Kate Moss’ 13-year-old half sister Charlotte Moss makes her modelling debut

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2011

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince

Kate Moss’ 13-year-old half sister has made her modelling debut.

Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Moss – daughter of Kate’s father Peter Moss and his second wife Inger – last month posed for her first test shoot, which was arranged by Sarah Doukas at Storm models, the agency who first discovered Kate at the age of 14.

Lottie’s dad Peter told the Daily Mail newspaper: “It’s early days really. Storm, Kate’s agent, felt that it was worth giving Lottie a test shoot and seeing how she turned out. She had a lovely time and she seemed to come out quite well – so everybody’s happy so far.

“It will be very strictly controlled because she’s not 14 yet so it’s very early days.

“It will all be left to Sarah and Simon at Storm to decide what the best way ahead is. So we’re going to have a chat with them later in the year, possibly before Christmas, just to decide how to go forward.

“It was a nice experience [for Lottie] to have a good photographer and the life of a photographic model, a day in the life as it were, but an exciting day for her.”

“Well, you have to take advantage of any opportunities that come along haven’t you? If things work out for Lottie and she eventually gets some work it could help her in her future.

“It’s getting harder and harder to get jobs, university and things like that – so if she can get a couple of jobs early on and get something behind her maybe it makes life easier.”

The pictures were taken by photographer Andrea Carter-Bowman.

Fashion insiders have rushed to praised Lottie’s look with Carole White, the founder of Premier Models saying: “Lottie looks beautiful and fresh – a very English rose look.”

“Generally you need the height. Kate is an exception to the rule because models need to be 5ft?9in to 5ft?11in. I think Lottie would make a lovely young model.”

Fashion expert Karen Kay added: “She’s even got a Cindy Crawford-style mole on her chin. She’s the full package. If she plays her cards right, she could eclipse Kate.”

Lottie first came to public attention when she was one of 15 bridesmaids at Kate’s wedding to Jamie Hince in July

Diane Kruger was shocked at being asked to be the face of Calvin Klein’s Beauty fragrance

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2011

Diane Kruger thought Calvin Klein bosses were “kidding” when they asked her to be the face of their Beauty fragrance.

The 35-year-old actress – who began her modelling career in Paris at the age of 15 – believed the public would adopt a, “Who does she think she is?” attitude if she fronted the brand.

She explained: “It’s very cool to be the face of a perfume, that’s a very flattering thing. When Calvin Klein asked me to be the face of a perfume called ‘Beauty’ I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ when they told me the name.

“I was thinking people are going to say, ‘Who does she think she is from Helen of Troy to ‘Beauty’?’ Then with all the work I’ve done for cosmetics companies too it becomes very global.”

The German-born beauty admitted she is pleased to now have more of a say in which campaigns she fronts, as she likes the idea of making products “accessible to all women over the world”.

Diane added to The Independent newspaper: “From my modelling days, I have relationships with all these people and it’s kind of a cool thing that I still do that as well. It’s better these days as I now have more of say in what I do and so I don’t sign with people that I don’t stand behind.

“I like the idea of accessibility, coming from a lower-middle-class background myself, I feel like beauty and products should be accessible to women all over the world.”

Mario Testino pushed for Gisele Bundchen to have a modelling career

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2011

Mario Testino “fought” for Gisele Bundchen.

The legendary photographer says he saw something special in the Brazilian supermodel as soon as he met her when she was a rising star even though others didn’t.

He told Grazia magazine: “When I started, Bruce Weber was the big star photographer, so all the models were the ones he liked; sporty and outdoorsy. I couldn’t find anyone, so I would go to the street looking for people who suited my aesthetic. When I met Gisele in New York, I liked her immediately. No one was using her. I fought for her.”

Although Mario, 56, is one of the world’s most sought-after snappers, he still worries it could all be taken away from him.

He said: “It wasn’t until this September that I felt I had finally arrived. I had six covers and 180 pages of editorial. For once, I felt I was accepted everywhere.

“But I still worry that nobody will call me for the next job.”

Agyness Deyn quit modelling to “find herself”

By emilyborrett on September 12th, 2011

The famous former model Agyness Deyn has revealed her reasons for leaving the fashion industry at the peak of her career.

