Oscars 2010: Sigourney Weaver is a scarlett woman in Lanvin

By laurenbravo on March 7th, 2010

Oscar_Arrivals214_wenn5440164.jpgWe suspected there might be a few red dresses tonight, and Sigourney Weaver has proved us right by turning out in crimson chiffon.

The Avatar star has ticked a lot of trend boxes by opting for a grecian-style, one-shouldered Lanvin number, with jewellery by Neil Lane and shoes by Jimmy Choo. The colour makes a change from the predominant hue of her dystopian movie, which is nominated for Best Picture. “I’m in red tonight, but I’m still blue underneath”, she joked.

Are amateur photographers the new bloggers?

By Andrea Thatcher on January 16th, 2008

All you really need to publish your thoughts on the latest runway collections is access to Style.com and a LiveJournal account. Whether anyone cares to read your thoughts is another matter.

In the case of fashion photography – all you need is a digital camera and a Flickr account. And recently, one designer has cared to “read people’s thoughts” as it were, through their amateur self-portraits.

Mirit Weinstock, the onetime Lanvin apprentice and designer behind the fledgling Reine line was recently so inspired by the photography she found on Flickr that she chose five of the picture-takers (not necessarily even photographers in their own minds) to shoot her spring look book.

Kate Holmes goes high fashion in Lanvin – but is it pretty?

By Andrea Thatcher on January 9th, 2008

One unfortunate side effect of wearing something straight of the runway is that you’re going to get compared to a model. I feel like this Lanvin dress on Katie Holmes, left, just proves that no matter how perfect your “real life” body is, if Hollywood can be considered real life, the dress usually looks better on a model. Sure it looks classy with the Louboutin heels and I feel like one culprit here is the lighting, but I didn’t find this exciting enough for a red carpet awards show. Perhaps the only one this season!

What do you think of the dress?
