New York Fashion Week: Jayson Brunsdon’s Hong Kong inspiration

By Andrea Thatcher on September 12th, 2007

Jayson Brunsdon, renowned Australian designer, brought his spring/summer ’08 sleek designs, bold colors and Asian prints to the New York fashion scene last night. Inspired by the iconic novel and cult film, The World of Suzie Wong, and the influence modern China is having on global culture, Jayson based his shapes and prints from Chinese pajamas, mandarin collars, and coolie suits. His modern take on traditional Chinese calligraphy, bamboo, and blossoms create a fabulous, unique look. The colors he applied—from red to yellow to green to persimmon—were evoked by the vigor of Bruce Lee’s classic films of the ’60s and ’70s. Cute cropped plaid jacket from Forever 21

The Budget Fashionista, another great fashion blog, showed a super cute plaid jacket from Chloé (above), priced at a rent breaking $2,270 at Neiman Marcus, and a just-as-cute version from Nordstrom for only $78. Since plaid continues to be in this fall and since I’m a poor New Yorker who can’t afford even $78 for a jacket, I bring you the cheaper cheap version of the Chloé jacket. This plaid jacket from Forever 21’s Heritage 1981 collection is only $22! It’s like a downtown version of Chloé’s uptown look and you can buy it while still affording to keep your electricity on.