Agyness, who was one of the most famous faces of the modelling world five years ago with her elfin looks and boyish crop, quit modelling because she felt like her career was taking over her life and her personality.

The gamine beauty said: “I think every single person, not just models, gets to a certain age and you’re like, ‘Who the f**k am I?’ I think with modelling, even though it was me and it wasn’t contrived, it got like other people were saying, ‘OK, that’s you.’ And I was like, ‘Is that me? That isn’t all of me.’ There’s so much more to a person. It was about two years ago when I stopped – I still did little bits, but I had to get off the train to really assess my life and what I wanted. I just suddenly couldn’t see where Agyness the model ended and where I started. It was so enmeshed and I was so busy that that’s all I was doing for ages. I lost my sense of self.”

Will we ever see Agyness return to the runway? She doesn’t think so as she plans to move into the acting world but will never say never to working on the catwalks again. The model confessed: “I don’t want to be like, ‘OK, now I’m an actress and I’m never going to model again’, because that would be crazy.”

Come back to us Agy, the catwalks of London miss you!

Rosie Huntington-Whitely says it takes “dedication” to become a good model

By emilyborrett on September 8th, 2011

Rosie Huntington-Whitely has spoken out about exactly what it takes to have a successful career in modelling.

Rosie, who’s probably every man in the world’s dream girl at the moment, is fast becoming one of our generation’s most loved models and a successful Hollywood actress with a leading role in the new Transformers movie. So it’s fair to say that Miss Rosie knows a thing or two about a successful modelling career.

Her advice to any aspiring young models? “It takes hard work, determination and the ability to pick yourself up and try again when things go wrong. I advise you to get a reputable team around you, too. And always trust your gut feeling.” In addition to Rosie’s recommendations, we also recommend swishy hair, a bee-sting pout and legs like a baby giraffe’s. That seems to be quite important too.

Rosie’s support “team” is her mum, who she attributes for her success and drive as a young model. She told Britain’s ELLE magazine: “My mother inspires me. She’s been the driving force behind me the whole way and I strive to make her proud. I’m always drawn to women who are strong, independent, individual, who have an air of mystery about them and who aren’t afraid of their sexuality.”

Daisy Lowe’s parents were embarrassed by her nude Playboy pics

By emilyborrett on August 22nd, 2011

Daisy Lowe has revealed that her parents were a little less than thrilled when she modelled nude for Playboy magazine.

We’re quite surprised at Daisy’s ‘rents reaction, as we thought Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale would be pretty liberal when it came to letting it all hang out. But Daisy said: “My gran was cool and said, ‘If you’ve got it, flaunt it’. But mum and dad weren’t so impressed.”

Daisy herself was also a little daunted when the raunchy photoshoot hit the shelves, as it hadn’t really yet occurred to her that the whole world would be able to see the photos. She said: “When I did the shoot it was just me and the photographer. I didn’t think about the whole world seeing me naked. Everyone can see me.” But that’s how it works, Daisy!

However, Daisy’s had some support about her modelling for Playboy, as her boyfriend and Doctor Who star Matt Smith has been all for it. Matt told the Daily Star: “I was really proud of her. She looked amazing.”

All together now- aaaaawwww.

Daisy Lowe praises her mum Pearl’s designs for Peacocks as they “flatter the female form”

By emilyborrett on August 19th, 2011

Daisy Lowe has said that she loves her mum Pearl’s designs for Peacocks as they flatter the female form.

Daisy, who has modelled for Agent Provocateur in the past, is thrilled to model for Pearl Lowe’s collections because they flatter her curvy, feminine figure. She told Vogue: “I love the spotted dress because it’s easy to throw on every day for any occasion. Mum makes dresses that flatter the female form.”

The latest collection designed by Pearl Lowe, of which there have now been seven, consists of six vintage-inspired dresses. Pearl has listed her inspirations behind the new designs as Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks.

Pearl said on the new designs: “In the 40s, people had to make their own dresses, so everything was so original and beautifully made. The prints, however, were inspired by my favourite singer Stevie Nicks. I predict the black dress with the white lace trim to be another sell out, as it’s a follow on from last year’s black dress with the lace collar that sold out in a week.”

