Marc Jacobs would consider working for Christian Dior in the future but has no plans to become the successor to John Galliano.
The Louis Vuitton designer’s name has frequently been mentioned as a replacement for the sacked Galliano but says he loves working for Louis Vuitton and doesn’t see himself leaving in the near future.
Marc said: “I am at Vuitton, and I am very happy there. I’ve been saying that for a long time. There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior. I don’t know; maybe someday in the future, maybe years from now, I may end up going someplace else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton, and all that matters to me is that that’s where I am and I’m going to keep doing my thing.”
Marc says he doesn’t need the challenge of moving to Dior and creating couture gowns because every season at Vuitton he tries to top what he has done before.
He explained to vogue.co.uk: “The irony in all of this is that I don’t dream of doing anything else, or I didn’t. My greatest challenge is to do something better than we’ve done the season before. The idea of couture doesn’t hold that thing for me. It’s archaic – in my opinion. I mean, I am really interested in the craftsmanship behind couture. But I can explore all that in ready-to-wear. With couture, one dress each season is photographed by a couple of magazines; there’s no advertising; it reaches 20 customers.
“I don’t feel there is anything lacking in what we do. I get to work with these amazing craftsmen. Maybe not the same ateliers that would make a couture dress, but, again, we are not in a deficit for working with people who create beautiful things. I am not sure I ever looked at couture as this great opportunity.”
Raf Simons is the latest name to emerge as the frontrunner for the head creative designer post at Dior.

Victoria Beckham at the British Fashion Awards at The Savoy in London - 28 November 2011
Victoria Beckham was embarrassed about her fashion pedigree when she had dinner with Marc Jacobs.
The former Spice Girls star – who is married to soccer star David Beckham – wasn’t always confident of her design abilities and admitted she was worried the sartorialist wouldn’t take her seriously.
She said: “We went out to dinner one night, and he said, ‘I saw that you put out a collection.’
“I felt embarrassed to tell Marc Jacobs that I – me, ex-Spice Girl, married to a footballer – was creating a fashion line.”
However, Victoria – who was recently “overwhelmed” to be presented with the Designer Brand of the Year gong at the British Fashion Awards – has since overcome her fears and now says she never worries about “proving” herself to other people.
She told America’s ELLE magazine: “People say to me, ‘Oh you’ve proved yourself to everybody…’ But that was never why I did this.
“I had a lot to prove to myself. I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of my team.
“I have to say I was not expecting to win and I was quite overwhelmed.
“I’ve never felt my heart beating so fast. I lost the ability to think or speak – my vocabulary just went out the window. It means so much to me.
“I had the most phenomenal team of people and I was up there on behalf of all of us and I really didn’t want to forget anyone. My mind was completely blank.”

Kelly Rowland won the X Factor judges style wars hands down when she turned up on Saturday night sporting the masculine trend.
The singer who has clearly taken inspiration from the likes of Burberry and Marc Jacobs looked hot in a black tux blazer, white shirt and skinny cigarette trousers teamed up with black court shoes.
To complete the look she kept her hair tied back in a bun. We absolutely love this look so we’ve scoured the highstreet to find the best bits to achieve this style.
See the gallery below for our faves.

The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have slammed Marc Jacobs’ ad campaign for his Oh, Lola fragrance which features 17-year-old actress Dakota Fanning. It has ruled that the “sexually provocative” magazine ad that shows Dakota Fanning sitting on the floor wearing a pale coloured short dress with an Oh Lola perfume bottle between her thighs, is “irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence.” They have also decided that Dakota looks under the age of 16 to back up their decision.
The ad, which was photographed by Juergen Teller, appeared in magazines in August and received four complaints which made the ASA take action.
The young Hollywood star was chosen by fashion designer Jacobs to be a “contemporary Lolita” after being inspired by her appearance as a 15-year-old punk rock ringer in the film ‘The Runaways’.

In response to the ban, Jacobs released a statement which said:
“It was our pleasure to work with Dakota Fanning for the Oh, Lola campaign. She is a smart, pretty, interesting, talented young woman, and we would never have suggested an advertising concept that we thought was inappropriate. I believe she is also very thoughtful about the projects she takes on and would not have done something that she felt was in questionable taste. It’s really unfortunate that people have taken anything negative from what we believe is a really good campaign, and one that so perfectly embodies the fragrance.”
Fine, Dakota does look quite young so we do understand the ASA’s reasons, but surely this isn’t the most provocative of ads out there?

