Hailee looked like romantic 1950s perfection in this soft-pink full-skirted prom dress with a classic updo, at the Academy Awards this year
Is it just us here at ShinyStyle, or is all the talent in Hollywood getting younger and younger? Justin Bieber has had a film made about him when his voice hasn’t even broken yet, Willow Smith is storming the charts at age 11 and we’ve just realised that not only is the teenage True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld an amazing actress, but she’s already got a Hollywood wardrobe good enough to rival any older actress’.
We love that unlike other young girls in the limelight like Miley Cyrus, who have already gone down the vomit-inducing sexy route with tight dresses and big hair, Hailee closely follows the trends and wears what suits her. The 14-year old actress has already developed a strong sense of her own style, combining romantic cocktail dresses with fiercely high heels and vintage-inspired prim blouses and power-pencil skirts.
We especially adored her outfit that she wore to the Academy Awards this year, as she donned a gently sparkling peach chiffon 50s prom dress with nude satin peeptoe heels and an elegant updo for an outfit that wouldn’t have looked out of place at a couture gala sixty years ago.
Miu Miu are particularly fond of young Hailee – maybe it’s because she’s always spotted wearing their designs, or maybe it’s just because she’s a pretty young thing, but she’s now the face of their new campaign. Jealous? Us? Naaaah.

The Lebanese fashion designer, Elie Saab, has admitted that he much prefers to see actresses and celebrities wearing his designs instead of models, because they are much more like “real women”.
His collections are well known for their sparkle-encrusted feminine dresses, and have been favoured for the red carpet in the past by the likes of Emma Watson, Rihanna, Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. Saab feels that women like these “do justice” to his designs.
He explained to Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Unlike the catwalk, where the 17-year-old models are so tall, the red carpet is like a podium for real life – it means so much more to me to see them in my dresses.”
We’re real women! Just send us a dress and we’ll wear it for you! Might have to take it up a couple of sizes though..

It may not be the end of the year, or in anticipation for the next awards event, but let’s be honest, we really don’t need an excuse to put together a list of red carpet award dresses.
This year an abundance of A-listers have turned up to celebrate key red carpet award events including the BAFTAs, Oscars, Golden Globes and of course the Grammys. Each have chosen a frock, which they hope sets them apart from the rest, and while many did that, there, in our eyes can only be a top ten.
First up in our top ten is Angelina Jolie who looked stunning in a green sleeved Versace dress at the Golden Globes. Also sporting a best dress at this event was Christina Hendricks who showed off those enviable curves in a red frock.
Over at the Oscars, we had three ladies who really wowed. First up was Michelle Williams who went for a white dress with on trend beading and capped sleeves. She’s followed here by Helena Bonham Carter for her sheer eccentric black outfit, which she teamed up with glasses. Also at this awards event is the lovely Natalie Portman who showed off her baby bump in a cute scoop neck purple frock.
Rihanna’s white and sheer Jean Paul Gaultier frock at the Grammys also gets a mention, while Jessie J’s BRIT playsuit also comes in top here.
Emma Watson’s one shoulder lace frock at the BAFTAs gets in too as does Amy Adam’s gold strappy number.

Natalie Portman feels like “a clown” in bold lipstick.
The ‘Black Swan’ actress – who is pregnant with her first child – is slowly agreeing to make-up artists’ requests for her to wear a more dramatic colour on her mouth, but still doesn’t feel entirely comfortable.
She said: “I feel like a clown if I put on strong lipstick, but recently I’ve experimented with reds. Make-up artists have been urging me to try stronger lips, but it still doesn’t feel like me. I’m working on it.”
The brunette beauty also relies on help doing her hair as she claims she doesn’t know how to stop it looking like a “triangle”.
She said: “When you see me, a professional has done my hair – I don’t know how to. As a family, we have very curly ‘Jewish’ hair, when it’s long, it comes out in a triangle.”
Natalie also revealed she developed an interest in perfume from her mother and believes it is important to include scent when “dressing up”.
The Oscar-winning beauty added to Britain’s InStyle magazine: “My mum taught me to spray fragrance and walk into it. She has a sensitive sense of smell, so I’ve grown up with a great awareness.
“A scent that sets you apart makes you feel glamorous and elegant and gives you a different way of walking into a room – it’s part of dressing up.”

