Forbes names most influential trendsetters under 30,including Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen in Art & Style category

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on December 19th, 2012

Do you ever stop to think about which people you are influenced by? Business magazine Forbes has today named the most influential trendsetters under 30 across 15 categories, but we’re mostly interested in who they think are the brightest of the Art & Style section.

There might be several names many have never have heard of, such as London-born Carly Cushnie (28) whose designs have been worn by America’s First Lady Michelle Obama. Then there are the more known faces such as the Olsen twins, Ashley and Mary Kate, who have been keeping themselves busy with various fashion ventures lately, as well as Alexander Wang, who was recently named as Balenciaga’s new creative director.

But back to the Olsen twins. Have you noticed how they always do the same pouting pose? The proof is in the pictures…

Gossip Girl Blake Lively says “it’s embarrassing” how many pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes she owns

By Andrea Petrou on November 3rd, 2011

Blake Lively says “it’s embarrassing” how many pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes she owns.

The Gossip Girl star is not only an avid collector of the designer’s creations – buying up to 40 pairs at a time – but also a personal friend, and helped celebrated the 20th anniversary of his collection in New York on Tuesday.

She told “They are the most beautiful shoes out there. And incredibly innovative. It’s embarrassing [how many pairs I have].”

On the evening – also attended by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Calvin Klein and Tyrese – Blake chose to wear a pair of splatter-paint snakeskin stilettos.

Christian himself was full of compliments for Blake, saying: “Not only is she beautiful, she is very talented and she’s very smart.

“One of the things that is most important for women and men, at least for me, is intelligence. Through a lot of things, she has proved that she is really intelligent and she also has this natural beauty and this natural way of moving which makes her absolutely a great image.”

Christian also gave his tips for what to expect as the high fashion for this season, adding: “A beautiful low-cut pump. Low-cut in the front and almost the colour of your skin so it can completely disappear or in black so you can wear it with different colours.”

After the party at Barneys, VIP guests headed to a private celebration at Le Caprice in the Pierre Hotel where Alicia Keys – another fan – joined the group for dinner.

The Olsen twins are becoming creative directors at Superga

By emilyborrett on September 13th, 2011

Is there anything that these twins can’t do? They’ve already got three huge fashion brands (The Row, Elizabeth & James and Olsenboye) and now they’re turning their dainty manicured hands to footwear design as they’re set to take over the creative directorship at Italian show brand Superga.

Steve Madden, who holds the North American license for the brand, said on this new merging of minds: “We do a lot of business with Mary-Kate and Ashley. They’ve become friends.”

Surprisingly, the plucky enterprising twins actually approached Superga about the project, instead of the other way round. Ashley spoke out about their new footwear plans: “We were at a meeting with Steve, and we were wearing Supergas – two years later, it kind of fell into our lap. I really don’t think there’s anything like this brand. It’s a tennis-shoe brand with 100 years under its belt. Superga is really a luxurious brand. We are really hoping to bring it back to its roots.”

We absolutely can’t wait to see what Mary-Kate and Ashley come up with for their S/S designs..

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen didn’t want to publicly front their fashion line The Row

By emilyborrett on August 23rd, 2011

The Olsen girls have revealed that they didn’t initially want anyone to know that they were the creative force behind their most famous fashion line, “The Row”.

Apparently, Ashley and Mary-Kate were reluctant to let anyone know that they were the designers behind The Row when the project was just starting out and were almost tempted to hire someone to front the brand for them – they were having “far more fun” knowing that potential clients didn’t know who they were.

Ashley said: “We didn’t want people to know that we were behind it. We’d learnt so much about building brands and talking to a specific customer. We did it with our faces at the beginning, and we knew we didn’t want to do that any more. It’s far more fun this way.”

But we think the Olsen girls are far from just pretty, famous faces to sell a product. For starters they’re actually good designers with impeccable taste, and their various sartorial ventures such as Elizabeth & James and The Row have won them a whole ton of respect from the industry. Forget about being  a famous face, girls – just be proud of what you’ve done!

Mary-Kate Olsen in ElleUK

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on August 12th, 2008

Mary-Kate Elle 1.jpg

We tend to like Mary-Kate Olsen best when she’s being styled by other people, or at least has the input of fashion editors. We’re not sure what this says about us. But Lola London says it best when it comes to MK:

“There are certain pictures of her where i cant help but scrunch up my nose and wonder but the girl is like a living piece of art. fallen angel-tainted innocence type. but when mk shines, you absolutely cannot look away.”

Met Costume Institute Gala: two girls for every guy

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 5th, 2008

We have a feeling Christian Louboutin actually had more than two girls – in terms of who was wearing his footwear. But in terms of dates he graced the red carpet at the Met Costume Institute Gala with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The girls were the guests of Diane von Furstenberg who created custom gowns for Hollywood’s first twins.

Tons more celebs have been confirmed for the Costume Institute Gala next week, and the designers are finally dishing on who they’re dressing.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be attending with Diane von Furstenberg, who has designed custom dresses for the duo.

But Marc Jacobs may have the most girls on his arm – Sofia Coppola, Karen Elson, Rachel Feinstein and Helena Christensen will all be his guests.

Mary-Kate Olsen, Blake Lively & Zoe Kravitz attend Chanel Tribeca Festival dinner

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 29th, 2008

Pictured from left to right: Mary-Kate Olsen, Blake Lively and Zoe Kravitz.

The Tribeca Film Festival is in full swing in New York this week, and the fashion pack is loving it. Chanel hosted a dinner for the occasion with many of fashion’s leading ladies. Mary-Kate Olsen kept things rather sedate this time (what no furry headband?) Gossip Girl stunner Blake Lively looked ravishing in a lacy Chanel number and nude heels. Meanwhile, Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny) made her mark on the fash scene yet again in an embellished dress to match her short dark crop.
