LFW highlights: Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane showed us at Fashion Week today just exactly why he’s one of the country’s favourite current designers. The fashion world’s only just getting over his disgustingly gorgeous, flower-embroidered leather collection and then BOOM! - along comes SS2011 to make us all dribble and ache with clothes lust.
Kane’s choice of colour in his designs have all been a bit “femme fatale” and gothy of late, with lots of wine reds and dark sumptuous leathers, but he seems to have revisited old collections for inspiration for this coming Spring. For those of you that remember, his explosion onto the fashion scene was a riot of traffic-stopping neon brights, sheer lace and as much bodycon as a girl can handle. It was the one good thing to come out of 2006′s “New Rave” phase – everybody wanted one of those dresses. Now Kane’s gone back to having fun with colours similar to those that we first saw on his catwalks, but with a more grown-up twist. Instead of tight crotch-skimming dresses that are only suitable for giraffes and the under-21s, hemlines are soft, floaty and just above the knee. Very ladylike and true to the current 1960s trend – but in eye-watering neon fabrics, it’s far from old-fashioned.
If I have my way I’ll be wearing his dresses to tea parties next Spring. Which I probably won’t. But a girl can dream.
