On Tuesday September 18th, British designer Duro Olowu showed his second-ever runway collection during London fashion week. The Nigerian-born designer created a collection of bell-sleeve trapeze dresses, gingham blouses, busy prints, ruffled necklines, and jade, jade, jade. The collection was pulled together nicely and very consistent, but the clashing prints on some items aren’t for everybody and it’s more likely the nicely tailored jackets and pants will sell to a wider audience.
Gemma, Kim, Iso, and Laura are done (until spring that is) experiencing all the glamor that is Fashion Week, and finally getting the well-deserved rest they’ve been missing. Catch the final day of coverage by Catwalk Queen of London Fashion Week. Plus, check out some of my favorite posts below:
The fashion elite came out to pay tribute to Isabella Blow yesterday at a special London Fashion Week memorial service. Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and the always colourful Zandra Rhodes joined designers, models and even royalty (Princess Beatrice and mum Fergie) to honor the late, great British stylist who passed away in May. Although many questioned the whereabouts of Alexander McQueen who was essentially discovered by Blow and failed to appear.
Last Tuesday, September 11th, Shiny Style reported that Christopher Kane had won the designer of the year award at the Scottish Fashion Awards. Now we learn that winning that prize must have been very bittersweet for him. According to Fashion Week Daily, Kane and his sister were on their way to the fashion awards when they stopped by Kane’s East End studio, only to discover that it had been burglarized. The burglar bypassed two security code protected doors in order to steal twenty-three pieces from his upcoming collection, mostly cashmere and leather, along with a laptop. Kane’s spring collection premiered today during London fashion week, so it’s safe to say his team was able to work around the clock until to recreate the stolen looks.
It’s time for your favorite ShinyStylistas to take a bit of a breather from running around to fashion shows and allow the ladies of London to do the legwork. Gemma Cartwright, Kim Foster and the rest of the Catwalk Queen girls will be delivering the best of London Fashion Week just for you, and ShinyStyle will be one of the first to have it stateside – like this Paul Costello runway review. Plus, with our killer connections, you’ll get reviews and designer info you can’t read about on Style.com. So Anglophiles and fashion addicts, keep checking back!
Catwalk Queen’s Gemma Cartwright was lucky enough to sit down with designer Matthew Williamson before London Fashion Week at the Canon “We Speak Image” event. Williamson is celebrating his 10 year anniversary and so is returning to London after five years showing in New York. While we’ll miss having him stateside, we’re excited for all of CQ’s exclusive London Fashion Week coverage which we’ll of course be keeping you updated on here at ShinyStyle.
