Steal her style: Rachel Bilson’s Showtime TCA Party look

By emilyborrett on August 4th, 2011

Rachel Bilson's style shone through in these tapered red-pink trousers, with a slouchy floral shirt and contrasting leopard-print heels. She's still got it!

Rachel Bilson’s been so quiet on the acting front recently that we completely forgot she’s one of our favourite dressers like, ever. When we spotted her cool smart-casual outfit that she wore to the CBS, the CW and the Showtime TCA Party yesterday we just knew that we’d have to do a post about it.

Clashing and contasting prints are going to be a massive trend this Autumn, something that clever Rachel has wised up to. She teamed up a sizzling pair of cerise tailored trousers with a slouchy dark floral blouse and some leopard-print Louboutins – something that on paper shouldn’t work at all but on her really, really does.

There are some pretty much identical pieces on the high street – yay! You can replicate Rachel Bilson’s amazing party outfit by looking at our picks in the gallery above.

Gift ideas for…. your house-proud friend

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2010

By Emily Borrett.

Carrying on with the gift galleries that we’re doing  in the run-up to Christmas (10 days left!), I really wanted to do one on homewares. Ever since a Christmas shopping trip to Liberty in Carnaby Street on Sunday, I’ve been haunted with images of teapots, rugs, furniture and mirrors that I will never in this lifetime be able to afford. With programmes like Kirstie’s Homemade Home on our screens at the moment, it’s never been cooler to get into interiors and making our homes special.

And so, in honour of interior-lovers everywhere (please get in touch, I’m lonely), here’s a gallery with some of the best Christmas buys for that person in your life that likes making their home beautiful. To see my favourites, check the gallery below.

Whittard of Chelsea is one of the most iconic names associated with British tea-drinking everywhere, and this teapot will be a beautiful piece for anyone's kitchen.

Liberty: brighten up your day with their trademark prints

By emilyborrett on July 9th, 2010

Just as Audrey Hepburn famously declared that she was “simply crazy about Tiffany’s”, I’m equally crazy about the Liberty store in Carnaby Street, London. For a few years now its been an annual tradition for me, my mum and my sister to go there in our Sunday best for hours of window shopping, followed by tea and cake in one of its’ tearooms. And it really does take hours to fully do the rounds. If you’ve never been before, it’s worth the train into London – it’s a huge, grand, multi-storey building full of beautiful things to gawp at, from hand-made jewellery, stationary and clothes, to chandeliers, rugs and other homeware. Unfortunately I’m not really to be trusted on the higher floors where the most expensive items are kept, because I’m so clumsy (if I remember correctly, last time I was there I almost knocked over a crystal bowl worth about £1,000 with my bag). However, whilst many of the items on sale in Liberty are way beyond any budget of us little folk, you can still pick up something in one of their iconic prints for a reasonable price.

The famous Liberty prints, which have been in production since the 1960s, are a riotous explosion of psychelic paisleys that have never gone out of fashion; they’re completely evocative of the spirit of 1960s Carnaby Street, one of the most famous sites in London. Even a little piece from Liberty is an exciting splash of colour – some of my favourites of their smaller, more affordable pieces were their luggage tags, keyrings and notebooks (I’m a sucker for a pretty notebook) in the shop’s unmistakeable prints and patterns. My personal favourite out of their prints was the pink peacock-fan print, as I felt girly and summery just looking at it.

If you want to inject some Liberty-style splashes of colour into your life, look at the gallery below for the best of their little bits, perfect for a Carnaby girl on a budget.

Get down to Libertys’ vintage sale this evening

By Andrea Petrou on May 7th, 2010

We all like an early Friday after work drink, and we’re sure many of you are packing up as we type this. But those who are still around will be pleased they put in some extra graft.

Instead of hitting the pub tonight get yourself down to Libertys, which is throwing open the doors to its heritage suite on the third floor and hosting a vintage sale.
Judging by Libertys’ designs of old it’s going to be good.

Proceeds go to charity and prices start at £10 meaning you’ll have lots of money to go spend down the pub after. But hurry because it closes at 7!

The sale is on from 12pm till 7pm so what more reason to leave work early do you need?
