Carrying on with our archive galleries of our very favourite designers and their best designs, today we’re going to look at Louis Vuitton, one of France’s most loved and celebrated design houses. Even if you’re not familiar with their collections, you’ll probably know what their luxury handbags and luggage looks like – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to some truly gorgeous work.
We’ve got a lot to thank Louis Vuitton for – three cheers for the fashion house that brought womanly curves back into vogue with a now unforgettable Autumn/Winter 2010 collection, which featured the likes of Lara Stone and Elle MacPherson wiggling down the runway in staggeringly sexy nipped-in 1950s dresses and two-piece suits. And thus the ladylike trend was born, one of the most flattering trends to have surfaced for a while.
We also fell hard for their 2011 spring/summer collection which showed an opulent range of oriental-inspired silk prints, and their delightfully silly 2010 collection filled with florals, bows, fluff and afro wigs galore. This is truly a fashion house that never fails to surprise us. Have a look at our favourite LV moments in the gallery above.

Flat Yellow Lace Print Washbag
Every mum wants a beautiful washbag for holidays and little trips away - while this Liberty-print washbag is a little more luxurious than your average Boots one, it's still not an extravagant price.
If you’re anything like me then Mother’s Day has a horrible habit of sneaking up of you, leaving you in a cold sweat resorting to Shell Garage flowers at 11 p.m. the night before. This year to avoid cold sweats in the middle of the night and disappointed reproach from your lovely long-suffering mum, why not plan ahead and order her something amazing right now? For a beautifully packaged little gift that will make her gasp and keep her sweet, there’s not many shops to buy from that will win you as many brownie points as Liberty’s of London.
The big daddy of home and interiors design, Liberty’s is the place to find small, beautiful gifts that will make your mum smile and feel special. Whether it’s a small ornately decorated piece of china, a gorgeous notebook or something little for the kitchen, there’s a gift to suit every mother. Your dear old ma brought you into the world – why not treat her to something from London’s finest department store?

"Fashion Now Vol 2" by Terry Jones
This book, compiled by the editor of the legendary fashion magazine i-D, is an essential coffee-table placement for any fashion lover. You can find it online at Amazon.
Carrying on from last week, where we brainstormed up a gallery of the best girly gifts around this Christmas, we decided to give you our second installment – after all, Christmas shopping is a bit of a minefield, especially when you’re buying for a lady with discerning tastes. Today, it’s all about buying for that friend you have with her fingertip on the pulse of fashion. The one that never wears the same outfit twice, devours glossy magazines and refers to designers by their first names, as if they’re old friends.
So here’s an assortment of clothes, makeup and essential reading for the stern fashion-lover in your life. (I basically wrote this list for myself.) Check out the gallery above for our top buys.

Designers, Fashion News

Designers are handling the recession in a variety of ways, which they discussed at a panel on the topic of luxury at the Hammer Museum in L.A. Monday. The Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, for instance, have decided to stop selling pants.
“All anyone ever talks about is the economy, and we don’t sell our pants anyway,” Kate said. “So screw it. We won’t make them.”
The panel addressed making luxury clothing in an era when the consumer, even one who can afford it, it ill-inclined to purchase luxury goods. The answer seems to be redefinging luxury, something many in the fashion world (and beyond) have felt was necessary for some time now.

Our favorite luxury department store continues to celebrate its 100th anniversary in high style this season, but if you haven’t made it over to your local shop for the storewide events, there are still plenty of ways to join the party.
Neiman Marcus now brings us an elaborate presentation of food and recipes in the recently published Neiman Marcus Taste: Timeless American Recipes cookbook. Since this year marks the 100th Anniversary of the much-loved Neiman Marcus stores, the recently released Christmas Book 2007 is just a little extra special. For the first time ever, The Book can be viewed online with plenty of interactive components to take care of that wish-listing habit–for at least a week or two. Page your way through the table of contents at a touch of a button, and start plotting out your favorite furs, Hello Kitty watches, or stake out that Nancy Gonzalez tote. If that’s not enough dreaming for you, the Fantasy Gifts section allows for a quick trip into la-la land.

If you still haven’t picked out your favorite metallic shopper or over-sized tote for the season, there’s no better time to select your favorite companion than right before the holidays. Set aside the glitzy clutches and beaded miniaudieres for a moment, and take a look at the fresh collection from Kooba. Understated, yet chic, these over-sized totes are perfect for dressing up a weekend outfit at the shopping conquest du jour, or simply toting around at the post-work party. Kooba’s fall/winter collection this year brings us an assortment of ruched leather, python-embossed, and convertible bags, but it’s the metallic totes that are leading the way.
