Hailee Steinfeld says being named as the face of Miu Miu was “really huge”
Hailee Steinfeld says being named as the face of Miu Miu was “really huge”.
The ‘True Grit’ actress – who was recruited by the Italian fashion house in May at the age of just 14 – explained while fronting a campaign for the label is “an honour”, she had only just started to learn about fashion when she took on the role.
She said: “Just going from about a year-and-a-half ago, when I was doing the press for ‘True Grit’ and the awards circuit and learning about the different designers and getting to wear them, and having Miu Miu be one of my favourites – then having something the campaign come along was really huge for me.
“It’s been an honour. It has been so much fun. I have had such a blast getting to know everyone that works with the brand.”
Hailee admitted she is enjoying working in the industry so much that she is even considering a career in the future as a fashion blogger.
She added in an interview with Fashionista.com: “Fashion has become a big part of my life. I’d like to start blogging about something to do with fashion and then I’d go into a bajillion different things. But yeah, fashion seems like a really great thing to write about.”
Designer spotlight: Miu Miu
Carrying on with our galleries of some of our greatest designers of the moment, we’re getting in touch with our fabulously Italian sides today and shining the spotlight on Miu Miu, the diffusion line of Miuccia Prada and one of the biggest labels in fashion en ce moment. Infamous for their devilishly girly designs, with more than a dash of blatant sexuality in a naughty “Lolita” way, Miu Miu is the label to love if you like your fashion frothy and playful.
Anyone who’s anyone has been seen out in recent years in one of their deliciously eccentric designs – their speciality seems to have become fun, sugary prints that are great for wearing if you want to go out and play. Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Daisy Lowe was seen last year in their Spring/Summer swallow-printed dresses with the cheeky cutaway panels which revealed a lot of beautiful skin – you know you’re doing something right if both fashion’s first lady and a scruffy edgy thing like Daisy are angling to wear your dresses.
Another favourite of ours recently have been their gorgeous kitten-printed blouses, complete with sparkling Swarovski detail. I know that on paper it sounds hideous and OTT but when in reality was a piece of fashion magic – a reflection on a world that now welcomes the kitsch and the silly with open arms. And why shouldn’t it?
Their most recent collection has been a bit more muted, with overcoats and dresses in burnt umber and oranges, but the ornate Miu Miu attention to detail remains, with beautifully stitched and printed oriental-style florals creeping up hemlines and sleeves.
Miu Miu, we love you! Passionately! Check out the gallery above to see our favourite moments from Miu Miu since 2006.
ShinyStyle loves: Quirky jewellery at Chelsea Doll
By Emily Borrett.
You may remember that a while back we looked at the boutique online jewellers Chelsea Doll, whose speciality was a charming blend of quirkiness, with a few of the current trends mixed in for good measure. Well, it’s been a while since we had a look at their site, and we have to say that this is a boutique who has only gone from strength to strength since we were last there. Once selling a limited selection of their sweet designs, now they have absolutely masses to choose from – and there’s something for everybody.
If it’s cutesy, ironic kitsch that you’re after, as seen in the past few seasons at Louis Vuitton and and Miu Miu, then Chelsea Doll is the place to look. Birds, insects, vintage homewares and flowers – all key themes in Chelsea Doll design which will add a cute twist to any outfit.
Our absolute favourite piece is the frankly adorable “Birdsong” necklace, which is a row of tiny sparkling birds on a silver chain. How very Miu Miu! Or if you want to go further down the opposite route to toughen up your outfit, there’s a great series of skull jewellery which will add a great twist to a party dress or girlie outfit – we absolutely love their scarlet crystal-studded skull earrings.
Mila Kunis watches Miu Miu Paris show
Paris Fashion Week came to a close with a beautiful collection from Miu Miu yesterday
‘Black Swan’ star Mila Kunis and former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld’s daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld were on the front row for the collection from Miuccia Prada.
Dresses featured heavily on the Miu Miu catwalk, with blacks intermingled with browns and oranges, all in a classy silhouette cut below the knee and up to the neck.
Collars were often added to give authority to the outfits – as did hard-edged 80s power-shoulders – which were nearly all carried with a variety of bags.
Glittering bird prints were also a key-focus of the dresses.
The show brings an end to the fall/winter 2011/12 collections in New York, London, Milan and Paris, which have included well-received shows from Victoria Beckham – debuting a newer, slouchier style – Chanel, with a harder-edged than most are used to while Sarah Burton was praised for her second collection for Alexander McQueen.
However, the shows have not been without trouble – John Galliano was sacked from Christian Dior after going on an anti-Semetic rant against a group of women in a Parisian cafe.
SS2010 Trend: Loafers
Like them or loafe (sorry) them, loafers are making a huge come back this season.
They were hot at London Fashion Week catwalk shows back in September and a range of top designers have already begun launching these styles into the retail space.
One example is Miu Miu, which has launched a capsule shoe collection for Spring 2010.
The range will hit stores in May and has taken it’s inspiration from classic men’s shoes (hence the loafer).
Now we know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but we’ve decided to put together a gallery anyway for those who will be donning these this summer, and remember there’s sometimes nothing better than a flat shoe, especially when it’s in-trend.
Keira Knightly wears Miu Miu to the Laurence Olivier Awards Nominees Luncheon
Keira Knightley gave a nod to womenkind yesterday afternoon by wearing a blouse covered with naked woman.
The actress chose the blouse to wear at the Laurence Olivier Awards Nominee luncheon and teamed it up with a kooky black skirt.
And if you think you’ve seen the exact outfir somewhere else before then you’re right. It’s look 22 from the Miu Miu SS2010 collection, which was shown on the catwalk last year.
If we’re honest we quite like the outfit and we’d probably follow Kiera’s Miu Miu footsteps. But would you? Leave your comments below and let us know.
It’s going to be handbags at dawn with this designer sale
Another day and another handbag bargain (think I’m going to need a bigger house after all of this.)
Now, we’re not talking about low low prices here, but those of you who know how much Gucci and Prada bags cost, will understand why I’m so excited about this.
From tomorrow, and for three days only (ok now I sound like a DFS store advert), designer website BrandAlley is having a handbag sale.
It’s reducing a range of Miu Miu, Prada and Gucci bags by around £200 to £300.
We love the pictured red Miu Miu bag, which is now down to £479 from £700 and the white Gucci bag, which has been reduced from £1142 to £699.
Hmm I wonder if my bank will extend my overdraft, after all it’s for a good cause.
Yay or Nay Wednesday: Miu Miu sequin platform pumps
Don’t get us wrong, we love a Miu Miu shoe. But do you love this Miu Miu sequin platform pump, $950? Or, as Cher Horowitz would say, it is a full on Monet?
While the sequins might look less garish from far away, the seemingly random color placement may make the hue look muddled.
What do you think, yay or nay?
