The long black dress was at the centre of the fashion world yesterday as celebrities opted for this look at a range of events.
Channelling the look over in the US was Nicole Richie who went for a simple plunge neck version for the 15th Annual Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards.
She was joined at the event by Agyness Deyn who opted for the long black frock in a see through lace version. Over at the MLS Western Conference Championship Victoria Beckham went for a black frock, while baby Harper Seven dressed in grey for the event.
And it was the same fashion story in London with Amber and Yasmin Le Bon both opting for black dresses at the Harpers Bazaar Women of the Year Awards. Amber channelled the lace look while her mother stuck to a classic asymmetric strapless look.
They were joined by Natalia Vordinova who spiced up the back dress with a velvet bustier look. However some celebrities stood out from the black dress crowd. Jessie J went for an 80s look of a blue jumpsuit at gauche gold jacket, while Coco Rocha also went for blue in a strapless dress at the Harpers Bazaar Women of the Year Awards.
It was a white night yesterday as celebrities and models descended on the White Fairy Tale Ball at the Chateau De Wideville in Paris.
The event, which coincides with Paris Haute Couture week, was set up by Valentino and Natalia Vodianova as part of the Naked Heart Foundation charity.
It enticed Anne Hathaway who looked stunning in an ethereal long frock with a floral headpiece, while Olivia Palermo went for a silver woven white dress for the event.
Although she didn’t keep in with the white theme Eva Herzigova looked lovely in a sleek black dress, while Natalia Vodianova also decided to stand out in a gorgeous red dress.
Natalia Vodianova is no stranger to charitable events. She ran the French half marathon earlier this year to raise money for charity and also has her own initiative -the Naked Heart Foundation.
And now it seems she’s continuing the good work. The model has been announced as the new face of (Bugaboo)RED – a new Product(Red) initiative by the pram manufacturer, which aims to help raise funds and awareness for Aids victims.
She told Vogue: “HIV and Aids make children very vulnerable.
“The disease is a very smart enemy of the human race and the fact that children are born carrying this enemy makes me feel sick.”
The Bugaboo(Red) campaign has already covered the cost of providing medication to almost 18,000 pregnant women to reduce the risk of transmission of HIV from mother to child.
“These days, if you don’t take a socially responsible position, you’re out of the club.
“If you’re going to have a multi-million pound party, you should have a very good reason to do it, attach it to a charity; give back to the community.”

Could Lara Stone be losing her Louis Vuitton campaign crown next season?
According to the fashion rumour mill the model du jour, who took over from Madonna, won’t be returning for the brand’s A/W 2010 range.
Instead the gossip grapevine is suggesting it will be Christy Turlington and Natalia Vodianova who will replace Lara.
A source for the brand said: “Steven Meisel will shoot the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 Campaign featuring Christy Turlingtoand; Natalia Vodianova. Styling by Karl Temper.”
Models turning into designers are no longer huge news to us, because lets face it, a lot of them are doing it. Next up on the designing bandwagon is Eva Herzigova .
The former supermodel and face of Wonderbra has signed a two year designing deal with French brand 1.2.3.
According to WWD, the collection, which launches in Paris today will include 30 classic and timeless pieces including trench, nautical and fitted styles in a range of pastel colours.
Eva said: It’s a lot about the people, who they are, what they want from you and what I want to get across; this is the best match.”
And she won’t just be behind the scenes, she’ll also be modelling the collection too.
Laurent Michior, deputy managing director of 1.2.3, which is owned by Etam and already has Natalia Vodianova as a designer, said Eva will create two collections each season for the next two years. We can’t wait to see the designs.
With Sport Relief airing today many of us will have the urge to copy many of the celebrities taking part and get fit in one way or the other.
If, like us, you have problems with your running shoes and can’t quite find that perfect pair then why not follow in the footsteps of Natalia Vodianova , Victoria Beckham and Mel C and opt for tailor made running insoles.
Profeet is a company that offers competitive athletes (it designed the insoles for Natalia’s Paris Semi Marathon trainers) and those of us who enjoy hitting the park or running machine a bespoke insole moulding, handcrafting and fitting service.
It involves a full run analysis, recorded on camera and via a pressure pad. Through this process, Profeet can precisely deconstruct the body’s movement in order to hand mould and manufacture the insoles on site to you a comfortable running experience.
Hmmmm now there’s no excuse to do that early morning jog.
We’ve known for a while that Stella McCartney was a genius (you only have to look at her designs to see it). However, just when we thought she couldn’t get anymore creative, she’s wowed us all over again.
For her new spring/summer 2010 campaign the designer has incorporated a picture of her old pet dalmatian, which was taken by her mother in 1976, with the clothes from her latest collection modelled by Natalia Vodianova.
Stella said the new campaign was: “Fashion meets reportage, mixing color, and black-and-white. A family animal with an outside atmosphere meets studio lights, camera, action!”
Many of us have a fashion icon that we look up to in some way or other. Sometimes its lusting over their hair, sometimes we want their eyes (not literally) and other times we wish we had their figures.
Love Magazine obviously agrees with us because for its third bi-annual edition its created eight different covers each showing a different model, who are claimed to represent our ideal of beauty in the fashion industry.
The models shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott include Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lara Stone, Jeneil Williams, Amber Valletta, Daria Werbowy, Kristen Mcmenamy and Natalia Vodianova.
Katie Grand, editor-in-chief at Love, told Vogue: “For this issue of LOVE, we took eight women who are generally acknowledged as the most beautiful in the world, got them to show off their bodies – widely regarded as the most perfect in the world – and photographed them all in exactly the same position for the cover.
“We did this to show how much they differed physically from one another, which is why we also printed their measurements.”
Yesterday we told you about Prada’s way of standing out from the designer crowd by using a model instead of a celebrity and it seems other fashion houses have the same idea.
Paris designer YSL has today officially announced that Russian model Natalia Vodianova will be replacing (older) supermodel Christy Turlinton for its 2010 Spring range.
And that’s not all. It seems Natalie is also destined to deal with Stella McCartney and could front the stylish British brand after she made her only catwalk appearance in September for the label.
With so many high profile jobs under her tiny belt this is one model to keep an eye on.
In the lead-up to the MET Costume Institute Gala next month, Vogue has paid tribute to ‘The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion’ – this year’s gala theme. Photographed by Steven Meisel, the lucky models to land the cover include (from left to right): Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Maria Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini, and Natasha Poly. It also is the third consecutive American Vogue cover to feature a black woman (Michelle Obama and Beyonce were the previous two). But what really has me excited is what’s inside the issue – an editorial shoot starring this year’s gala co-chairs Kate Moss, Justin Timberlake and Marc Jacobs (but more on that later!).
Gossip Girl star Blake Lively was experiencing her first haute couture shows this week, and what an experience this one must have been for a novice. We think Blake looks lovely and surprisingly young in this. Of course she is young, but her look usually has such an edge to it, going for the hipster, world-weary vibe of her character Serena, this dress looks so innocent and fresh on her. We like it.
