Michelle Obama wears Tracy Reese on cover of People

By Andrea Thatcher on February 25th, 2009

People’s latest cover subject, First Lady Michelle Obama, is likely trying to silence critics with her latest fashion choice. Women’s Wear Daily reported after the inauguration that many in the black community expressed disappointment that Mrs. Obama wasn’t supporting more African American designers.

eBay Style Director Constance White shared with us that Obama’s dress from the View, Gap dress for the Fourth of July, purple dress from the campaign trail and yellow J.Crew cardigan all sold out on the auction site.

“No matter what she wears on Inauguration day, Michelle Obama’s singular style will make her the woman to watch for the next four years,” White said. “She is a shot in the arm for American fashion, and dare I say, the most stylish first lady in four decades.”

To hear how Obama’s style is going to go beyond the sartorial to affect the very White House itself, keep reading.
