10 Fashion brands to follow on Instagram: Burberry, ASOS, Mango and Gucci

By Elisabeth on October 21st, 2011

If you follow fashion – who am I kidding of course you do! – you’ll have noticed how Burberry were first with a tweetwalk during their show at this September’s London Fashion Week. Burberry has also been one of the many fashion brands embracing Instagram, the popular iPhone photo sharing app. And while we were busy noting the trends for Spring Summer 2012, Becca over on ShinyShiny had a look at which fashion brands are using Instagram in an interesting way to give their fans and followers a behind-the-scenes peek at the fast paces and highly aspirational industry.

The classic British brand is another Instagram favourite and already has more than 100,000 followers! The snaps are always beautifully shot and show you just what you can achieve with the app's great selection of filters.

ShinyShiny is also celebrating Instagram week and is running an easy to enter mobile photography competition with Orbitsound. All you have to do is take a photo with an Autumnal theme and share it on Twitter along with the hash tag #ShinyAutumn. It can be of a leaf or a Halloween costume, we really don’t mind. The winner will get a fabulous T12v3 speaker bar from Orbitsound and 19 runners up will get random iPhone related goodies.

Mango launches iPhone app

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Mango app.jpg

We’ve gone a tiny bit techie here at ShinyStyle recently, telling you about of a range of beauty and fashion iPhone apps which help you save time and money. And although we vowed to leave these over to the girls at ShinyShiny there’s always that one that we can’t resist telling you about. This time it’s Mango.

The Spanish highstreet store has launched a free app, which gives users the latest company news and stay informed of the latest promotions, while being given exclusive discounts.

You can also browse the virtual store assortment and buy clothing quickly, simply and safely. The Mix & Match section simulates a virtual Interactive fitting room where users can upload their own photos and dress up in Mango clothes, while snother section, Favourites, allows users to save their favourite garments in a virtual shopping basket shared with the mango.com website or save a look to purchase it later in store.

There’s also a directory and a store locator, which uses your current location to tell you where the closest Mango store is in case you can’t wait for that top or dress.

Mango & Scarlett’s 4th fashion adventure is given a firm thumbs up

By alanamcverry on April 20th, 2010

With summer on our heels, Mango has teemed up with Scarlett Johansson once again to produce the ‘summer light’ collection, now viewable online at www.mango.com. This new collection will get you grasping for the credit card and persuading yourself that these are essential purchases, and the only possible way you will get through the sweltering heat of the English summer. A stark contrast to the dark and vampishly sexy campaign of last season, Scarlett and Mango have enlisted the help of top photographer Mario Sorrenti to produce a campaign that showcases a collection that has something very different to say. Discarding the black leather and leopard print this time round, for pastel shades, and contrasts of simple silhouettes and feminine florals and frills. Not to mention plain pastels and paisley prints. Using a colour palette that clings to the lighter shades of blue, pink, off white and grey, the collection is undeniably summer and light. More importantly, in producing these fluid, soft, voluminous shapes with a country twist, comfort, femininity and style are brewed together into an unmissable concoction. Scarlett’s most versatile beauty leaves her almost unrecognisable in some of the photos, which should be appreciated as beautiful in their own right. Appearing natural with an almost dreamy quality, adds to the overall ethereal image of this seasons romance infused creations. My top items are the white lace dress at £119.90 (which looks like an expensive vintage find you just picked up in Paris last week) and the collection of platforms soon to be walking out of stores near you. If you are more of a flat shoe kind of gal, and assume that this makes summer your season for shopping, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. It seems to be all about the platform, so step up, or step out.

Browse the gallery below to see what both Mango and Scarlett have on offer…

Moises De La Renta designs t-shirt range for Mango

By Andrea Petrou on March 2nd, 2010

Moises.jpg

It’s not unusual for a child of a fashion designer to follow in their parents footsteps. However, the twist in Oscar De La Renta’s son’s story is that he’ll be going for highstreet rather than high end like his father.

Twenty five year old Moises has designed a limited edition range of T-Shirts for Mango, which are said to fuse his father’s timeless aesthetic with his own youthful rock ‘n’ roll edge.

The designer told Vogue.com: “My inspirations for this collection were the traditional romantic themes: from pretty patchworks with summer flowers in sombre colours, such as rose, violet, grey and black, to graphic illusions which combine transparent effects, with shiny gems and adornments in between.”

The t-shirts will go on sale this month and range from £25 to £45. We’re sure they won’t be hanging around for long though.

Scarlett Johansson designs a bag for Mango to help victims of the Haiti earthquake

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

We’re more than used to hearing about celebrities designing clothes and accessories for different stores, but we get really excited when they’re doing it for charity.

Stepping in to this category is Scarlett Johansson who has designed a bag for Mango and all profits raised will go directly to Oxfam to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Of her collaboration with the store she currently models for, Scarlett said: ‘I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. By purchasing this bag, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti.’

The bag, which will be sold in Mango stores for £16.90, has the message ‘Helping the people of Haiti’, plus the actress’s signature beside a print depicting an ancient map of the country.

We’ll be bagging ourselves one of these as soon as they hit the shelves in March.

Scarlett Johansson poses for Dolce and Gabbana fragrances

By Andrea Petrou on November 9th, 2009

Dolce & Gabbana Fragrance Scarlett.jpgScarlett Johansson is no stranger to the world of modelling and over the year has signed up for a range of lucrative shoots, including modelling a collection for Mango.

However, this time Scarlett has left the highstreet behind and taken on a far bigger project in the shape of Dolce and Gabbana.

The actress has become the new face of the brand’s The One and L’eau The One fragrances, and we’re sure you’ll agree, that once again she pulls off the shoot, shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, perfectly.

Zara announces online shopping site

By Andrea Petrou on September 25th, 2009

zara.jpgIf you’re a regular reader of ShinyStyle then you’ll know how much I love online shopping. It’s quick and easy and you can do it any time of the day.

I’ve been known to spend a fortune in the wee hours of the morning when insomnia has taken its toll (well beats watching re-runs of Jeremy Kyle).

However one shop I haven’t been able to attack is Zara. I’m not sure why but these Spanish brands don’t like to put their items online (Mango has only just recently made its fashions available to UK users through Asos).

But there’s good news (not for my credit card) as Zara has announced that it plans to launch a transactional website, so we can buy the Zara range online for the first time across Europe and the UK.

The estimated launch date for the retailer’s website is the middle of next year meaning we fashionistas will be able to buy the autumn/winter 2010 collection from the comfort of our beds.

Mango continues worldwide expansion with MNG Manhattan flagship

By Andrea Thatcher on November 27th, 2007

MNGNEWyorkma.jpg

British high fashion retailer Mango is trying to keep up with the worldwide expansion of it’s competitors, though it’s falling short behind fellow European shop Zara which already has 25 US stores. Our sister site Catwalk Queen reports that the new Manhattan flagship store features a 97-foot-long catwalk filled with mannequins surrounded by 80-year-old chairs which they rescued from an old cinema in Barcelona. Pretty cool!