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2012
It is undisputable that Mr Marc Jacobs is the king of fashion right now. With his own hugely successful self-titled lines, as well as creative directorship at Louis Vuitton and rumours that he may also be taking over Dior, he’s got a finger in every one of the yummiest fashion pies right now.
Yesterday’s Marc for Marc Jacobs show at NYFW was one of the hottest tickets around – it always is – and the Tattooed One didn’t let us down with a cool collection of sportswear-inspired casual pieces. Each piece was beautifully simple with a modern, clean feel to it that reminds us of European designers such as Jil Sander, mixing utilitarian slate-greys with little splashes of Crayola colour here and there for a playful twist.
There was a clear “boyfriend” vibe about the collection as Jacobs had opted for masculine, simple styles that when worn looked like they might have been pinched from a fashionable boyfriend’s wardrobe. From crisp, oversized shirt dresses to pink-and-white striped short suits, it seemed to us to be a very masculine take on casual womenswear.
Our favourite thing about the collection were the accessories – Monsieur Jacobs is, after all, the king of accessory design – fresh 90s-style hi-top trainers in childish, primary colours which added a carefree twist to some of the more austere-looking designs.
Viva Marc! Check out the gallery above to see the new Marc for Marc Jacobs collection.

Burberry Prorsum
A double-breasted trench coat in a caper green that hits the spot.
Even though it’s only the end of August, it’s getting colder in the UK and all of my lazy-student instincts are telling me to go and get under the covers and sleep until winter is over.
I have to say, I hate the cold weather, with a passion – I am definitely a summer girl. So one of my little pick-me-ups when summer is over is to start planning new, fashionable ways to wrap up warm, and nothing can update or transform an outfit like a pair of great fashion tights or socks.
Marc Jacobs used a lot of polka dot hosiery in his Autumn/Winter collection, something that the high street has picked up on and copied. For a girlish Minnie Mouse look, team a pastel-coloured midi skirt with Asos’ nude polka-dotted ankle socks with a pair of high heels in the milder months – when it gets colder, go for a pair of polka-dot tights instead.
Another sexy hosiery trend is the sex-siren look that we saw on the fetish-inspired catwalk of Louis Vuitton, where it was all about peekaboo black underwear with tight corsetry, fur and terrifying heels. Asos have an amazing pair of 40s-style seamed stocking with tiny sparkle details on them for a pin-up feel. Just wear them with a leather skirt and a prim blouse and you’ve got a sizzling hot fashion look to go.
Or if you just want to keep your tootsies warm during the evenings, try a cute pair of statement socks – we absolutely adore Urban Outfitter’s lace mohair ankle socks, which are just so pretty and feminine.
Check out the gallery above to see our favourite tights and socks for this Autumn.

Bow Pleated Soft Shift Dress
This dress is so Marc Jacobs it's untrue - the ultimate first-date dress. With a chunky cardigan and a pair of vintage ankle boots, you're good to go. Find it here.
I absolutely love putting together Shiny’s fashion hot-list for the week, because for me it is basically an excuse to go window-shopping and compile a mental list of all the things that I want, nay, need the most. This week the hot-list is a merry mash of different prints, textures and styles – but did you expect any different from me?
I’m in a bit of a “back to school” mode this week which is looking towards Autumn and the weather getting colder, so I’m daydreaming about new tights, new knitwear and new bags to put all off my books in. I was especially taken with Oasis’ dreamily soft-looking pale pink tea dress with a sparkled collar detail, which is so like the Marc Jacobs design that it’s untrue. That dress is going on my list, along with a chunky cardigan and some cute ankle boots to go along with it.
My ultimate buy for the week? It has to be the Sam Edelman slipper shoes from Urban Outfitters. Slipper-style loafer shoes are massive this Autumn because they spell luxury and comfort, and you can’t get any more luxurious than this designer pair, which is covered in black gemstones and studs. So delightfully rock and roll.
Check out the gallery above for our top buys for the week.

The designer Marc Jacobs has gushingly spoken out about his admiration for the supermodel Kate Moss, who closed his fetish-inspired Louis Vuitton runway show this season to much applause.
Marc puts Kate’s enduring success and popularity as a model down to her “unique” and “huge” presence – according to the designer there are not many models like Kate.
Jacobs told Vogue: “I mean Kate is, besides being physically beautiful and an incredibly charismatic and extraordinary personality, just very rare – if not totally unique. Kate can be just Kate, and the presence is just huge. She fills space, indoor and outdoor, studio space and pages, with such life. That energy really comes through in any and everything that she does.”
It sounds to us like Marc’s got a bit of a girl-crush on Kate, but can you blame him? This is one of our favourite friendships within the fashion industry.

BREAKING FASHION GOSSIP! The Brazilian website Glamurama claims to have spoken to sources close to Bernard Arnault, the chairman of LVMH, and gleaned the gossip that super-designer Marc Jacobs is hotly tipped to leave his position at Louis Vuitton to become creative director of Christian Dior
There’s been an awful lot of speculation over who would take over Christian Dior following John Galliano’s disgracing – Azzedine Alaia and Riccardo Tisci have both been considered – but we have to say the idea of Arnault encouraging Marc to take over Dior is an incredibly exciting thought.
The site claims: “The two have met often in recent weeks to discuss the matter. Jacobs, the current creative director of Louis Vuitton, renewed his contract with LVMH in January – and it is possible for him to continue in his current position even if he takes over Dior. More likely, however, is that he’ll end up choosing between one of two. Arnault would prefer him to go to Dior – as the billionaire sees it; Jacobs‘ image will only be good for the fashion house, which was considerably shaken by the Galliano scandal.”
As we all know, the position of creative director at Christian Dior has been standing empty ever since John Galliano made an unfortunate racist slur in Paris. We’ve been absolutely dying to find out which direction the iconic fashion house will be taken in, and who will take it there. Hopefully it won’t be long now until we find out.
Marc Jacobs for Dior? Who knows. Watch this space..

