Jean Paul Gaultier thinks Anna Wintour is “monstrous”

By Andrea Petrou on October 13th, 2011

US Vogue editor Anna Wintour

Jean Paul Gaultier thinks Anna Wintour is “monstrous”.

The flamboyant French designer insists he wasn’t a fan of fashion movie The Devil Wears Prada – which is thought to be based on the US Vogue editor and her offices – because he doesn’t think it was true to life.

He said: “Anna Wintour is a lot more monstrous than she is described.

“Is she a positive figure [in fashion]? She is a figure.”

Jean Paul also spoke of his sadness about John Galliano – who was recently found guilty of racist and anti-Semitic behaviour and was sacked from Dior and his eponymous label John Galliano – and what he has lost because of the incident.

He added: “I know John a little and I must say that what he does for his work shows he is not a racist.

“When you see the video you can see it is someone teasing him… John is very talented. He has done some beautiful things for Dior.

“I think it is completely sad he doesn’t have his own label anymore. I think it’s bad. There are some people who say and do terrible things and they are not even punished for it.”

Drew Barrymore’s mixture of glamour

By Andrea Petrou on July 26th, 2011
Drew Barrymore was chosen as the face of Neiman Marcus’ The Art of Fashion campaign because she mixes old Hollywood and modern day glamour.

The actress – who is only the second celebrity to feature in the promotional shots for the department store, following Jennifer Jason Leigh in 1994 – has posed in designs from labels including Akris and Valentino for the new campaign.

Eddie Nunns, vice president of Neiman Marcus brand creative, told WWD: “The shoot tells the story of a star’s transformation. We felt that Drew Barrymore possessed not only the pedigree and glamour of old Hollywood, but also the confidence and spirit of the modern-day woman – much like Neiman Marcus itself.

“She’s a powerful, modern woman with trans-generational appeal. The project beautifully captures the essence of Neiman Marcus’s edits of the fall collections.”

Photographer Norman Jean Roy has taken the pictures which will appear in the September issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair and W.

Neiman Marcus Christmas book.jpg

If you’re moving a little slow this Monday morning, get your creative (and consumerist) juices flowing with the Neiman Marcus Christmas book. Since the book is always fantasy for us, the economic downturn and falling sales of luxury goods don’t diminish our enjoyment of the catalog one bit.

For notables from this year’s offerings, keep reading. We’ll whet your appetite with these options – a lifesize replica of yourself made out of LEGO bricks and a luxury wedding package beginning at $1.3 million, and one gift costing $10 million.

Vera Wang belted tank dress

By Andrea Thatcher on November 20th, 2007

verawangtankdress.jpgLook radiant in this Vera Wang belted tank dress. And best of all, it has pockets–I’m so into dresses with pockets right now. They’re a top trend I can’t get enough of. I don’t know exactly what it is–maybe I just like having a place to put my hands or the convenience of a quick cell phone pocket–but I hope dress pockets don’t go away anytime soon. The box-cut neckline and gathered bust make this dress extremely flattering, and the fitted cut with belt adds just the right touch of sexy. And of course, it’s a perfect look for a holiday cocktail party. Make it yours at Neiman Marcus for $475.

The excitement surrounding their first collection ‘The Row’ has barely even settled and yet the hardest working twins in Tinsel town, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, are busy unveiling their latest fashion line ‘Elizabeth and James’ .

The tiny siblings officially unveiled their newest range in L.A. before heading to Neiman Marcus in New York this week. “It was amazing, because it’s something we worked so hard on, and for the first time, we actually got to see a response,” Ashley told USA Today.

Manolo%20resort.jpg

I guess if you can afford Manolo Blahniks there’s actually a good chance that you require a resort wardrobe for the winter. These babies actually run $565 – $665 which is comparatively more affordable than many high-end heels these days. With retailers predicting slow holiday spending, maybe these prices are meant to coerce luxury spenders into buying more. Keep reading for the details on each shoe.

Nanette Lepore Tweed Bubble Coat

By Elaine LaPersonerie on October 1st, 2007

NLT17J8_mn.jpg
I’ve been looking at fall coats–although the weather in NYC has been more bikini-like as of late! I love this Nanette Lepore tweed bubble coat for $495. The notched collar and large button front remind me of an old cardigan sweater and the long bubble sleeves are super fun and stylish. It doesn’t look like it’s so warm, so I doubt it would work past mid-November, but it’s just such a great coat. Nanette Lepore is one of my favorite designers. Her collections are always really feminine and flirtatious–two characteristics every woman needs!

Fall Fashion Pick of the Week #2: Sequin dresses from $27.80 to $790

By Andrea Thatcher on September 25th, 2007

sequin%20dresses%20for%20fall.JPGSequin dresses for evening wear are huge this season. So, I’ve gathered a collection of eight shining styles to meet budgets across the board–from low-end, but still chic Forever 21 to mid-range of around $200 to high-end, designer dresses over $400. The first dress on the left is a sequin baby doll dress from Forever 21–very cute, yet sexy at the same time. The next dress is a hot, young As U Wish sequin tube dress from Nordstrom for $54. Or, if you want to go more sophisticated, try the mid-range Quotation black sequin-trim dress (mid-right) from Bloomingdale’s for $178. My favorite is the Sean Collection sequin corkscrew-hem cocktail dress (right) for $266. The long flowy tendrils at the bottom give it such a glamorous look! Go to the jump for fabulous high-end sequin dresses.

Toronto International Film Festival: hot talent and cool style

By Andrea Thatcher on September 13th, 2007

lauren2.jpgIt was a dark and stormy night at the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of The Babysitters. The movie was twisted and sultry–go see it! Afterward, I got to chat with some of the actors, including John Leguizamo and director David Ross. I also got to chat with Lauren Birkell, a hot starlet in the making and one of the female leads, not to mention one of the nicest people I have ever met under the klieg lights. Lauren wore a sexy V-necked navy silk dress from Catherine Malandrino’s Pre-Fall collection. She looked amazing! Lauren prepared for the part by ‘acting bitchy in the mirror.’ You can find Catherine’s collections at Neiman Marcus and also at her Web site.
