LFW highlights: Felder Felder

By Andrea Petrou on September 20th, 2010

Cobalt blue, bright pinks and a strong dose of rebellion were the key to Felder Felder’s SS2010 collection.

Models marched down the catwalk to a soundtrack of I Blame Coco’s (Coco Sumner’s band) version of Steppenwolf’s Born To Be Wild (famous for its use in Easy Rider) in whimsical skirts and dresses in vividly bright hues, skater skirts, loose blazers and bra tops, as well as the twin’s trademark skinny black trousers and ruched rubber leggings.

Is it wrong to want the summer season to come around now?

LFW Highlights: Vivienne Westwood Red Label

By Andrea Petrou on September 20th, 2010

With Pamela Anderson in the front row and Daisy Lowe modelling, Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label SS2011 show was bound to be a good one.

The designer sent her models down the catwalk in signature tailored shorts, skirts and dresses, some of which had asymmetrical hems and draping.

However, true to form, we also got some twists, a la Dame Westwood style. These included
shorts with squares cut out at the hips, shoulders with extra fabric that gave them added shape and volume, and our favourite….tassels that hung off the tail of a leopard-print skirt. As you would expect there were also numerous printed tees.

Colours and fabric ranged from bright plaids, pyjama stripes (Tesco won’t be liking that), checks and leopard print.

LFW Highlights: Matthew Williamson

By Andrea Petrou on September 20th, 2010

Matthew Williamson’s catwalk shows are one of the most anticipated at London Fashion Week, and his SS2011 collection, named Urban Bohemian, didn’t disappoint.

Walking down the catwalk to an apt Summertime remix, models displayed soft summer fabrics including chiffon, tulle and lace in pale pastels, and of course florals and stripes.

Shapes were loose yet feminine and ruffles made up part of the collection.
Williamson also gave a nod to the 60s with vintage baby doll dresses as well as asymmetric
flowing frocks.

There were also some serious tailored trousers cut to flatter all figures which were just waiting to be snapped up for their rails. However our favourite piece of the day has got to be the peacock feathered sequin skirt. We really hope buyers take note and create something similar for next summer.

Vivienne Westwood designs limited edition plastic bottles

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

Viv Westwood bottles.jpg

Plastic bottles aren’t exactly what we would call fashionable, but add an iconic designer into the mix and you’ll get something pretty special.

Dame Vivienne Westwood has paired up with SIGG, the makers of the original Swiss reusable aluminium bottle, to build awareness around the unnecessary waste and harm that is caused to the environment by purchasing and throwing away plastic.

And the strange, but kooky relationship between the two has created a limited series of design bottles.

The three Limited Edition Vivienne Westwood bottles will be launched later on in 2010 and will coincide with the main fashion shows in June and September.

These limited editions will be exclusively available to invited guests and backstage at the shows, as well as a few available in selected stores.

Get drinking ladies. It’s good for fashion and the environment.

Topshop launches Danielle Scutt SS2010 collection

By Andrea Petrou on March 3rd, 2010

Danielle Scutt.jpg

It’s had a range of designers from Christopher Kane right through to Kate Moss, and it doesn’t seem Topshop will be slowing down anytime soon.

The highstreet store has just announced it will be teaming up with London Fashion Week designer Danielle Scutt who will produce a capsule collection of dresses, tops and accessories.

Danielle says: “I want the wearer to feel confident and inspired by wearing my clothes as I believe this collection will comfortably enable the Topshop customer to be elegantly and comfortably dressed from daybreak to nightfall.”

This isn’t the first time the two have collaborated, Danielle also designed a range for the store back in 2008, which as you can imagine was highly successful.

We say get yourselves down to Topshop as soon as the collection hits shelves on 7th March 2010.

First Looks, plus size

First looks: Crystal Renn for V Magazine

By Andrea Petrou on February 25th, 2010

Crystal V March.jpg

Cystal Renn is flying the flag for plus sized women and models everywhere.

She appeared in last month’s V magazine’s plus sized edition and earlier this week donned a bodycon dress for Mark Fast’s LFW catwalk show. And she’s still going.

The successful plus sized model, who admitted she used to suffer with anorexia due to the pressure of trying to make it as a “normal” sized model, has once again made her way to the front cover of V’s next issue hitting the shelves next month.

