London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony

By Andrea Petrou on August 13th, 2012

There’s only one topic hot on our glossed lips this morning and that’s of course the Olympics closing ceremony that took place last night.

We know parts of it may not have been perfect but the bits that were blew us away, especially the fashion. We loved the newspaper print dresses and skirts shown at the beginning, while the billowing dresses worn by the Brazilian dancers were enough to give Lady Gaga a run for her money.

Of course the Spice Girls wowed, each going going back to their statement original style. Victoria Beckham went for a LBD- of course- while Emma Bunton looked cute in a 60s number.

Kate Moss also made an appearance in a cute sequined number, while Jessie J went for a traditional bling catsuit for her appearance.

And let’s not forget Kate Middleton who looked hot in a blue floral frock by highstreet favourite Whistles. If you think you’ve seen it before then you’re correct. The Duchess also wore it at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert.

See all the fashion in the gallery below.

London 2012 Olympic nail art

By Andrea Petrou on August 10th, 2012

If you’re the kind of girl who hates sport and can’t even get excited about the Olympics then there’s something that may appeal to your fashion side when it comes to this event.

And that’s the gorge nail art that many of the female competitors have been sporting. The art showcased by the likes of Victoria Pendleton, Rebecca Adlington and Destinee Hooker, has gone from simple country flags to all out bright gold talons, and makes that medal receiving ceremony worth a watch, no matter how much you hate sport.

See the gallery below for our top picks.

Sporty style spotlight: Olympic 2012 swimmer Keri-Anne Payne

By Andrea Petrou on August 6th, 2012

Earlier this year Keri-Anne Payne bagged herself  the new face of Max Factor’s False Lash Effect Gold mascara title.

The Olympic swimmer, who we doubt will be wearing the product in the pool, gained the position at the make up brand after marketing top dogs spotted her feisty style, and we can see why.

In sporty mode Keri-Anne wears her swimming costume with style, as well as rocking the tailor made tracksuits.

However, away from the pool her style is more feminine consisting of long dresses for a special occasion, and jeans for a causal look.

See the gallery below for Keri-Anne’s style.

Sporty style spotlight: Olympic 2012 track cyclist Victoria Pendleton

By Andrea Petrou on August 3rd, 2012

Track cyclist Victoria Pendleton has been one to watch both on and off the track.
As well as proving to be a top competitor at London 2012, the starlet has signed a deal with
Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek. She claims that the hair product is the secret to her swooshy, frizz-free locks, claiming:  “Training outside everyday means the elements can play havoc with my hair, however the Smooth & Sleek range helps fight frizz and keeps my hair looking and feeling the healthiest it’s been.”

And it’s not just her hair that’s making waves, with Victoria’s style being a huge hit with us here at Shiny Towers.

A fan of red, the cyclist has been spotted in a range of frocks ranging from long to 50s short in this hue.

And whilst her fellow GB star Jessica Ennis hides her figure, Victoria isn’t afraid to flaunt it with a range of slinky bodycon dresses, tight skirts and cute blazers.

Great sportswoman, great style and great hair…is there anything Victoria doesn’t have?

See the gallery below for Victoria’s style file.

Well Kate Middleton certainly looked the part as she visted the Olympic site in her capacity as an ambassador for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. She specifically requested to meet the hockey team as she enjoyed playing the sport on the left wing at her school, Marlborough College.

The Duchess met team captains Kate Walsh and Barry Middleton, who joked that he was always asked if he was a relation, as well as Emily Maguire and Niall Stott. Picking up a stick for the first time since leaving school, she took three shots from the left hand side of the goal – all missed – and then moved to a central position, where she actually hit the target.

Afterwards Kate Walsh said: ‘Actually she was really good. She told me that she missed playing as part of a team.

‘She also told me that she used to hit the penalty corners and you could see that. She got low and her shots were really sweet.

‘We put her too far out to the left on goal but we was determined to keep going until she got one in.

‘It takes a bit of getting used to after such a long time away from the game.’

As she left, the Duchess said: ‘I really hoped to be here, I would love to see you play in the games.

‘Now I have seen the set up and got to see behind the scenes it would be really exciting to come back and see everyone in action. Good luck with everything.’

Great Britain’s men’s and women’s teams are both ranked fourth in the world, and with six weeks to go until final squad selection, are considered serious medal prospects.
