Roland Mouret refuses to have a muse for his designs

By emilyborrett on September 8th, 2011

The fashion designer Roland Mouret has revealed that he refuses to take a muse as inspiration for his designs, as he prefers to be inspired by a variety of different women at once.

His celebrity fans will be weeping into their designer hankies at this news. I bet Victoria Beckham and Kate Middleton are dying to take up permanent residence as a Roland Mouret muse, but the designer says this will never happen.

He told vogue.co.uk: “I design for any woman. I don’t like muses, if you have a muse you put someone on a pedestal. I prefer seeing women as they are, I design for women who enjoy being women.”

One woman he does take a lot of inspiration from, however, is the American Wallis Simpson for whom King Edward abdicated his throne so he could marry her in 1936. All very dramatic and romantic, no?

Mouret gushed about Wallis Simpson: “”Physically, she was very skinny – it was the person that was really attractive – her charisma; how beautiful and sad her life was. She was sexy in a painful way; a painful sexiness. The clothes she wore were austere, but sensual. It was the movement of her body that made her attractive – she was like a perfume, or the way a veil moves – like a ghost almost.”

Well Roland, if you ever change your mind about needing a muse, I can be available whenever you like. Just putting that out there..

John Galliano considers Kate Moss his biggest muse

By Andrea Petrou on July 5th, 2011

John Galliano considers Kate Moss his biggest muse.

The troubled fashion designer – who created the oyster silk wedding dress worn for her nuptials to rocker Jamie Hince last week – was “never” going to let her down, despite his personal problems, including his recent sacking at French fashion house Dior for proclaiming he “loved” Adolf Hitler.

A source said: “Kate is his biggest muse and he was never, ever, going to let his friend down. He did Kate’s 21st birthday dress, her 30th birthday dress and Galliano’s show was the first she ever walked for. So this wedding day ties up a lot of things beautifully.”

British designer Alice Temperley recently revealed she thought the 37-year-old model would set a trend with her dress, whatever she chose to wear.

She said: “I am certain she will look absolutely stunning, unique, beautiful with a bit of a rock ‘n’ roll twist. I would love to see her in something vintage looking, romantic and slightly bohemian.

“However, whatever she chooses, she will look fantastic and I am sure women will want to wear something similar to their weddings for years to come.”

Karl Lagerfeld’s women: Lou Doillon

By emilyborrett on April 30th, 2011

Soft and delicate in pale silk at Cannes Film Festival, we think Lou can pull of fairy-esque prettiness just as well as her trademark leather and lace

It’s going to be hard to come back down to Earth after yesterday’s Royal Wedding madness (didn’t Kate Middleton look beautiful, just like a 21st century Grace Kelly?) but, alas, life goes on, and it’s time that we tidy our Union Jack bunting away. Our thoughts are travelling back to Paris today to take a look at one of France’s most beautiful, rock and roll fashion enigmas – Lou Doillon, daughter of style icon Jane Birkin and one of Karl Lagerfeld’s fabulous couture-clad harem.

Always seen in attendance at Chanel’s most exclusive dinners, cocktail parties and launches, and often hanging off the arm of Herr Lagerfeld himself, the actress is a strong patron of Chanel and lends the label’s designs attitude and edge in bucketfuls. With her shaggy brunette hair, French smile and razor-sharp cheekbones, Doillon’s is a face that you couldn’t mistake anywhere whether it’s at a Vogue party or in the front rows at Paris Fashion Week. She is, by the way, always at the front row at PFW – we want this girl’s life so much! Oh, and did we mention that she is the muse for Givenchy?

So many celebrities at the moment try hard to work the European bohemian look, but it is obvious from Lou’s family roots that this is one girl that doesn’t have to try hard at all.

With Jane Birkin as her mother and French director Jacques Doillon, it’s obvious that this is one actress with first-hand experience with the bohemian lifestyle. We’re completely in love with her nonchalant laid-back style, and it’s clear to see why Karl is too. Check out our gallery for our favourite Lou Doillon looks.
