This holiday season, Macy’s has a wonderful Holiday Shopping Guide with a stylish selection of looks for Office to Evening, the Casual Party, Cocktail Parties, and Black-tie Events. They offer dresses and skirt and top ensembles that will definitely get you noticed and maybe even stopped under the mistletoe. My favorite Office-to-evening outfit was the shimmering Gold Tommy Hilfiger Silk Pleated Skirt for $98.00 paired with a sophisticated sequin top like the INC International Concepts® Embellished Cutaway Top for $79–wear a black cardigan during work and then remove it afterward to let loose and party it up! The same goes for this sophisticated plum T Tahari Belted Satin Scoop-Neck Dress for $163.50. Continue over to the jump for more holiday apparel.

At her shop at 302 Bowery in Manhattan Tuesday night, designer
Patricia Field celebrated the launch of her new Barbie-inspired adult clothing and accessories lines with
Mattel Brands amidst a Barbie Dream House party theme. The bartenders were Ken doll-like men and the hors d’ houvres, a delectable selection of sweet, pink delights. Field’s collection is mostly targeting teens of the Baby Boomers, and will be available in stores in December.
Hot Topic will carry t-shirts and accessories for around $4 to $45.
Macy’s will be carrying the Barbie Luxe line exclusively, which will range from $58 to $200. To promote this special line, Field will be making an appearance at the Herald Square Macy’s December 6th. And of course, a sassy, red-haired Patricia Field Barbie doll will be premiering fall 2008.

Ah, cashmere, how we love you, let us count the five new ways. With everyone from Target to Kohl’s doing a cashmere line, the luxurious knit is no longer the exclusive province of the rich and snooty. Like everything, the democratization of cashmere does raise questions about comparative quality and if some things aren’t meant to be found at Costco, but when sweaters are this soft we don’t care.

What would we do without J.Crew for cashmere sweaters? One of Nina Garcia’s must haves in her “Little Black Book of Style,” the black turtleneck is always a safe bet when you’re making a bit of an investment. This 12-gauge knit sweater is $148.

In the November issue of Lucky Magazine, the editors tallied readers’ votes and added their own ratings of the top stores for everything fashion. Nordstrom was voted the best department store overall with Macy’s as a close second. Barney’s New York, however, was rated the best department store overall by the Lucky crew. The best chain store rated by readers overall was Gap, but Nine West was rated best for shoes by both groups, Victoria’s Secret for lingerie, Sephora for Beauty and H&M for Hot-off-the-runway clothes. As for online retail sites, Shopbop.com was voted the best young-designer site, Eluxury.com was best luxury site, Zappos.com the top site for shoes, and Bluefly.com the number one bargain site.

Of course you can already find styles like this “Tommy Hilfiger tartan empire waist dress, $159, at Macy’s stores. But soon your selection of Tommy sportswear will increase when you walk into a Macy’s and decrease everywhere else as the two firms have inked an exclusive deal. WWD calls this a “bold move” on the part of Hilfiger and are hopeful that this will mean Americans see more of the upscale products that have fueled the brand’s European popularity. We also hope it will help Macy’s tepid sales, as we’re big fans of the department store. But don’t worry, Tommy will still operate their own stand-alone stores and sell on their Web site.

Shop It to Me is almost like your own personal shopper. And at the same time, like going to a sample sale, only you don’t have to leave the house unless you know your favorite clothes are on sale in your size! When you sign in, you pick your favorite brands like Ann Taylor, Brooks Brothers, Prada, DKNY, Armani, Juicy Couture and BCBG. They read through websites of top retailers such as Macy’s, Saks, Bloomie’s, Gap and Bluefly to find your faves in your size. You can receive daily, weekly, or semi-weekly emails that only alert you if they find what is on sale in your size.

Television

In the latest “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”, Tim and Veronica help out a married mom of two, Nicole, to take time for herself and dress with confidence. Nicole seemed to think she was flabby (not so!) Tim made Nicole toss out all her capri pants, which were her ‘uniform.’ Tim says a uniform is fine, provided it works for you. And for Nicole, it did not. Nicole also had a hard time taking any time for herself, even enjoying a pedicure was too much because she felt she could be doing mom-things. Tim reminded Nicole that a good foundation is needed, something I think will appear in each episode. Nicole was outfitted appropriately, and then off to Macy’s where they went to shop (Lucky!)
