Fashion For Relief Announcement 2010 - Photocall

Politician’s wives are fast becoming regulars on our fashion radars and we’ve regularly featured many an outfit worn by US first lady Michelle Obama and our own home grown Samantha Cameron.

However this time it’s Sarah Brown that’s popped her head over the fashion parapet.

The Prime Ministers wife has teamed up with Naomi Campbell to launch this year’s annual Fashion for Relief event, which will see a range of models and celebs strutting their stuff in designer outfits, which will then be auctioned off for charity.

This year, the event, which was launched by Sarah and Naomi, along with Erin O’Connor and Yasmin le Bon, and will take place on the 18th February, will raise money to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Schiffer has told WWD that she has shot campaigns for YSL, Dolce & Gabbana and Salvatore Ferragamo for the spring.

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed YSL’s spring campaign in Los Angeles last month.

Even at the celebratory Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards last night, the memory of legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent was not far from the industry’s mind.

Inspired by Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking Suit and one of the night’s winners, Ashley Olsen donned a Calvin Klein resort 09 tuxedo. Naomi Campbell topped that by wearing vintage YSL, and CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg also wore the symbolic style including a vintage YSL jacket.

Even if the show doesn’t go on, we’ll still have Elton John’s Oscar party

By Andrea Thatcher on January 10th, 2008

Elton%20John.jpg

On Monday we told you that sadly the Golden Globes would not be going ahead due to the ongoing writers’ strike. What if the Oscars are next?! Although we’re sympathetic to the writers’ cause, we couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed about the lack of red carpet action. But maybe there will be some stylish action…

Elton John and David Furnish have announced that despite the possible lack of awards ceremony their annual Oscar party and charity event for his Aids Foundation (sponsored by Chophard and VH1) must definitely go on.

The girls over at sister-site Catwalk Queen have been busy choosing their favorite dresses from last night’s 7th on Sale gala, and we’re ready to do the same. The three day sample sale was kicked off in glamorous style with Elle Macpherson, Valentino Garavani, Iman, and Kate Moss on the red carpet. It was classic black for these fashion big names, no toying with colours. Elle wore a simple strapless black dress, with pleated detail on the hip, while Iman’s dress featured tiers of ruffles, with metallic silver accents and a sheer top. Valentino and Kate prefered sleek black blazers, well Valentino is actually wearing a three-piece suit.

Diversity in the fashion industry–how much does it even exist?

By Andrea Thatcher on September 17th, 2007

Blacks%20in%20Fashion%20panel%20discussion.JPG
Wow, I was amazed after reading the WWD article, “Little Diversity in Fashion: African-Americans Bemoan Their Absence in Industry,” how few black models there were in Fashion Week. Of the 101 shows and presentations posted on Style.com, 31 appear to have no black models. But it’s true–it’s almost as if you get so used to the standard pale-skin model, that it’s like a mannequin walking down the runway, rather than people who play a part in society. I mean, to say nothing of the leggy, stick-thin, 16-year-old bodies, which definitely don’t represent how the majority of women look, why should the fashion industry get away with discrimination as well? Well, they shouldn’t.
