The stars were all out for a good cause last night in the Big Apple to celebrate the 25th anniversary of FINCA, an organisation that strives to create work opportunities and improve the standards of living for some of the world’s poorest.

The UK’s own Florence Welch was there looking like a sexy Victorian governess in a dramatic sweep of black draped velvet against snow-white skin and auburn hair – an alternative fashion beauty all the way. Viva Florence! It was only a matter of time before NYC decided to recognise the girl. Also there was cutting edge stylist Kate Young in an adorably oversized cream pussy-bow, teamed with a slouchy blazer and stonking heels, looking like a little kitten we want to take home and spoil. She was definitely giving her companion Jason Wu a run for his money (though you looked lovely in your suit as well, Jase, don’t worry.)

Representing those of the silver screen were Jake Gyllenhaal looking like Mr. Tom Ford in a classic black and white suit, and Adventureland star Margarita Levieva, who showed off her enviable curves in a demure navy tea dress that was neatly nipped in at the waist with a patent skinny belt. With a career that’s really only just beginning to take off, we’ve seen little of this actress, but her style tells us that we want to see more. Watch this fashion space.

However, the true star of the night was FINCA ambassador and actress Natalie Portman, who was looking breathtaking in a classic white minidress from Christian Dior. We’ve all been told by magazines and designers that the LWD (little white dress) is set to become the new classic LBD and, personally, I’ve been a little sceptical – but looking at how Natalie’s rocked the dress, maybe we should reconsider.

Controversial Calvin Klein billboard replaced by Doutzen Kroes in a bikini

By Kimberley Foster on June 26th, 2009

It didn’t take long (just enough time to achieve maximum exposure, I’m presuming) for Calvin Klein to pull it’s controversial jeans billboard in Manhattan. The company has instead replaced the “threesome” ad with a much less provocative shot of Doutzen Kroes in a red bikini. I’m sure this will come as a sight for sore eyes to many of the locals, namely of the male variety.

Heidi Klum reminds us what models without make-up really look like… the same!

Here is one thing that you probably don’t need reminding off – without make-up, stunningly gorgeous Heidi Klum is still… stunningly gorgeous. The host of Project Runway was snapped sans face at Manhattan’s Bar Pitti having some family time with the kids. Not only was she snapped without a bit of slap, but she was also seen chowing down on an ice-cream. Painful, isn’t it?

New York is about to be injected with a good ole’ dose of British retailing when the first Topshop US store opens on October 10th. Rolling out the first phase of his new ‘baby’ is Sir Philip Green, who arrived in Manhattan this week to begin publicity, and to scout out new sites. A design of the flagship store, located at 478 Broadway (pictured above) has also been unveiled. This coupled with a preview of Topshop’s and Topman’s fall collections, held at Industria Studios today, will help to officially kick things off.

Cipriani opens lavish NYC boutique

By Elaine LaPersonerie on October 18th, 2007

Giuseppe Cipriani has surely figured out how to entertain the rich and famous by creating lavish residential experiences and event venues—but has he also figured out how to operate a high-end boutique? Well, let’s hope so because his first flagship boutique will soon open in the Cipriani Club Residences on Wall Street in Manhattan. Due to crazy price tags, the boutique will carry luxe accessories that you and I most likely can’t afford. But friends of Cipriani like Naomi Campbell, Trump and Diddy should have no problem buying items like the yellow cowhide Cipriani suitcase for $9,400 or the chinchilla blanket for a whopping $40,000. At the very least it might be fun to window shop or pretend you can actually afford something. If you can’t BE a celebrity there’s no harm in acting like one!
