Patricia wants to get her fashion claws into Michelle Obama (left)
Patricia Field, one of the most famous stylists in the world thanks to the magic she weaved over Carrie’s wardrobe in Sex and the City, has admitted that she’s dying to style Michelle Obama.
We think Michelle is the most stylish First Lady since Jackie O, and it seems that Patricia feels the same way. The iconic stylist said: “”Probably at this point I would like to dress Michelle Obama. I think because she’s tall, she’s a classy woman, and I think she dresses fine. But I would still love to get my hands on her. I love the way she presents herself and part of the way she presents herself that I really like a lot is that it’s natural and easy and she’s not trying. I think when she gets dressed up – she could get a little adjustment there. Because she’s so elegant in a way she could be a little more directed in her formal wear – but everyday stuff she’s got it down.”
Watch out Obama, if your wife goes off for a styling session with Patricia Field she might come back covered in animal prints and giant corsages. We’ll love it if that happens, but I’m not so sure if you will. Just be warned..
Patricia is most famous for her work styling Sex and The City
The notoriously fabulous Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field advises aspiring fashionistas that good style doesn’t necessarily equal huge amounts of money.
Field says that anyone can have style on a budget; they just need to find the right style to suit them. “Style is not the equivalent of money. Some people have lots of money and no style – some people have no money and lots of style. Style comes from a different choice – it comes from your philosophy and your job patterns and how you feel. I mean my life is very heavily around people much younger than myself. Young people, they don’t have a lot of money but the young people are the ones with the style. Young people have energy, and old people do not – and that energy translates into interests and getting information – and from all of that you can work out your style.”
The stylist says that the key secret to a stylish wardrobe is having a few classic, staple pieces – the pieces depending on the wearer. She said: “In anyone’s wardrobe there are those key pieces for them that they can’t live without. I could talk about myself, or somebody specific, but in general I would say that the more variation that you offer yourself in your wardrobe – the more combinations you will be able to create because you have more options.”
More variety you say? Well in that case, Patricia, I’ll go and max out my Topshop card right now..
Victoria Beckham “owns her style” according to costume designer Patricia Field.
The ‘Sex and the City’ stylist thinks some people get too serious about fashion but praises Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria for her attitude to clothes and believes she gets it right every time.
She told People.com: “My hint to all is, enjoy it! Don’t be too serious about it. Choose what you like – and don’t get distracted by what’s trendy or what your friends like. Express yourself and you will own it.”
“Victoria Beckham an example of someone who owns her style. Style is like a flag. When we see red, white and blue we think America. When we see Victoria Beckham, we immediately associate her style with her. To repeat . she owns it!”
Patricia has previously compared Victoria to Lady Gaga, saying the pair have a “similar” approach to fashion.
She said: “They’re both very different in style and yet very similar. Lady Gaga is a pop star personified. Like Madonna before her, she has fun with her fashion and it’s all very showy and tongue in cheek.
“In the same way, Victoria’s created her own look that’s very glamorous. She definitely has her own way of putting outfits together that other people try to copy. They’re very different as style icons, but individually both very stylish in their own right.”
Stylist to the stars, Patricia Field, is sticking by Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of the cast on the Sex and the City film sequel (phew!)
Despite reports that she might be quitting due to a row with SJP, Pat has confirmed that she is “absolutely” on board for the next chapter.
“I don’t use the recession as a reference for my creativity, true,” she told Radar. ” I am furious and had a row with Sarah Jessica over whatever? False.”
But that’s not all. In order to prevent leaks, producers have come up with five scripts for the sequel, each with a different plotline.
One version is even said to include Carrie, Big and a baby. Click here to read more sequel goss.
Listen to the reasoning behind Patricia Field’s outlandish choices for Isla Fischer as Rebecca Bloomwood, the central character of the new movie Confessions of a Shopaholic. I can’t imagine you’re on a fashion blog without knowing a bit about the book already, but if you are, there’s also a “From Novel to Screen” clip in the “related videos” you could check out, as well as more clips of Pat Field talking wardrobe.
Patricia Field is everywhere lately, perhaps taking advantage of the “Sex and the City” movie buzz. After all, there’s no better time to convince the general public that they need a piece of Pat’s style for their wardrobes to be complete.
And so … Destination Style New York by Patricia Field for HSN. On September 23 the 50 piece collection will debut on TV and HSN.com. The company will build buzz by premiering the styles during a fashion week event.
After the fabulous pink carpet and premiere of Sex and the City in New York on Tuesday, many of the bold-faced names headed to MoMA for an after party full of cosmos and air kisses.
But Pat Field was apparently over all the press involved with the event.
“I can’t answer another stupid question,” the costume designer told WWD. “It’s bulls–t. Don’t ask me about the latest trend.”
We’re probably showing Shiny’s British roots when we say that she sounded utterly churlish.
“Sex and the City is like a fashion show,” Hudson said. “All the ladies are people that every woman can relate to. They spoke about real things that we all go through.”
The world première of the soon-to-be released Sex and the City movie is destined to be a major fashion event on par with the Oscars. And the stars are fully aware of how huge the fashion has to be. According to the Mirror, the cast of SATC are up in arms over who is going to wear which designer to the film’s début. The paper reports that Sarah Jessica Parker has been “inundated with more offers of designer gear than you can throw a Manolo Blahnik shoe at,” leaving her co-stars green with envy.
Sometime during her Sex and the City costume designer years, Patricial Field’s name became forever linked with Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo in the footwear category. And now you can get her high-fashion, Emmy-award winning, Sarah Jessica Parker-approved style at Payless – who would have predicted? Our bargain pick of the week is her Tempura platform, $40, actually the only pump in her limited edition holiday collection. There’s also a chic boot and a clutch, but we feel the platform is the most Patricia.
I just adore Alexis Bittar! I’m not the only one, am I? Check out his hand-painted, hand-carved gold snake cuff adorned with citrine eyes. It’s so amazing and worth every dollar–in this case $135 and available at Alexis Bittar. He just has such an amazing background…much like an emerging designers fairytale coming out! In 1990, he started his line of lucite jewelry using turn-of-the-century talique glass and shortly after, his line of stainless and lucite furniture was being shown at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC.