We all know what it’s like to have a last-minute outfit crisis (read about my own dress failures here), but few of us have the pressure of the Oscars to contend with.So we felt for poor Anna Kendrick when we heard that she had a wardrobe disaster only a few days before the cermony.
The Up in the Air star, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, revealed that she was forced to find a whole new outfit this week, when her special couture dress failed to live up to expectations. “There was another dress that was being made,” Kendrick said. “The designer will remain nameless… It was not for me. It was blue.”
Had she stuck with the original dress she would have been in good company, with Mariah Carey and Maggie Gyllenhaal among the stars who also chose blue. But as it was, we thought the actress was one of the most memorable attendees, picking upon this season’s nude trend with her beautiful blush-pink chiffon gown. Not too bad for something you threw on at the last minute, Anna…

She may have had an uncharacteristically girlie moment in her short white frock at the BAFTAs, but tonight Kristen Stewart returned to her vampish roots with this dramatic satin number. Earlier this week we guessed that the Twilight saga star might opt for black (see us proved right here), though her recent penchant for mini dresses had us predicting she’d go for an LBD, not this floor-sweeping slice of old-school Hollywood.
We were also pleased to see that the Twilight saga star had put a little more polish into her look this time round (or, to go straight for the jugular, she’d actually washed her hair). And is that a smile we spy?
In the space of one awards season, the actress seems to have grown from sulky teen into a fully-fledged starlet. From Bella Swann to red carpet swan… top marks.

It was a micro-trend at last year’s awards, and this year even more stars are saying ‘I do’ to dresses in white, ivory and sugared-almond shades. Whether it’s a nod to this winter’s unseasonably snowy weather, or a series of not-so-subtle hints to noncommittal boyfriends, bridal looks were all over tonight’s red carpet.
Best actress nominee Sandra Bullock pulled it off like a true leading lady, with exquisite beaded vintage fabric and sweet pink lips, while Up in the Air star Anna Kendrick was a vision in palest pink.
A little less successful, however, was Amanda Seyfried‘s meringue – we can only assume the actress seems to have took reference from her starring role in musical wedding romp Mamma Mia when choosing this Armani Prive gown. The quilted satin fabric saves it from true Princess Barbie territory, but alongside so many chic column gowns and flirty ruffles it still comes off a little like the lady your Granny puts on top of her loo roll.

We’ve been wowed, dismayed, and surprised by the red carpet dresses during this year’s Oscars, and we’ve bought you coverage as it happens.
However there’s always the few (or in an event as big as this, many) that get away. So we’ll be bringing you a range of galleries with a range of the dresses that graced the red carpet, as well as a round up of trends, and of course the best and worst dressed.
First up is a round up of some of the stars and their designer frocks.

We predicted that British newcomer Carey Mulligan would win out in the style stakes tonight, and we’re pleased to say that she’s filling us with patriotic pride.
Sporting the same bleached blonde pixie crop she unveiled at the BAFTAs last month, the star of An Education took to the red carpet in a black strapless frock by her go-to designer, Prada. From a distance the effect was predictably chic, with its sweetheart neckline and full skirt, but on closer inspection Carey’s quirkier side made an appearance, as she revealed that her glittering dress was embellished with tiny metal keys and pairs of scissors. No, honestly. Like an exceptionally well-dressed boy scout, she seems to have arrived in the couture equivalent of a Swiss army knife.
We’re hoping the 24-year-old will scoop the Best Actress statue tonight, but if not perhaps she’ll find another calling as an unofficial seamstress. And if she needs to take down a rival, at least she’s well armed…
