By Andrea Petrou on February 13th, 2012

Last night was a fashion gals dream with two main A-list events attracting celebrities to the red carpets.

Over in LA the music world including Katy Perry, who turned up in a blue long lace fishtail frock, and Rihanna who went for a backless black number, walked the style parade at the Grammy awards.

They were joined by Taylor Swift, who looked great in a gold high neck sleeved lace fishtail dress, and Nicki Minaj who took Lady Gaga’s extreme fashion place in a red satin cape. She accessorised her look with her very own Pope.

Over in blighty making a more sophisticated entrance was Meryl Streep who went for a black dress at the BAFTAs.

She was joined by Michelle Williams who went for a 50s dress with a white bodice and black skirt complete with a corsage.

Christina Hendricks showed off her hour glass figure in a black fishtail number while Penelope Cruz added some colour in a wine red strapless straight dress.

By Andrea Petrou on January 16th, 2012

We’re opening up a whole can of fashion worms with our list of the worst dressed celebrities at last night’s Golden Globes. We know some of you won’t agree with our list but some of our fave ladies just didn’t cut it when it came to their frocks last night.

First up is Kelly Osbourne who just didn’t look right in her blue fishtail frock, while Charlize Theron, known for her mistakes on the red carpet, made another faux pas with her short dress and long train.

Michelle William’s blue leopard print dress just didn’t stand out, while Natalie Portman’s ill fitting frock also lands her in our list.

See the gallery below for the rest of our worst dressed.

Top five worst dressed celebrities at the 2011 Golden Globe awards

By Andrea Petrou on January 5th, 2012

We heart January over here at ShinyStyle.

The Christmas party season is over, the sales are on and spring fashion colours are peeping through on the highstreet. However, the best thing about this month is of course the Golden Globe awards, which are guaranteed to bring out some of the best and worst dressed stars in Hollywood.

There’s only ten days left until we get to see all of this year’s red carpet style but to celebrate the huge event we’ve decided to take a look back at some of 2011′s fashion disasters.

Making the list is Leighton Meester who opted for a Burberry frock that couldn’t decide which trend it wanted to channel. Then there’s Helena Bonham Carter – don’t shoot us – whose glasses mixed with an over patterned frock made her look more silly than stylish.

And let’s not forget Halle Berry and January Jones who both showed us why it’s sometimes best to cover up at such events. Less is sometimes not more ladies.

See the gallery below for our top five worst dressed.

Michelle Williams involved in choosing My Week With Marylin costumes

By Andrea Petrou on November 22nd, 2011

Michelle Williams was involved in choosing the look of her character Marilyn Monroe for new movie ‘My Week With Marilyn’.

The actress plays the troubled started in the new movie and costume designer Jill Taylor reveled she was impressed with Michelle’s opinion on what she should wear.

She told Vogue.co.uk: “Michelle has this real vulnerable quality to her – she’s like a little girl. She’s almost fawn-like, a real Bambi. I think that’s something she brings to each film she does, but it was especially helpful in ‘My Week With Marilyn’ because it meant she really understood and captured the essence of the Marilyn we were trying to convey. You work with so many people in film who give you nothing, but that just wasn’t the case with Michelle. I’d be round hers late at night to do fittings and she always had an opinion on the costumes.”

Jill also revealed she used fashion to represent the “private” of the tragic actress in the film and discovered that Marilyn was ahead of her time when it came to fashion.

She said: “What we wanted to represent was the private side of her. She’s known for her show-stopping glamorous gowns, but after studying hundreds of books and photographs we found out that actually Marilyn dressed for comfort. She was ahead of her time in terms of style. The Fifties look was very much based on structuring and tailoring, but she was often chose quite American sporty clothes to wear. She was the Calvin Klein girl before there even was Calvin Klein. In private, she kept to very simple lines and silhouettes.”

Michelle Williams loves Marylin Monroe’s simple style

By Andrea Petrou on November 1st, 2011

Michelle Williams likes running through fields with no shoes on.

The 31-year-old actress – who has six-year-old daughter Matilda from her relationship with late actor Australian Heath Ledger – is now playing troubled star Marilyn Monroe in movie My Week with Marilyn, and she admits has always liked her because she was a “simple dresser”.

She told UK’s Elle magazine: “Something I really appreciated about her is what a simple dresser she was. She’s really, in her personal life, completely unadorned.

“Everything that she wore looked like she could take hr shoes off and run through a field. And I like that.”

Michelle – who stars alongside Emma Watson and Dame Judi Dench in the film – also admits she was always more preoccupied with the “private” side of Marilyn as opposed to her Hollywood career.

She added: “I had always been more interested in the private Marilyn, and the unguarded Marilyn.

“Even as a young girl, my primary concern wasn’t with this larger than life personality smiling back from the wall but with what was going on underneath.”

Her love for the star – who died in 1962 – was deep enough for her to be very concerned about taking on the role.

She said: “I was so apprehensive. It was daunting living up to people’s expectations as well as my own expectations.”

Michelle Williams keeps the wedding ring she wore in the Blue Valentine film

By Andrea Petrou on April 4th, 2011

Michelle Williams has kept the wedding ring she wore in ‘Blue Valentine’.

The 30-year-old actress – who was romantically linked with Ryan Gosling, who played her husband in the film – enjoys keeping mementoes from her movie sets to remind her of experiences when she returns to her normal life.

She said: “It’s nice to keep mementoes when you’re back in your home life, where it’s all about cooking and laundry.

“(The wedding ring) is on the windowsill, in front of where I was the dishes. I like these little things that only I know about.”

Michelle – who has a five-year-old daughter Matilda with her former fiance, late actor Heath Ledger – also revealed she starts preparing for movie roles as early as possible as everything she does in her life seems to take longer for her than other people.

She added in an interview with Culture magazine: “Everything in my life takes more time than it takes other people. A 30-minute recipe for working mums takes me two hours. I have to wake up really early to feel I’m properly awake.

“That’s a long way of saying I need time to prepare for a film so I don’t feel like a phoney.”
