Paris Fashion Week highlights: Nina Ricci

By Andrea Petrou on October 1st, 2010

While Balmain went for punk, Nina Ricci went for pink.

Flowing dresses, feathers, ruffles and lace all marched down the catwalk

Feathers, ruffles and lace, coated in pastel colours swirled down the catwalk. However, before we could get sick from all the sugar sweet creations the trends changed. Belted silhouettes, the occasional jarring colour combo and a graphic moment in a black dress and skirt crisscrossed with asymmetric lace did this.

There was also a sporty look incorporating trench coats over shorts and a leather Peter Pan collar jacket.

Rochas Revived for Ready to Wear

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 9th, 2008

rex_576643d.jpgRochas looks set to be revived after owner Procter & Gamble Co. signed a global agreement with Italy’s Gibò Co. SpA to launch a ready-to-wear label.

The move comes two years after it was closed down due to losing profits. The first ready-to-wear collection is tipped for March 2009, but a creative director is yet to be announced.

“We are still evaluating the designer amidst a pool of candidates because the agreement was just finalised on Monday,” said Gibò president Franco Penè.

Weekend Update: what we missed including Project Runway scoop

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 29th, 2008

Weekend update collage.jpg

While sleeping in, going out and changing our wardrobes over from summer to fall, the fashion world kept churning.

Paris Fashion Week is in full swing, check out photo galleries of Nina Ricci, above right, top, and Gareth Pugh.
We love the Rodarte-heavy editorial spread in Italian Velvet Magazine posted on Foto Decadent, above left. Shot by James Macari, styled by Sabrina Vanotti and starring Eniko Mihalik, it kind of rivals that Steven Klein shoot in American Vogue for Rodarte mesh tights usage.
NBC rather quietly won its injunction against producers at The Weinstein Company for trying to take Project Runway to Lifetime. Fashionista breaks it down.

Leighton Meester, uptown sophisticate in Nina Ricci

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on August 12th, 2008

Leighton Meester Van Cleef copy.jpg

A lot of times we’re a little disappointed with actress Leighton Meester’s style compared to her on-screen character Blair. We know it isn’t fair to expect Leighton to be Blair, but… that doesn’t stop us.

But she did not disappoint in this beautiful Nina Ricci dress. She even takes it up a notch with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry and Christian Louboutin heels and clutch.

It’s very modern-day Audrey and the way we wish Leighton would dress all the time. It wouldn’t hurt her image to differentiate herself as much as possible from boho hottie costar Blake Lively, and this glamorous look is the way to do it.

One way fashion benefits from writers strike? More celebs in the front row

By Andrea Thatcher on January 29th, 2008

Ellen%20Pompeo.jpg

The Grey’s Anatomy stars seem to have been the first to confirm their fashion show attendance. We’ve already reported that Chandra Wilson and Sara Ramirez will be at the Angel Sanchez show, and now Ellen Pompeo is reported to be showing up for Y-3 after attending Giorgio Armani Prive in Paris last week. She is seen at the SAG awards at left in a Nina Ricci creation she supposedly picked from the pages of Vogue magazine.

It seems that many celebrities are looking to supplement incomes affected by the writer’s strike, either asking flat out for money, flights, and hotels in return for attending shows or even saying they’ll only attend if they can get a contract for an ad campaign.

“Gone are the days when celebrities came to the shows in exchange for a wardrobe,” Alison Brod, of Alison Brod Public Relations, said to WWD. “They want to make money.”

Lori Levine, of talent booking firm Flying Television, told WWD that Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen and Narciso Rodriguez are always popular with celebs. She expects stars with strong relationships with designers – like Jessica Simpson at Michael Kors, Claire Danes at Narciso Rodriguez and Teri Hatcher at Badgley Mischka, to be out en force.
