Designer Christmas outfit inspiration: The jumpsuit

By Andrea Petrou on November 30th, 2011

The 70s are a hot fashion topic right now. And while we love all the funky prints and denim the best style to come out of this era and into this season is of course the jumpsuit.
This little one piece has been around for a few seasons but for AW 2011 its taken on a wide legged silhouette and a satin, velvet or silk appearance.
If you want to wear one of these lovelies to that Christmas party then keep it simple. Add a thin waist belt to accentuate that wide leg and add some super high heels.

Finish off the look with a little leather jacket to go right back to that Studio 54 look.

See the gallery below for some designer inspiration.

New York Fashion Week: Michael Kors S/S 2012

New York was transported to the plains of Africa yesterday as the legendary American designer Michael Kors unveiled his new Spring/Summer 2012 collection, which had clear tribal world-traveller vibes with rusty khaki shades and lush animal prints.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is all about the Michael Kors show, so naturally we were excited to see what the newly-wed designer had come up with this time. Like Diane Von Furstenberg earlier this week, there was an obvious African inspiration, though Kors’ designs and prints were less graphic and more earthy than DVF’s, working in shades of khaki green, stone, fawn and rust with a few splashes of zebra and snake-print here and there.

It was primarily a casualwear collection, sportswear and casual separates being what Michael Kors usually does best, but naturellement he didn’t leave us high and dry when it came to glamour, either. His high-waisted 50s-silhouette swimming costumes and bikinis came either in rustic-looking batik or snake-print, while his evening dresses and skirts came as incredible weathered-looking ruffled creations made out of tiny feathery strips layered over one another, in cheetah print, cream and scarlet, leaving the models looking like amazing exotic birds.

All in all, it’s another excellent collection from Kors that I can’t really fault. The styling was perfect, too – I’m so hankering for those knee-high black leather gladiator sandals that all the models got to wear. I think teaming the edgy fetish-y footwear with draped batik fabrics and animal prints is a cool, modern new take on the world-traveller look.

Check out the gallery above to see the highlights from Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Michael Kors gets married

By emilyborrett on August 19th, 2011

A huge congratulations to our favourite American designer Michael Kors, who has just tied the knot! Ooh, we love a wedding (even if we weren’t invited or anything).

Kors and his long-term partner Lance LePere had a romantic ceremony on the beach this Tuesday in the fancy Hamptons, the favoured mini-break town for rich Manhattan holidaygoers. Michael said about the wedding: “To marry someone as wonderful and special to me as Lance barefoot on a glorious beach is more than I could have dreamed of.” Aw, it’s making us a bit soppy actually.

The couple have been dating since 1990, but have only finally been able to tie the knot since a recent law allowing same-sex marriage in New York came in. When asked about how the couple fell in love, Michael replied: “We share a certain level of taste, an American point of view, and I think we like to play with Americana. Over the years and the day-to-day process of dreaming together, things just naturally fell into place.” We have to say, that’s a very fashion response.

Congratulations, fellas! This news has made our day.

One big massive congratulations to the legendary American designer and “Project Runway” judge Michael Kors, who has announced his engagement to his partner of over ten years, Lance LaPere.

The designer has been waiting to marry his partner for years, and finally can now that same-sex marriage is legal in the state of New York. He said about his upcoming wedding, “Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together. We have no plans for a major party, but we will be getting married privately.”

In celebration of Michael’s happy news, we’re doing a special gallery on our favourite Michael Kors designs. We absolutely adore his trademark blend of sculptural, tailored fashion with American sportwear, and today we’re going to say our thanks. Viva Kors!

Michael Kors compares his new store to “a delicious pizza”.

By Andrea Petrou on March 10th, 2011

Michael Kors has compared his new store to “a delicious pizza”.

The American designer, who opened his first shop in Paris last week and is about to open another in London’s Regent’s Street, says it will be the shopping equivalent of eating something that tastes good but is affordable.

He said: “I love indulgent caviar but I also enjoy a delicious pizza – they’re just different experiences. The same goes for my new store.”

According to Michael, the new store will aim to embrace British style by mixing lots of different looks in one place.

He told vogue.com: “The point of the shop is to mix things up and nowhere does this like the UK. It’s all about mixing couture with the high street, the high street with a piece from Portobello. The simple truth is lots of designers talk about this but not a lot actually do.

“It’ll be a fun, light and quick way of getting the Michael Kors experience under one roof.”

The designer already has a flagship store in London’s Bond Street and thinks the Regent Street addition will ensure an even bigger range of fashion-lovers will have access to his pieces.

He explained: “In Bond Street there is such an incredible global mix of people and I find that so intriguing. Regent Street is similar in that way. It fuses high end with low end, it’s fun and has this great energy to it.”

Estée Lauder and Michael Kors rumoured to be collaborating on a make-up collection

By Andrea Petrou on November 3rd, 2009

Micheal Kors and Estelle.jpgIt seems designers are out in force this week, announcing a range of exciting new cosmetic and fragrances, which have us frothing at the mouth with excitement (yes we know it’s not a nice image first thing in the morning.)

The first piece of news that has us buzzing is a rumoured cosmetics collaboration between Estée Lauder and Michael Kors. The range, which is due out next year is part of Michael’s Very Hollywood’ collection and is said to include pink hues, and a bright, face lifting blusher. Yes, we agree, it will probably sell out as soon as it hits the shelves.

And if that wasn’t enough Balenciaga is also said to launch a new fragrance in 2010. Yes we know, designer perfumes aren’t that rare but Balenciaga hasn’t bought out a fragrance for a while, and if its anything like previous scents, we’re in for a perfumed treat.

Full Circle launches its new range with a dress similar to Angelina Jolie’s

By Andrea Petrou on August 26th, 2009

Full circle.JPGI’m not sure about you, but I think Angelina’s looking amazing at the moment, and if it wasn’t for my major crush on Brad, then I’d say he should stick with her, but well, all’s fair in love and war and all that.

So imagine my delight when I got a look at Full Circle’s new Autumn/Winter range, which features a dress, not so different from the one from the Michael Kors dress Angelina wore to accompany Mr Pitt to the Inglorious Basterds premier. Oh and it’s also quite similar to the one his ex Jennifer wore on the front cover of Vogue.

Now we said similar, not the same, as this stunning dress has sleeves as opposed to the strapless look both women went for.

However, the material and straight cut style are a pretty close match.

As well as the Brad stealing dress the company has also teamed up with accessory Lou Dalton.

The designer, who previously worked with Tommy Hilfiger and Ted Baker has created a range of bags in moc croc, faux fur patchwork and leathers to bring a retro, vintage fashion feel to the collection.

Now I’m not sure about you, but I’m buying that dress quickly and heading, to LA.

We can look forward to guest judges like Rebecca Romijn, Eva Longoria and Lindsay Lohan - some of the show’s biggest celeb names yet. But what of big designer names? Hopefully the left coast relocation hasn’t put the kibosh on more industry-insider guests.

What won’t we see? Too much of Nina Garcia or Michael Kors, according to reports.

Here’s designer Michael Kors as James Stewart as L.B. Jeffries in Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” which is a fabulously styled movie.

Donatella Versace chose to portray “The Princess and the Pea” on a pile of matresses.
