Best actress Marion Cotillard at the Oscars

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

Marion.jpg

Marion Cotillard gave one of those emotional, awestruck Oscar speeches that are sure to be replayed on morning shows and award show recaps for years to come. Especially since it’s even more dramatic with a French accent.

The drama we loved was that of her Gaultier mermaid dress. Not only did it have a fishtail hem, but scale-like embroidery down the entire length.

It looked very nice on her, and was one of the more daring dresses of the evening – which tells you it was a very safe red carpet.

Cotillard won the best actress award for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose.”

Clutches on the Oscar red carpet

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

Handbag lovers know that clutches are like the holy grail of purses, so it’s no wonder they get so much attention on the red carpet at the Oscars. Except for Amy Adams adorable lillipution purse, most were very geometric.

Top to bottom, left to right are Cameron Diaz, Marion Cotillard, Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner. Glitzy glamorous embellishments remained popular.

Jennifer Garner gets it right at the Oscars

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

Jennifer%20Garner.jpg

I love the black Oscar de la Renta dress that Jennifer Garner wore tonight. E! fashion commentator and all around fabulista Kimora Lee thought it was a bit plain, but I loved all the ruffle details at the bottom and her diamonds set it of to perfection. Garner’s latest, “Juno“, is nominated for best picture.

Heidi Klum, Helen Mirren, Anne Hathaway, and Katherine Heigl don red for the Oscars

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

Red was definitely the stand-out color on the red carpet, and the dresses were so different that each of the ladies really stood out as well.

Heidi Klum was one of the first out of the gate in a dramatic Galliano gown. Maybe either the collar or the big train would have been enough, both together seem a little bit much. But Heidi carries it off regally.

Amy Adams, who is performing a song from her movie “Enchanted” tonight, sparkles on the red carpet in her beautiful emerald Proenza Schouler fishtail gown. The train and the mermaid silhouette have both been trends on this red carpet, keep checking back for more!

Designer namecheck – who they’re wearing

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

statuette%20collage.jpg

Ryan Seacrest isn’t nearly as good at asking the stars who they’re wearing as Giulianna was at the SAGs. In fact we’re not sure how he keeps his job at all. But we enjoy Giulianna and Kimora Lee’s fashion commentary. We’ll have our own fashion commentary and pictures of the hottest dresses soon, and continue reading for a rundown on who’s been wearing what!

Stars like Hayden Panettiere, Leighton Meester, and Eliza Dushku raid the Oscars gift suites

By Andrea Thatcher on February 24th, 2008

Oscar%20gift%20suites.jpgClick image to enlarge.

As we wait for the red carpet to heat up and the pictures to roll in, we thought we’d share what some lucky celebs were doing this afternoon. How unfair is it that anyone remotely connected to the entertainment industry (Tara Reid much?) can wander down to the gift suites, and get free stuff in exchange for their picture being taken with said stuff? You don’t have to be nominated for an Oscar, be invited to the Oscars, or work in movies at all. Here’s Hayden Panettiere with some True Religion Jeans, Leighton Meester at Working Wardrobes, and Eliza Dushku at Laundry by Design. That’s the life.

Katie Holmes at the 10th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards

By Andrea Thatcher on February 20th, 2008

Katie%20Holmes.jpg

Katie Holmes was all maternal charm at the 10th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards yesterday. It’s a lovely dress, truly, and flattering enough.

But we’re quite tired of the formal variation of the miu miu (and not the good uppercase kind) no matter how sparkly it is. If Holmes is at the Oscars this Sunday we’re really hoping for more.

Since she’s such a fan of Armani, perhaps she’ll try something off his most recent couture runway? We’re just dying to see some of those gowns on the red carpet.

Oscar nominations revealed, but will the couture headed to L.A. actually be worn?

By Andrea Thatcher on January 22nd, 2008

Oscar%20nominations.jpg

The Oscar nominations are out, and as for fashionistas it seems to be a case of the sophisticate and the ingenue – with Keira Knightley somewhere in the middle.

Cate Blanchett is nominated for best actress in a leading role for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and also for best actress in a supporting role for I’m Not There. This is Blanchett’s fourth nomination, and she won once before in 2005 for her supporting role in The Aviator - as seen above.

Even if the show doesn’t go on, we’ll still have Elton John’s Oscar party

By Andrea Thatcher on January 10th, 2008

Elton%20John.jpg

On Monday we told you that sadly the Golden Globes would not be going ahead due to the ongoing writers’ strike. What if the Oscars are next?! Although we’re sympathetic to the writers’ cause, we couldn’t help but feel a little bit disappointed about the lack of red carpet action. But maybe there will be some stylish action…

Elton John and David Furnish have announced that despite the possible lack of awards ceremony their annual Oscar party and charity event for his Aids Foundation (sponsored by Chophard and VH1) must definitely go on.
