Many were thanking Matthew Williamson today who, besides Marc Jacobs, gave us a break from the safeness of black and clumpy clothes with a burst of multi-color print and texture. As part of Team British Invasion, Williamson dazzled crowds with a mixture of shimmery beads, zigzag knits, ruffled cocktail dresses, skinny leather trousers, fur-trimmed shaped coats and sequinned gowns. A nod to his Pucci days came in the form of geometric-shaped prints, which featured in everything from column dresses to shiny suits, and worn with zebra cut-out ankle sandals. Although he did get a little carried away at times, overall I can see how many (especially New Yorkers) might flock to this collection for a touch of uptown society style.
It might not be the whole collection, but we still thought you’d be as excited as us to see this photo, which shows model Veronika Fasinova cosying up to Matthew Williamson in the first frock to emerge as part of his highly anticipated H&M collaboration, which hits stores on April 23rd.
Keep reading for another snap of the designer with H&M’s Margareta van den Bosch and what we hope is another fabulous print from the range…
Hot off the (internet) presses comes the news of the latest H&M designer collaboration. The Swedish retailer is teaming up with Matthew Williamson for a collection which will hit selected stores next April and will launch nationwide in May.
H&M Creative Advisor Margareta van den Bosch said: “Matthew has such a good eye and a way for working with prints that he mixes up in a new way. When he combines these things, you get a very contemporary London look. It’s for people who want to look special, but his clothes can also be worn in a nonchalant way- you can really play around with them. He is fantastic with piling on colour – it’s a very stylish collaboration for H&M, and very much in line with the way we’re thinking about fashion for spring/summer,”
The collection will include men’s and women’s clothes and you can bet it will feature the luxe kaftans whch Williamson is renowned for.
Matthew Williamson’s show Tuesday morning exploded with colour. Pinks, oranges, blues, purples and greens burst onto the runway in a rainbow of hues. Wearable separates included cigarette trousers, bubble minis, maxi dresses, and tailored jackets. But it was his shiny PVC that really got folks talking.
I guess we’re a little lower rent than some fashionistas. Not only do we not own an Iphone to tap changes into, but we actually turned to pen and paper (how gauche!) when making changes to our fashion week schedule.
The change in question? Matthew Williamson’s rather last minute move to the tents. The Catwalk Queen favorite will be showing in the main Tent venue on Tuesday, September 9th at 10am.
In celebration of their new west coast location, Intermix on Roberston in Los Angeles is offering a $50 break when spending $350 or more. The deal ends September 30th so you better hurry! Just speak the words “I love LA” to the sales associate and like magic she will remove $50! Intermix is a trend mecca best known for their unbelievable collection of designers- from Matthew Williamson, Catherine Malandrino, Herve Leger, Miss Davenport, Stella McCartney, Theory and more. And if you can’t make it to California, check out one of their other 13 locations including 3 in NY and get shopping!
Catwalk Queen’s Gemma Cartwright was lucky enough to sit down with designer Matthew Williamson before London Fashion Week at the Canon “We Speak Image” event. Williamson is celebrating his 10 year anniversary and so is returning to London after five years showing in New York. While we’ll miss having him stateside, we’re excited for all of CQ’s exclusive London Fashion Week coverage which we’ll of course be keeping you updated on here at ShinyStyle.
