficult the decision making process must have been for them: mascara or Vaseline? Blusher or concealer?

Jules Standish, a professional ‘colour consultant’ had a look at the female celebs in this year’s series and worked out what they should have decided to take with them.

Katie Price.jpg Katie Price: Unsurprisingly here, Jules would have given Katie a ‘big tube’ of fake tan, because her harsh black hair would look even worse against pale skin. We imagine Jordan snuck in a job lot of the stuff somehow.

Sam Fox.jpg Sam Fox: The ex-glamour model should have brought some mascara to “keep her lovely eyes sparkling”.

Sabrina Washington.jpg Sabrina Washington: Sabrina used to be in Mis-Teeq, one of those R&B bands that epitomised the early 2000s, but unfortunately for her, she’s now in a much less glamorous setting. According to Jules, Sabrina’s skintone needs ‘really strong colours’, so she’d give her some red lipstick.

Kim Woodburn.jpg Kim Woodburn: One half of Kim and Aggie, the How Clean is Your House star has already stripped off. Not a good idea, since her fair colouring needs to be kept out of the sun. Jules recommends tinted moisturiser to keep her skin glowing.

Lucy Benjamin.jpg Lucy Benjamin: Lucy had some less-than-glamourous moments on Eastenders, so she probably won’t mind being in the jungle without make-up. But if she did have some with her, Jules would prioritise ‘golden brown eyeshadow’ to bring out her eyes.

Camilla Dallerup.jpg Camilla Dallerup: Used to shedloads of make-up on the ballroom dancefloor, Camilla should be able to make do with blusher, says Jules. And she should stay out of the sun.

Get the look: Katie Price’s retro cartoon T-Shirt

By Andrea Petrou on September 17th, 2009

Katie P Oscar.JPGI absolutely love the retro cartoon look T-Shirts that have been gradually growing in popularity for the past two years.

Not only do they remind me of my childhood but are also a good way to wear casual t-shirts without feeling underdressed.

However it seems as though I’m not the only one to have fallen for this trend. We have spotted a number of celebs wearing these too including Katie Price.

I love this Oscar the Grouch top, which reminds me of my childhood Sesame Street days and the best thing about it is we can also get our hands on it. It’s £24.99 and it’s from Truffle Shuffle.

Get the look: Katie Price’s mini dress

By Andrea Petrou on September 7th, 2009

Katie P.jpgDespite what’s been said in the press recently I think Katie Price (aka Jordan for those of us who have been sleeping for the past few years,) is not too bad, especially her dress sense.

Those of you who think like me, will therefore be pleased to see that we have found the nearly exactly the same top (well we call it a top, she calls it a dress) she was spotted wearing on a recent night out in Ibiza.

It’s from Lamis Khamis, and unlike Kate’s expensive dress costs £150. You can get your hands on one from Spolied Brat.
