Kate Middleton made another fashion debut over the weekend.
The Duchess of Cambridge joined new hubby Prince William at Windsor’s Victoria Barracks, where the pair presented service medals to members of the Irish Guards.
And of course Kate wore an outfit to get us all talking, as well as one perfect for the day.
Giving a nod to the event, the Duchess went for a military themed navy blue double-breasted coat dress, complete with buttons by Alexander McQueen.
She teamed this up with her trademark knee length skirt, matching heels and a must-have fascinator hat.
Sad faces everyone because it looks like Balmain is losing a great designer.
That’s right Christophe Decarnin is leaving the fashion house.
The designer – famed for introducing the rock and military inspired look to the label – has announced he will depart the French fashion house, which he joined in 2005 before being made creative director in November 2007, though his successor has not yet been named.
Paying tribute to Christophe, Balmain CEO Alain Hivelin said: “Since 1945, the house of Pierre Balmain has been one of the leading French and international luxury brands. Christophe Decarnin’s work with the house’s design team contributed to the success that the brand has enjoyed in recent years.”
It is expected the fashion house will promote one of their current employees to the position of creative director.
Questions about Christophe’s future with Balmain were first raised last month when he was absent from their autumn/winter 2011-12 show in Paris.
However, at the time, a spokesperson cited medical reasons for his absence.
They said: “Christophe was feeling unwell and was asked to stay at home by doctor’s orders. It’s been a demanding season and unfortunately he couldn’t be at the show today. The collection was done completely under his creative direction. Now he needs to rest.”
I’m off on holiday tomorrow (don’t worry ShinyStyler’s we’ve got two great ladies who will be giving you all the latest fashion and celebrity news while I’m away).
However, that’s not the reason I’m telling you, it’s actually the fact, like many girls who are going away this year, until this weekend I was completely lost about what to wear to the airport and on the plane.
Yes it needs to be comfortable, and if you’re a celeb such as Kristen Stewart or Jessica Alba then you can get away with those, but it also needs to be cool enough for when you get to the other side, which unless you want to be rushing into the toilets to change into shorts (believe me I’ve done it and I’ve nearly missed my luggage), rules out jeans.
However, you also need to be warm enough on the plane. So this weekend I had a scout around the shops to get an idea of the airport must haves. View the gallery below to see my top five.
Ahhh military. We talked about this trend yesterday when we gave you our top five military must haves, but we thought it was only right that we did a separate gallery for military trousers, afterall they’ve marched the trend right out of the 80s and into 2010.
Ever since Balmain showed these off in his SS2010 show, skinny military style trousers have replaced those baggy cargo styles and have become hugely popular.
And of course the highstreet has got wind of this, stocking a huge range of styles, which either scream military or just give a nod to the trend with brass buttons and khaki colours. We pick out the best 5.
Military is a trend that many women fear. It’s heavy looking, difficult to match up, and evokes memories of the 80s combat trousers we once used to wear (ours were elasticated, but to be fair we were only 9).
There’s been a few times since then that the military look has tried to make a comeback into the mainstream fashion world, think way back in the 90s when All Saints wore nothing but military pants, but it’s not really stood out as a “must-have” for a while.
Until now that is. The trend has fought back from all the negatives and was a main contender at the Balmain SS2010 show, which accentuated the look with brass buttons, peep toes lace-up boots and fitted military jackets. Skinny military style trousers replaced those baggy cargo styles and have become hugely popular. So much so that they sold out within days, and highstreet alternatives had the same success. Jean Paul Gaultier also gave a nod to the trend in his collection.
As expected, these nods have caused the highstreet to go into overdrive. Visit any store and you’ll find blazers with military style brass buttons, khaki tops and trousers, utility style dresses (we heart) and peep toe shoes.
We’ve put together our top five military must-haves for this season. And look out tomorrow for our skinny military trouser special.
Rihanna’s style is one we like to talk about alot here at ShinyStyle. Sometimes she’s kooky, sometimes she shows us how fashion should be worn and other times she makes us feel better showing us that even the best people can make mistakes.
However we’re not too sure what to make of the outfit she wore when she arrived at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, where she is promoting her album ‘Rated R’.
Dressed in a military style coat over a denim waistcaot, the singer looks as though she’s tried to combine too many styles into one outfit. And while we understand the need to cover up hair after a long flight, we really can’t condone the military style baseball cap, which worn at a side angle looks as though it should be on the set of the Fresh Price of Bel-Air.

We’re liking Pixie Lott, alot (sorry) at the moment. Her tunes are sassy and she’s leant her talents to a range of charitable clothing, which looks absolutely amazing.
So it’s no surprise that she’s been snapped for the cover of UK InStyle magazine. Pixie wears a range of this years hottest styles pulling off sequins, lace and military effortlessly
And it seems she’s also a true fashionista. During an interview with the magazine she said: “I’ve always been into fashion. My sister is exactly the same. We get it from our mum. She used to dress us in designer stuff when we were little.”

Things were of a very sharp, sartorial nature at the Narciso Rodriguez fall ’09 show on Tuesday evening. Dipping into the future (like so many designers this season) his models took to the catwalk in robot-style peek-a-boo headwear. Body-con dresses in acid yellow, shocking pink and neon purple offered a hint of skin in sliced sections. They were thrown alongside more tailored, conservative looks in camel coats and tweed skirt suits. Jackets also ranged from jaquard to mohair with full-length zips. Besides a hint of Gothic lace and a shiny corset here and there, the most daring was left to a camouflage black-and-white print worked into dresses, trousers, boots and just about everything else. With the likes of Gisele Bundchen, Anna Wintour and Julianne Moore on the front row, Rag & Bone presented a strong, sharp A/W 08-09 collection, for both men and women. The hugely military-equestrian show, proved designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright’s commitment to providing more of what they know in uniform-style tailoring.
The military look is so in right now. It seems as though pea coats are everywhere! Following this summer’s nautical trend, buttoned-up military looks are hot for fall. This peacoat by Martin Grant is a refershing departure from hum-drum navy in winter white ecru. The jacket is roomy enough that you can wear it over your fave sweater. It’s made in France and will keep you oh-so-toasty during those chilly autumn nights. $1,575.00 at Barneys.
