Nicola Roberts helps design solo shoes

By Andrea Petrou on May 23rd, 2011

Nicola Roberts has helped design the shoes she will wear to launch her solo career.

The Girls Aloud star collaborated with up-and-coming designer Atalanta Weller to create the wedged footwear she wears on her promotional shots and Atalanta admits she was very hands-on.

She told vogue.co.uk: “A collaboration is like a good conversation. Nicola came to my studio a couple of times and I went to hers; we initially chatted about her music, the forthcoming album and how this related to her vision for the shoes. I went away and started designing my response to this. After our first meeting I was excited by her ideas and collaborating with people who have a strong vision is really fantastic. Nicola considers everything she does really carefully and has a totally clear view of what she wants to achieve. While the shoes are just a small part of this, I knew it would be interesting and fun to work together.”

Although Atalanta admits they were an unlikely pairing, she said they worked very well together.

She said: “I think we are an unlikely pairing which is why I was intrigued when Nicola approached me about working together. I think that she has incredible style and she’s extremely distinctive, luxurious and original in the way she wears clothes. I have not collaborated like this before and the fact that it was for the launch of Nicola’s solo music career meant we could be quite experimental. Everything was new and fresh.”

Kate Middleton wants to look natural on her wedding day.

By Andrea Petrou on April 28th, 2011

Kate Middleton wants to look natural on her wedding day.

The brunette beauty will tie the knot with Prince William at London’s Westminster Abbey tomorrow (29.04.11) and while all eyes will be on her, the only person she is keen on impressing is her future husband.

So she has told her hairstylist not to stray too far from her normal look when it comes to her tresses as she wants William to recognise her.

Richard Ward – who owns the London salon responsible for styling Kate’s hair as well as her mother Carole and sister Pippa – said: “We’ve had many practice runs – and not just with Kate. The one rule is by the time she gets to the end of the altar her husband must recognise her.’

“The look will be natural.”

Richard – whose star snipper James Pryce will be the main stylist – also said he has been inundated with girls wanting their hair like Kate’s ever since her engagement was announced.

He is quoted by the Mail Online website as saying: “A lot of girls wanted it, especially a lot of Americans. We have a lot of people from America coming in. How Kate wears her hair typifies how you should be wearing your hair today, it’s a very natural look. It needs to gleam with health, it needs to shine, needs really deep rich colour.

“Kate and her family have been coming for eight years and we’ve got a relationship that goes back a long time. We’re lucky because she has amazing hair.”

Erin O’ Connor doesn’t follow fashion trends

By Andrea Petrou on April 20th, 2011

Erin O’ Connor doesn’t follow fashion trends because they bring out people’s “insecurities”.

The 33-year-old model prefers to stick to clothes she knows suit her rather than wearing the latest styles and wishes everyone had her confidence to wear what they want.

She explained: “I have a default style. Ironically I have never coped with trends very well. I am much more of a classic dresser. I have always felt trends bring out all sorts of insecurities.

“I feel once you have got to grips with your body shape, it is best that you continue to dress with what suits you and what you feel good in.

“That’s the most important thing – there is nothing wrong with wanting to go out dresses as a peacock every now and then, as long as you are simply feeling the moment.”

While Erin likes to keep fit, she refuses to push herself too hard when it comes to exercise because she believes it can be destructive.

She told the Daily Record newspaper: “I do feel that self-acceptance is very difficult when we are all aspiring to be one certain shape, which is why I am never too hard on myself when I exercise.

“It’s easy to forget that models are people too and it is easy for people to criticise.”

Katy Perry’s six hour make up regime

By Andrea Petrou on April 1st, 2011

Katy Perry found it “hard” having make-up put on for six hours at a time for her new music video ‘E.T.’.

The 26-year-old beauty – who is well known for her love of extravagant stage costumes and loud make-up – didn’t enjoy getting prepared for her new promotional work but taught herself to be patient.

She told MTV News: “It was, like, five and six hours, each make-up look.

“It was hard for me! It was really a patience thing for me on this video. But you know, it’s like when you’re doing a film. Sometimes you have to do prosthetics and you have to get really old or turn into an animal or a monster – and that’s kind of what this process was.”

Despite the time it took to get into the outfits it did not take her as long to get out of them, saying it took “like, 10 minutes” to do so.

Katy – who is married to comedy actor Russell Brand – recently became the face of hair straightening brand ghd, promoting a range of products for the British company.

She said: “I’m so excited to be working with ghd, especially using their tools on my ‘California Dreams’ tour to get me stage ready. ghd products have a reputation of being the best products in the biz, and I like being associated with that. I’m very excited to reveal the styles I did with legendary David LaChapelle in the upcoming ghd campaign. Keep your eyes peeled for it!”

Cheryl Cole takes two hours to get ready for a red carpet event

By Andrea Petrou on March 29th, 2011

Cheryl Cole takes two hours to get ready for a red carpet event.

The stunning singer says she likes to take her time when she goes to glamorous events as she wants to look her best as well as really enjoying the process.

She said: “I don’t think I’m a high-maintenance girl once I’m out and about, it’s getting ready that’s the problem – it takes me a couple of hours to get red carpet ready. But I love the process of going from wet hair to the end result.”

However, it doesn’t matter whether Cheryl is hitting the red carpet or just going out for drinks with friends, there are certain beauty items she always uses.

When asked what she carries in her handbag, the 27-year-old beauty – who is the face of cosmetics firm L’Oreal – told Britain’s Hello! magazine: “I always have Glam shine lip gloss because it’s easy to put on and you don’t need a mirror, which is handy because I always forget to have a mirror in my bag.

