Purses at the ready ladies, especially those of you who like a designer bargain.
Today Narciso Rodriguez has launched an exclusive collection on eBay for those of us mourning the loss of designer creations in our wardrobe due to the credit crunch.
The collection priced from £40 – £225 includes fitted dresses, simple, sleek tailoring and contemporary classics, which will fill the designer wardrobe gap for a good few months.
Rodriguez said, “I am extremely excited by the possibilities that this new online sales channel brings to my business long term.
“For me it’s always been about dressing many women of all ages, all types, all sizes, and this special collection on eBay is a unique opportunity to reach a broad global audience.”
The range is available in sizes 4 to 18, but you better get those fingers on your keyboards now as we don’t think this collection will stay around for long.
While at the CFDA Awards on Monday night, Claire Danes let slip that she will be wearing a Narciso Rodriguez gown for her forthcoming wedding to Hugh Dancy.
The actress attended the awards with Rodriguez and revealed their plans to create her bridal dress.
“He’s making it. I get weepy… more emotional than I was expecting,” she said of the process. “I’m collaborating a little bit, but I’m just trusting him implicitly. I’m offing my ideas, but they always pale in comparison to his.”
“She’s an extraordinary woman inside and out,” Rodriguez gushed of his friend. “That always comes through. You can’t hide it. I just try to make her look more beautiful.”
Aww… isn’t it all just one big love-fest?

When the First Lady of America met the First Lady of France…
Two of the world’s leading style mavens have come together again in honor of the D-Day landing memorial in Normandy. Dressed in matching cream ensembles, Michelle Obama opted for a nylon crepe dress by Narciso Rodriguez matched with a metallic belt. While Carla Bruni-Sarkozy went with her old favourite, Christian Dior, in a similar ivory frock, accessorized with a black skinny belt. Sadly, both ladies were harshly criticized by the press for choosing to wear pale colours at such a sombre event. I think this is silly, but more importantly – who do you think has the fashionable edge?
Things were of a very sharp, sartorial nature at the Narciso Rodriguez fall ’09 show on Tuesday evening. Dipping into the future (like so many designers this season) his models took to the catwalk in robot-style peek-a-boo headwear. Body-con dresses in acid yellow, shocking pink and neon purple offered a hint of skin in sliced sections. They were thrown alongside more tailored, conservative looks in camel coats and tweed skirt suits. Jackets also ranged from jaquard to mohair with full-length zips. Besides a hint of Gothic lace and a shiny corset here and there, the most daring was left to a camouflage black-and-white print worked into dresses, trousers, boots and just about everything else. Yet more celebs were taking up valuable spots on the front row yesterday…but I suppose it could be worse. I’d rather have stylish celebs to gawk at than children (and there are always children). Narciso’s sometime muse Claire Danes was flanked by glam new mom Jessica Alba and actress Julianna Margulies. Meanwhile Kelly Osbourne was front row at Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Max Azria pulled in Natasha Bedingfield, Zoe Saldana, Tinsley Mortimer, Eva Amurri and Michelle Trachtenberg.
It seems that many celebrities are looking to supplement incomes affected by the writer’s strike, either asking flat out for money, flights, and hotels in return for attending shows or even saying they’ll only attend if they can get a contract for an ad campaign.
“Gone are the days when celebrities came to the shows in exchange for a wardrobe,” Alison Brod, of Alison Brod Public Relations, said to WWD. “They want to make money.”
This fall, platform heels remain chic while becoming more streamlined and less clunky. The pair above is from Narciso Rodriguez’s fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection. The peep toe, black leather, and large buckle give the shoe a tough rocker look. For a cheaper, similar shoe try the pair at right from Dru NY found at UrbanOutfitters.com for $150. The patent leather T-strap and platform heel will also give you that rocker vibe while keeping your precious little toes warm as the weather cools.