Nishe Jewel Pussybow Blouse
We love this opulent jewel-printed blouse - so on trend! Wear with a maxi skirt and some huge earrings for a dramatic look. Find it Asos.
One of the absolute staples that you will definitely need this autumn is one of my favourites: the blouse. Pussybow, sheer, printed or oversized – they’re absolutely key for your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Pick the right one and it’ll see you the whole way through to the next year.
Marc Jacobs, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Jonathan Saunders all included feminine, old-fashioned blouses that walked the line between austere and sexy in their collections. We were especially big fans of Jonathan Saunders’ jewel-coloured silk high-necked blouses, which, teamed with a skinny pencil skirt and heels, were glorious. If you want to kill two trends with one stone then opt for one in an unusual, quirky print, as pattern and shape are the two absolute key words for this season.
Our favourites? Personally, I’m a big fan of American Apparel’s illustration-print blouses and Topshop’s quirky 60s pastel-pink blouse with a peter pan collar (you know how I’m a sucker for anything disgustingly retro). Check out the gallery for our favourite blouses from the high street.

Peacock in Paradise Brooch

Donna Karan Autumn/Winter 2011
I’m a very happy bunny right now, as one of my absolute favourite looks is going to be totally massive this season – and that is full on old Hollywood detective-movie 1940s glamour, complete with jewels and furs. Today I’m concentrating on the jewels – some beautiful antique-look costume jewellery can make even the simplest of outfits glamorous and on-trend.
Designers such as Gucci, Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs were all over the look on the catwalk, teaming sumptuous furs and nipped-at-the-waist tweed with darkly glittering gems and jewels to match the models’ lips. For costume jewellery, I’m a massive fan of the site
GlitzySecrets, whose jewellery designs look like they should cost a thousand pounds per piece – but they don’t, as you can get a piece of timeless vintage-inspired jewellery for £15.
Whether you’re a lover or not of a head-to-toe vintage look, it doesn’t matter as some simple 1940s-style costume jewellery can make a simple black maxi dress or a skirt and top look dramatic – and make an outfit look a lot more expensive than it actually is. Along with GlitzySecret’s beautiful jewellery, it’s also worth checking charity shops as they often sell lovely second-hand pieces.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite bits and bobs from GlitzySecrets.

Designers like Marc Jacobs (pictured) and Stella McCartney were all over the polka dot trends this Autumn/Winter
It’s a big hooray from me as one of my absolute favourite trends is back again for this Autumn/Winter – this season it is all about bold graphic prints, specifically the polka dot, as seen on the catwalks at Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney.
I love polka dots because they can be either sexy or girl-next-door depending on how they’re worn. Want to be a ’50s sex siren? Team a sheer spotted pussybow blouse with a hip-hugging pencil skirt and stilettos for a fiercely sexy look, or look for vintage-style sundresses and skirts for a look that’s girlier.
In the past polka dots have been small, dainty prints, but on the catwalks this year they’ve gotten bigger, bolder and more graphic. If you want to copy Marc Jacobs’ severe secretary style, Asos does an amazing black and white pillbox hat that is almost exactly the same as the one seen on his runway. We also love River Island’s sixties-style polka printed tunic – just team it with a jewel bright duffel coat and some sharp ankle boots for a look that’s perfectly on trend this season.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite polka-dot lovelies.

Marc Jacobs included hard pill-box hats for vintage mystery in his Autumn/Winter 2011 show
If you’re looking forward to planning your new A/W wardrobe then buying a few new accessories is a great place to start – and Mr. Marc Jacobs’ recent Autumn/Winter ’11 with it’s prim skirt-suits and 194os pillbox hats have got us coming over all wistful for an era we were never in. Luckily stores are already cottoning on to wartime-style fashions, so it’s time to get nostalgic with some vintage inspired headgear.
Hats are a huge part of this year’s Autumn/Winter dressing, as the season’s fashion heroine is a mysterious femme fatale who knows her stuff about tailoring – a good dramatic hat can add mystery and old Hollywood glamour to any outfit.
There are a few good pillbox-style pieces already available on the high street, though we reckon there will be more to come. If you can’t find a style at the moment that tickles your fancy you could also opt for a fascinator headband – lots of high street stores such as Lipsy and RockNRose are already making bands complete with large flower detailing and veils.
Check out the gallery above for our favourite pillbox hats and fascinators.