“I carry Telescopic, the mascara I use, and my perfume, which I change all the time. At the moment I use a Jo Malone one, Nectarine and Honey. And a hairbrush.”

By Andrea Petrou on March 16th, 2011

Tyra Banks gets up three hours early so she has time to work out and put on her make-up.

The 37-year-old model-and-television presenter is currently studying at Harvard Business School and admitted she rises at 4.45am in order to get ready to meet her study group at 7.30am every morning.

She explained: “I have to work out and eat breakfast beforehand and get ready and be a female. But in the end, I never would have had it any other way. I have made life-long friends among my classmates.”

Meanwhile the busy entrepreneur has today (15.03.11) launched her own beauty and style website, TypeF, where women can input their vital statistic and every time they log on, are greeted with content matched to their physical characteristics

Tyra explained to USA Today: “We decided to keep a blank slate for women to fill in what that F means to them. It’s done with humor and fun. It’s a very specific voice. TypeF is saying, ‘No, you are good enough. You deserve to wear that trend too.’”

Nicola Roberts launches her Dainty Doll make-up range

By admin on August 24th, 2010

Pale has become the new “tanned” with many of us shunning the orange streaky look in favour for our natural glow. Previous icons such as orangutan Katie Price and streaky Paris Hilton have been replaced with pale natural beauties including Nicola Roberts, who today launched her new make-up range, Dainty Doll, for girls with fair complexions at Harrods today.

The Girls Aloud starlet, looked gorgeous in a cute “Doll” motif tee, which she tucked into a pink satin maxi skirt. She finished her look with striking red lips and and eye make-up.

‘The reason behind me doing this is because I had a point of difference and that was because of the pale skin and it was something I obviously felt really passionate about,’ the Girls Aloud singer told Grazia.

‘I was aware that there weren’t many make up brands that catered for women for extra pale skin so I feel proud that I’ve been the person to do it.’

ShinyStyle watch: Scarlett Johansson for D&G make-up

By Andrea Petrou on April 30th, 2010

Scarlett make up D&G.jpg
It was only yesterday that we featured Scarlett Johansson in our models versus celebrity face-off after some designers said they would go back to using models over A-List stars in their campaigns.

However, we think perhaps we were a little bit too hasty to agree because Scarlett looks amazing in this latest campaign for Dolce & Gabbana Makeup campaign.

The star looks every inch the 50s chick with her Marilyn Monroe curls and we love the blue metallic shade she wears on her eyes. And she’s proved she’s most definitely a muse for the brand. D&G have named a colour in their Roses Lipstick collection Scarlett.

She said of the campaign: “I try to be inspired by old Hollywood glamour, whether that’s Rita Hayworth or Lauren Bacall.”
Watch behind the scenes footage and see what else Scarlett has to say about the campaign by viewing the video below.

Burberry to launch make-up range this July!

By Andrea Petrou on April 26th, 2010

Thumbnail image for burb.JPG
There’s nothing not to love about Burberry this season. From floaty florals to socks and sandals the design house is at the top of it’s game and judging by it’s AW2010 show, which gave us a range of aviation trends, we know we’ll be loving it all the way through to Christmas too.

However, if it’s clothing range isn’t enough to get you drooling then the news that the iconic British brand is launching its first ever make-up range most definitely will.

Burberry’s creative director, Christopher Bailey, told WWD he wanted to launch the line after being frustrated with caked-on makeup in the wrong colours for his fashion shows. He said in order to solve this problem he had created a new range, which will contain 96 pieces inspired by the iconic Burberry trenchcoat, which is currently modelled by Emma Watson.

“Like the trenchcoat, it can be worn anywhere and at any time,” he told WWD.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the collection.

What make-up should the ‘I’m a Celebrity’ girls have taken into the Jungle?

By lotte on November 17th, 2009

I’m a Celebrity has kicked off once again on ITV1 and we’re addicted already. Most of us will probably be tuning in to watch Katie Price be subjected to a series of horrible trials, either enjoying it or feeling sorry for her, depending on which team you support. (I’m with Team Andre.) But there are five other women in the Australian outback as we speak. Allowed only one luxury item each, you can imagine how difficult the decision making process must have been for them: mascara or Vaseline? Blusher or concealer?

Jules Standish, a professional ‘colour consultant’ had a look at the female celebs in this year’s series and worked out what they should have decided to take with them.

Katie Price.jpg Katie Price: Unsurprisingly here, Jules would have given Katie a ‘big tube’ of fake tan, because her harsh black hair would look even worse against pale skin. We imagine Jordan snuck in a job lot of the stuff somehow.

Sam Fox.jpg Sam Fox: The ex-glamour model should have brought some mascara to “keep her lovely eyes sparkling”.

Sabrina Washington.jpg Sabrina Washington: Sabrina used to be in Mis-Teeq, one of those R&B bands that epitomised the early 2000s, but unfortunately for her, she’s now in a much less glamorous setting. According to Jules, Sabrina’s skintone needs ‘really strong colours’, so she’d give her some red lipstick.

Kim Woodburn.jpg Kim Woodburn: One half of Kim and Aggie, the How Clean is Your House star has already stripped off. Not a good idea, since her fair colouring needs to be kept out of the sun. Jules recommends tinted moisturiser to keep her skin glowing.

Lucy Benjamin.jpg Lucy Benjamin: Lucy had some less-than-glamourous moments on Eastenders, so she probably won’t mind being in the jungle without make-up. But if she did have some with her, Jules would prioritise ‘golden brown eyeshadow’ to bring out her eyes.

Camilla Dallerup.jpg Camilla Dallerup: Used to shedloads of make-up on the ballroom dancefloor, Camilla should be able to make do with blusher, says Jules. And she should stay out of the sun.
