Bargain Pick of the Week: Old Navy canvas peacoat

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 13th, 2008

Bargain POTW old navy jacket.jpg

This Old Navy canvas peacoat is perfect for today’s rainy, dreary weather on the East Coast. If it’s particularly chilly, the coat is roomy enough to layer under, and then you can just add a scarf on top.

While we chose the neutral bone color, there are also fun options like purple and green if you’re looking for something more bold.

The best part? Right now it’s only $25. Old Navy has up to 50 percent off all outerwear this week, and we’re guessing prices will remain low once the cold snaps really hit.

If your part of the country is already snapping – there’s wool versions of the peacoat under $50 as well.

Pick of the blogs: a fashion research machine, girls get Grey Gardens and costumery

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 30th, 2008

It’s great when retailers realize that not everyone who wants to dress stylishly (and affordably) is size 12 and under, and even better when they celebrate their plus-size-only collections like Old Navy. [FabSugar]

By Andrea Thatcher on May 21st, 2008

Banana Republic copy.jpg

I headed to the Banana Republic site to make a birthday suggestion or two to the hubby (love this necklace, sweetie, xoxo thx!) and what was I greeted with but this orange screen telling me about the “new way to shop” Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap, and Piperlime online.

Old Navy enamel bangles

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 6th, 2008

Bangles.jpg

Old Navy has knocked off their own version of the enamel bangles everyone from Coach to Kenneth Jay Lane has offered lately, with pretty cute results!

The bangles range from $7.50 to $12.50, and could easily slip onto a wristful of pricier pieces without notice.

Or buy a few of these to get you in the mood for spring, and start you on your way to embracing the bright color trend.

Fewer fleeces and more fashion at Old Navy?

By Andrea Thatcher on January 28th, 2008

fleece.jpg

Looks like Old Navy is looking to shed its image as a fleecy family outfitter. In today’s WWD, Old Navy says it wants to share “big fashion ideas” and target more fashion-forward twenty-somethings.

As a somewhat fashion-forward twenty-something, my interest in piqued, but I’m a little suspicious. Hasn’t Gap Inc., the Old Navy parent company, told us time and time again they were revamping with a more fashionable image?

But according to executives a new marketting campaign with more stylish celebs and models will be just the beginning, ON also plans faster turnover, wardrobe-building pieces, store renovations and a new logo.

Bargain Pick of the Week: Old Navy floral print cardigan

By Andrea Thatcher on January 24th, 2008

Old%20Navy%20cardigan.jpg

I’m enjoying the current wave of printed cardigans, and this Old Navy floral print cardigan is no exception. Most of the really lovely options have been from higher end designers, or J.Crew on the cheaper side, which we all know isn’t that cheap. Old Navy is, though! This cardigan comes in a bunch of different colors and is only $29.50. A printed cardi is just as polished and more stylish than a standard twin set, so if you’ve yet to add one to your wardrobe this could be it.

One winter necessity – the scarf – goes high fashion

By Andrea Thatcher on October 29th, 2007

Scarves.jpg

The Washington Post is of the mind that the scarves on Balenciaga‘s fall runways are going to change the way we look at and wear the accessories this winter. While the look on the left is perhaps an accurate portrayal of what East Coasters end up looking like in the winter, we’re thinking that without the uber-tailored look, 6-foot frame, and designer styling (and with snot frozen to your face) it’s not going to look so fashionable and suggest trying to emulate the look on the right. For the details on the wrappers we’ve chosen, keep reading.

“America’s Next Top Model”: first girl sent home

By Andrea Thatcher on September 27th, 2007

America%27s%20Next%20Top%20Model_Mila.JPG
This cycle’s second episode of “Top Model” was all about ‘going green’ and making a statement–not just about fashion. The girls had to pose in a controversial first photo shoot to campaign against smoking. The girls’ first shot was a glamorous photo of them smoking, but their reflection in the mirror showed the horrible effects of their smoking. Most took the shoot seriously and tapped into their emotions really well to create a tragic look. Although Mila still produced a good tragic photo, she couldn’t take the shoot seriously because of the crazy hair style she had to wear , which sadly, is reminiscent of what it could be like to lose your hair after chemotherapy.
