Paris Fashion Week highlights: Nina Ricci
While Balmain went for punk, Nina Ricci went for pink.
Flowing dresses, feathers, ruffles and lace all marched down the catwalk
Feathers, ruffles and lace, coated in pastel colours swirled down the catwalk. However, before we could get sick from all the sugar sweet creations the trends changed. Belted silhouettes, the occasional jarring colour combo and a graphic moment in a black dress and skirt crisscrossed with asymmetric lace did this.
There was also a sporty look incorporating trench coats over shorts and a leather Peter Pan collar jacket.
Paris Fashion Week highlights: Balmain
Punk was the theme Balmain decided to run with for its SS2011 collection.
Skinny jeans with plenty of rips, safety pins and, what looked like DIY graffitied t-shirts marched down the catwalk.
There were roughly cut denim shorts black leather mini-skirts, the occasional corset and white double-breasted jackets, which were made to look sexy by being worn very tight (think about how you wore your shorts and tees when you were 15 and you’ll understand).
We can imagine many of you crafty fashion girls will be trying this look out yourself in the season to come but a word of warning. Balmain’s collection may look like it’s easy to copy but when you look closely you’ll see cuts are sharp, studs and crystals are carefully placed and those graffiti tees thought about.
Paris Fashion Week: Zac Posen
Crystal Renn was one of the models who showed off Zac Posen’s SS2011 collection this morning. Unlike other designers Posen went for bright colours offering almost Spanish hues of red and orange, mixed with black.
Feathers were abundant showing up in shrugs while ostrich feathers flapped up inside black sheer skirts, and pink ostrich feathers came out of hips and cleavage.
Frocks, or should we say gowns, in silk chiffon and ranging in colours from black pale greeny greys also formed a huge part of the show.

Paris Fashion Week highlights: Hakaan
Hands up who was excited about Hakaan’s PFW catwalk collection. I’ve got both mine up for the designer who has made a huge name for himself over the past few years with his sleek ready to wear designs.
Naomi Campbell set the tone for the collection turning up at the front row in a Hakaan SS2011 black leather pleated-skirt dress, which was teamed up with Hakaan black leather shoes that had small fins protruding from the heel.
And there was ALOT of leather on the catwalk in the form of trousers, dresses and skirts. The designs, which looked like a combination of Balenciaga meets Versace also included sleek edged dresses, which finished to the point and bodycon cut out frocks in summer beige. Long skirts and dresses complete with puddle trains also skimmed down the catwalk alongside sheer fabrics.
Colours were muted with blacks and beige forming the main part of the collection.
Paris Fashion Week highlights: Rocha
They say Paris fashio is sleeker to that shown at London Fashion Week, this can be said of Rocha’s PFW ss2011, but as well as sleek the designs were skimpy too.
Models marched down the catwalk in bralets and puffy knickers (don’t get me wrong I like them but I can’t help thinking of huggies pull-ups), as well as some very pretty floral bodys.
As a contrast just below the knee 40s style silk patterned dresses complete with the bag and shoes to match the era came into the collection as well as ulitlity style denim dresses (again from the 40s) and black skirts teamed with blouses.
However, Rocha didn’t just stick to the 40s sending other models down in bright yellow 70s jumpsuits.
We have to admit it’s a very refreshing collection and we’re sure Anna Wintour and Vivienne Westwood who were sitting in the front row agree.
Paris Fashion Week highlights: Fatima Lopes
The designers on day one of Paris Fashion Week may have been up and coming and shadowed by bigger designers who are showing their ranges later on in the week, but there was nothing slow or dull about their collections.
One designer that wowed us was Fatima Lopes who sent her models down the Parisian runway in a range of 50s style off the shoulder tops (think Grease and you’ll know what we’re talking about), Kimono style sheer dresses and structured mini skirts.
Collarless dresses gave another nod to the 50s , while barely there swimming costumed outlined what we can come to expect next summer.