Josephine De La Baume finds Agent Provocateur undies “empowering”

By emilyborrett on August 15th, 2011

Josephine De La Baume has spoken out about her experience fronting an Agent Provocateur campaign – and the French superbeauty loved it.

Josephine, who is an actress/model and also the gorgeous fiancée of Mark Ronson, found that doing the raunchy AP photoshoot made her feel sexy, powered and confident, as she felt that the lingerie that she modelled showed off the best parts of her figure.

She said: “I worked closely with Johan Renck, the director, so it felt like a collaboration. People say these brands objectify women, but I think Agent Provocateur is empowering. The clothes help you to carry your body with pride.”

I’d like to feel empowered with a little help from Agent Provocateur, but I can’t even afford a G-string from there – lucky old Josephine probably got to keep lots of knickers from the shoot. Looks like it’s empowered in Primark for me then..

Claudia Schiffer won’t return to the runway

By Andrea Petrou on March 8th, 2011

Claudia Schiffer says “nothing” could persuade her to walk the catwalk again.

The German supermodel – who gave birth to her third child last year – says she has no interest in strutting her stuff up and down runways as she doesn’t like all eyes to be on her.

When asked what would get her on the catwalk again she replied: “Nothing, definitely. Nobody believes me but I’m very shy – much better in small groups of people than on a stage with everybody looking at me. I understood that I had to do it when I was modelling but now, since I don’t have to do it, I’d rather not.

“Designers are very clever at trying to persuade me to do it each season and it’s flattering that they do, but nothing would change my mind.”

Instead, the 40-year-old beauty wants to concentrate on launching her debut cashmere collection with German knitwear brand Iris von Arnim (IvA).

She said: “I’d much rather be working on this new project anyway.”

“I want to meet all the press and buyers personally – it’s that kind of project.”

It was announced in November Claudia will help design the range, which will represent her personal ethos and style.

She said: “I have been looking for the right partnership for a very long time and I feel very lucky to have found it with IvA. We have the same inherent values and I was delighted to find a company that was able to interpret my vision.”

Kate Middleton’s sheer frock cost only £30 to make

By Andrea Petrou on November 25th, 2010

We’ve all seen the see through frock that many claim made Prince William fall for Kate Middleton. All those years ago – eight to be precise -we assumed the frock was a designer lovely that we could drawl over but never afford.

However, according to reports, the sheer strapless slip that the princess-to-be modelled at a St Andrews University student fashion actually only cost £30.

We wish we’d known that at the time and we would have fought tooth and nail to bag ourselves one of these, and a prince too, because Will’s was memorised by Kate. Sitting in the front row, he told friends: “Kate’s hot.” And it wasn’t long before they were a couple.

Former fashion student Charlotte Todd, who made the frock has already turned down an offer of £1000 for it but experts say the royal connection could make it worth £100,000.

Charlotte said: “The dress is part of fashion history – the moment William could first have fallen in love with Kate – and that makes me really proud.”

She’s the Royal’s very own fashion cupid.

Georgia May Jagger designs a range for Hudson Jeans

By Andrea Petrou on October 22nd, 2010

She’s got two famous parents and had her fair share of modelling jobs, so it was only a little bit of time before Geogia May Jagger hit the designing beat.

The young starlet and face of Rimmel has created a range for with denim label Hudson. According to Vogue, Hudson by Georgia May Jagger will land in stores in spring 2011.

Georgia has been off our fashion radars for a few months after leaving the glamour behind to concentrate on her A-levels, which she did extremely well in getting A’s and B’s. However she made an exception to shoot the Hudson autumn/winter 2010 campaign in New York.

We can’t wait to get a peek at her new range.

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is no stranger to ad campaigns. However, she must be exceptionally proud of her latest signing.

The star has been announced as the new face of preppy brand Lacoste’s new fragrance. But what makes this extra special is that it’s the first time the brand has used a female celebrity face.

The perfume is set to launch in January next year and we can imagine the ads are going to be great. You only have to look at Alexa’s shoots for Pepe to know that.

Andre Leon Talley once said that she should be a model, and ended up recruiting her for a national TV spot. Although it resulted in her falling on her backside in front of millions of morning show viewers, Whitney Port certainly has what it takes to step onto the runway.
