Diane von Furstenberg settles out of court for copying

Diane von Furstenberg, who has strived for copyright inclusion as part of her role as CFDA president, has settled out of court after being accused of improper copying. DvF will now pay the designers of Mercy of Canada an undisclosed sum and will stop using the copied jacket design. Some might recall that the garment was actually pulled by Whitney Port on The City for the March ’09 cover of Elle.

“While this is an isolated incident for DVF, it is unfortunate that way too many others intentionally build businesses by stealing the work of other designers,” von Furstenberg said.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Balenciaga Derby shearling high heels

So we know it’s us, and not Nicolas Ghesquiere, but we’re not totally getting Balenciaga’s shoes as of late. These derby shearling high heels for instance, when we think of them in terms of Carrie wearing something like them in a fictional Sex and the City world we get it. But then we think about the real world we live in, and we don’t. Do you? Yay or Nay?
