Lady Gaga suffers from stage fright during her Oprah appearance

By Andrea Petrou on May 6th, 2010

It seems Lady Gaga is not the tough cookie we had her down for.

After admitting to suffering from bouts of insomnia a few months back, it’s now come to light that the singer also has a mild dose of stage fright.

According to US sources the star refused to walk the red carpet at the Met ball (although her sequined nearly nude playsuit, which she performed in, wouldn’t have screamed shy to us) and then locked herself in her dressing room before appearing on Oprah.

A source told the New York Post: “She literally wouldn’t come out.”

After friends and music execs failed to coax her out artist Terence Koh and Oprah tried and succeeded in getting the star on-stage.

And it seems the stagefright was short-lived. When Gaga got on stage, she told the 700 guests that co-host Anna Wintour had asked her not to swear – which she did anyway. Glad to see you got your fight back Miss G.

Gallery: Best dressed celebs at the Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala

By Andrea Petrou on May 4th, 2010

The Met Ball is one of the hottest fashion events of the year with every celebrity in their right minds (and of course an invite) turning up for the star studded event, otherwise known as the annual Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala.

Celebs including Sarah Jessica Parker, who turned up in a pale pink frock, Anne Hathaway, who led the trend for big and netted and Blake Lively who wore a stunning turquoise gown, complete with natural fake tan all made a note worthy fashion appearance.

They were joined by Chloe Sevigny who also showed off a dark wash of colour in her Proenza Schouler mini dress and designers including Stella McCartney.

However we think it was Kristen Stewart who really stole the show with her funky fashion take to red carpet glam.

We put together a gallery of the best dressed of the night.

Spend an afternoon at the Met with Carrie

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 10th, 2008

Carrie Sex and the City.jpg

You know both Carrie and SJP would encourage you to support the arts. Now when you get your support on at the Met Costume Institute the Sex and the City star will join you in spirit – and voice.

Sarah Jessica Parker will be the voice in the headphones narrating the new audio guide tour on “Costume: The Art of Dress” beginning Nov. 25.

It will surely seem like Carrie’s doing a voiceover as you peruse the 20 pieces of art from the museum’s permanent collection, like historical garments, paintings and sculptures. We wonder if there will be any cute nods to SJP’s most famous role – “When I look at this ancient costume, I can’t help but wonder…”

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 6th, 2008

If you can’t make it to New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute (and if you possibly can, we recommend it) then now you’re in luck! The MET has launched their online database.

The project was started in 2000 and since then the curators have “digitized” 29,432 objects from the 31,000-piece collection.

“We’re involved in working with the collection to prepare for a rehousing of it,” curator Harold Koda told WWD. “We have grown so much and would like to house everything properly, and in conjunction with that, we started to document things that hadn’t been reviewed since they first came in in the Forties. Once we got the information together, we thought it would be ideal if the general public could log in and, for instance, find all of our Christian Diors.”