Posing in an Agent Provocateur bra and Dolce & Gabbana knickers, she’s the epitome of real beauty in our eyes.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Jaeger London

By Andrea Petrou on February 23rd, 2010
Jaeger London Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Classic knitted and jersey dresses over leggings were some of the designs Jaeger London pulled out of the fashion bag for its Autumn/Winter 2010 catwalk show yesterday afternoon.

Skirts and tailored trousers were paired with jackets, some of which gave hints to the preppy riding theme, and colours were typically reflective of the season offering up hues of black, grey, brown and beige (with the exception of a purple jersey dress and some traditional checks).

Hidden amongst the classic designs were also high neck jumpers, a velour kimono style wrap dress and satin blouses, all of which really gave an idea of what we classic girls can expect to wear next season. It’s just a shame we can’t get our hands on them now with the weather playing up so much.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Vivienne Westwood Red Label

By Andrea Petrou on February 22nd, 2010
Vivienne Westwood Red Label Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Modern styles with a traditional tartan twist were the order of the day for Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label show.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

The much loved designer, whose shows are always a must see at LFW, sent models down the catwalk last night in stiff puffball style dresses and skirts in pink tartan as well as blue and orange. And these fabrics carried on into leggings and wide legged trousers.

However it wasn’t just Westwood’s favourite fabric that made this show spectacular with other models rocking the runway in classic Westwood eclectic punk style t-shirts and dresses combined with bright tights and thigh high boots.

But our favourite outfit of the night has got to be the white feather jacket and skirt, which because of the stripped elastic cuffs also has an almost tennis feel about it, although we don’t think we’d be able to get away with it on a court.

LFW: Matthew Williamson

By Andrea Petrou on February 21st, 2010
Celebrity Front Row Day 3 - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Celebrities turned out in their droves today to watch Matthew Williamson’s offerings for autumn/winter 2010.

Yasmin Le Bon and Sienna Miller, looking gorgeous, took the front seat alongside friend Twiggy to watch the designers show, which consisted of fur, silks, leather, beads and wool.

Structured wool dresses made an appearance on the runway as well as fun bright skirts
cape-style tops and gilets.

And the designers smarter collections such as tapered trousers, bolero jackets and just over the knee and evening dresses also made an impact consisting of sparkling and glittery fabrics topped with beading.

But the show wasn’t all glitz and glam with Mr Williamson reintroducing his graphic prints as well as mixing colours we wouldn’t have even thought about including salmon pink.

We’ll be bringing you pictures as we get them.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Sass and Bide

By Andrea Petrou on February 20th, 2010
Sass & Bide Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

We were really excited about Sass and Bides LFW show and we’re pleased to say, that despite a few mishaps in previous years, the designer really impressed this season.

The Australian designers pulled out all the fashion stops last night bringing us a range of clothing with an ethnic aztec twist.

Sass & Bide Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Tailored little black (and white) dresses were given beaded detail around the waist, while loose fitting trouser suits and tunics made of chiffon were given a zebra print theme and adorned with beading, giving them a tribal look.

Sass & Bide Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

However the designer also gave a nod to the 80s (yes it seems that look is set to stay into Autumn) with slashes across some of their creations sleeves and also with a range of bodycon dresses.

The range was accessorise with fur and feathers.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Paul Costelloe show

By Andrea Petrou on February 19th, 2010
Paul Costelloe Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Paul Costelloe once again opened London Fashion Week today with a stunning collection.

The Dublin born designer, kicked off what will be a sombre, yet exciting week with puffball and Victorian style Crinoline skirts (although the length was a much shorter, updated version of the ones you would have found in that era) in tweed, satin and jacquard fabrics.

Paul Costelloe Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Costelloe also kept the Victorian theme going with brocade fabrics and corset style tops in checked fabrics as well as integrating leg-o mutton sleeves in with dresses and blouses.

Coats gave a nod to the military theme, but were softened with the use of jacquard fabrics and tweed.

However one thing we love about this designers creations is, that apart from a few out there designs such as structured high necks and of course the crinoline skirts, the collection is pretty much wearable.

Paul Costelloe Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

Leather, PVC and satin trousers were a few of the designs to hit the catwalk as well as puffed sleeves, wasistcoats and sequins (we’re pleased to see that these trends will be staying well into Autumn considering our wardrobes are full of these).

And this is definitely something that makes Paul Costelloe really stand out from the LFW crowd.
