Paris Fashion Week: Miu Miu

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 3rd, 2008

Isabelle over at Catwalk Queen is relieved that Miuccia Prada saved the day with a bold and relatively daring collection for Miu Miu based on horse jockeys saving what has been a pretty conservative fashion season from total boredom.
Jersey curved panels created volume and emphasised hips (saddlebags?) and in what was a really cute touch each model had their initials embroidered onto the clothes. Nevertheless Miuccia’s trademark quirky touches were fairly muted.

What’s there really to do on President’s Day but read magazines? A few of our favorite ladies graced the covers of the top glossies. Currently doing the publicity rounds for their new film The Other Boleyn Girl, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman hit the cover for March’s issue of W. Shot by Steven Klein, both ladies are wearing Miu Miu. They both look okay, but honestly we prefer Miu Miu’s ads with Kirsten Dunst.

Kirsten Dunst for Miu Miu spring campaign images

By Andrea Thatcher on January 14th, 2008

Kiki.jpg

While we love almost everything Kirsten Dunst does on film (and her fabulous wardrobes) we’re not always a fan of her real-life fashion. Not that an ad campaign is real life, but what do you think of this image from her Miu Miu spring campaign shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in LA last November. We think Miu Miu and Kiki are a perfect match, but wish we saw more of the star in this photo. Okay, okay, the shoe is the star, but we wish we saw more of Kirsten. Love her headband and the dress. A backstage video of this shoot would be more than welcome.

Another picture after the jump.

Top Five: Shoes in the Net-a-Porter Sale

By Andrea Thatcher on November 28th, 2007

Top%205%20Shoes.jpg

Net-a-Porter has a sale going on with up to 60% off, which actually makes some of their designer duds affordable to those of us who can’t shop the runway. Plus, their new $12 ground shipping makes it easier, too. Whenever we hear of a Net-a-Porter sale, or pretty much any sale really, the first place we look is at the shoes. So here’s our top five picks from the sale.

We’ve been known to already have the holiday music station playing in our car, so we’re irresistibly drawn to anything that plays into our festive mood like these cherry red Alexander McQueen round-toe pumps. A hidden platform and seam down the back give these an old Hollywood feel. The $540 shoes are on sale for $324.

Frame bags offer structure and luxury: the most favored five of the season

By Andrea Thatcher on October 11th, 2007

miu%20miu.jpgBesides the need for an over-sized clutch and exotic skins in the handbag department, frame bags are becoming another hot item for fall and winter ’07. Topping off the season’s sell-out list, designers such as Anya Hindmarch, Zac Posen, Juicy Couture, and Miu Miu are already receiving extra-long waiting lists, with pre-ordering in full swing at the department stores. Continue over to the jump for a roundup of just five of the most coveted frame bags that are sure to pull a disappearing act before the New Year:

Puffy handbags are in

By Elaine LaPersonerie on September 7th, 2007

Texture is in this fall and, if you’ve noticed, there seems to be a lot of puff. From Chanel to Miu Miu to Louis Vitton to Cynthia Rowley, everyone seems to be into this quilted look. Net-A-Porter is showing this black leather Marc Jacobs Mayfair shoulder bag with gold hardware and a chunky chain link strap. I think it’s really classy, but for $895 I’m not sure it’s worth it. But with some quick internet surfing I found a similar bag at Fashion Flaire for $49.99. It’s not leather, but so what–it’s so hard to notice the faux half the time, anyway! Plus with the number of bag peddlers on NYC streets, everyone in the world is carrying a faux something! So, if you can’t swing for the pricier styles–look for something similar before you break the bank.
