Vogue Italia’s Twitter-themed cover

By lotte on December 4th, 2009

Vogue Italia.jpg It seems that the Twitter trend is spreading to the world of glossy fashion magazines. Italian Vogue have never been afraid to take risks with their content and covers, as their issue featuring only black models this summer proved. For December they’re producing an issue inspired by Twitter and Twitpic.

The cover features Gisele, Lara Stone, Christy Turlington, Kasia Struss and Natalia Vodianova in photos they took themselves. Glimpses of the editorial inside show a Twitpic-style spread, shot by Stephen Meisel and called MeiselPic, with models casually posing and having fun in what will probably turn out to be really expensive clothes.

Considering a lot of models are already avid Twitterers – Jessica Stam and Chanel Iman regularly update theirs – is Vogue Italia ridiculing their tendency to reveal too much, or just jumping on the Twitter bandwagon?

We’re not sure, but one thing it made us all-too-aware of is how, sadly, we’re never going to look as good as these models in our own uploaded photos. Sigh.

Chanel Iman makes Minnie Mouse a style icon in Vogue Germany

By lotte on November 18th, 2009

Chanel Iman 2.jpg Bunny ears have been getting hotter and hotter in recent months, with stars like Madonna being spotted in Louis Vuitton versions, and Lily Allen and the Olsen twins in Maison Michel ears. It seems like a trend that naturally follows on from the massive bows we’ve been seeing on models’ heads in previous catwalk shows (and in the high street). This time, of-the-moment model Chanel Iman has been featured in a spread wearing bows, bunny ears and oversized polka dots in an homage to adorable Disney star Minnie Mouse.

Topshop are currently selling three different type of bunny ears(!), so you can try and find a way to wear them. We wouldn’t recommend pairing them with red and white polka dots, but they might be a kooky addition to an otherwise grown-up outfit. Buy them here, here and here.

Do you still read Vogue?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on January 1st, 2009

The New York Times has an interesting critique of Vogue magazine today which got us thinking, how relevant is Vogue today? Is it still the most relevant fashion magazine in print? And if so, does that mean much?

Cathy Horyn writes about the fact that Anna Wintour chose to print a letter to the editor in this month’s issue which accurately describes Vogue’s main problem – that it’s in a rut. The same cover girls and “muses” are recycled over and over, albeit with often fantastic writing, editing and photography.

So we’re wondering, internet and fashion-savvy blog readers that you are, do you still read Vogue magazine?
